When Apple announced the iOS5 firmware earlier this year it was found that they integrated many tweaks, concepts and interfaces that originated in the jailbreak community. PhotoAlbums+, our powerful camera roll management tool was one of these tweaks. They used much of our general concept and interface and in some aspects improved upon it, for instance they added the ability to rename and sort albums which is great! But in other aspects they seemed to have dropped the ball and left out some important features that made PhotoAlbums+ great. One such detail is in the way items are added to albums, using native behavior images and videos are simply copied to your custom folders, but leave the original image in the camera roll. With this method of organization, items are bound to build up and clutter the camera roll to the point where you find yourself endlessly scrolling to find any items you know are there, but you haven’t placed into a specific album… I wouldn’t call that organization… Thats an illusion of order!

With PhotoAlbums+ we included the ability to MOVE items into albums. This simple but powerful detail allows true camera roll management. Now all the images from that Halloween party, baby shower, concert and company picnic can be removed from the camera roll and organized in proper albums, leaving the camera roll with only the items that haven’t been put into albums yet. The first time you use PhotoAlbums+ you’ll not only find yourself wondering why Apple didn’t do it this way in the first place, but wondering how you put up with the old way in the first place.

The other amazing advantage to PhotoAlbums+ is the Privacy Tab. Finally you can sort and create albums which only you can access! How many times have you found yourself deleting certain images or closely monitoring when your family and friends use your iDevice because you don’t them to stumble across items that may be private or inappropriate? With PhotoAlbums+ you need not worry! Now you can create private albums that are locked away behind a password protected tab! Toss those images into a private album and forget about it! No one will see them!

The last item to mention is organization of the albums when viewing your device from the PC via a USB connection. Want to copy all those pictures you placed in that party album to your PC? Under native behavior the items all show up in one general folder with no actual order. Just a mirror image of Apples unorganized camera roll… Have fun trying to sort through, find and copy those specific images you have nicely organized in the photos app. Ugh! However with PhotoAlbums+ all your albums will display in the windows file manager exactly as ordered in the application. Now you can just grap and drag the entire album to your desktop! Wow!

For those of you that dont know what PhotoAlbums+ is, its a simple CameraRoll Management Tool.  It allows you easily create custom photo albums so you can sort out all the images/videos from your CameraRoll directly on your device without having to first import them to your computer, organize, then export back to your device via itunes. It can literally save you hours of time and frustration.

One of our new features is the auto-backup manager which was designed to prevent loss of albums when iTunes rebuilds the photo library at inopportune moments. One annoyance that wasn’t easy to reproduce but in the end should finally be resolved.

The next new feature or rather behavior adjustments allow an additional layer of security and piece of mind when it comes to your private albums. One such change is to the multitasking resume feature of the photos app, ie. when you leave the app while viewing an album. If while in a pubic album it will resume as normal, but if you exited while in a private album it will forward you back to the album list.

Next we fixed the issue with some applications such as PhotoGene, Bump, iMovie and other apps that used alternate APIs for mapping the photos Library would somehow loophole access to private albums. Now privacy while in these apps has been restored.
The last takes place while connected to your USB cable while docked to your PC. We have omitted the USB mapping for private albums, meaning that Private albums will no longer show up in the windows file explorer.

While optimizing the privacy for USB mapping we were able to improve the entire system and now eradicate the random pc generated album names when viewing them via USB on the windows file explorer. They will now show up in the file explorer with their correct album names!

Last but not least we also fixed a bug with the PLACES tab which for some caused the app to slowdown drastically and at times crash to springboard.

So there you have it. We will continue to work on ways to make PhotoAlbums+ more intuitive, productive and practical for our current users and our prospective ones as well. Thanks for your support. Available via the Cydia Store for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

PwnTunes is an tweak that allows you to more control over your device and content, allowing you to share and sync music, images, videos & more without the need of iTunes. bugfix 1 – Users of iPhoto that have Events and Faces categories were unhappy to find that after the installation of the initial version that their albums tab now also housed their Events and Faces albums as well turning their album tab into a cluster of albums void of the native filter.
PhotoAlbums+ 2.0 fixes this bug and now all tabs function as they are meant to.

bugfix 2 – fixes a boot cycle bug caused by a conflict with certain MS extensions that were found to somehow attach themselves to the PA+ tweak causing a failed boot cycle.

What is included in the new update is a large list of bugfixes, long awaited Retina Support for the iPhone4 and a couple of cool features and performance improvements.(complete changelog after the break)

So whats new?

• Retina Support: iRealSMS now brings full retina support for iPhone 4 users. Every graphic has been redesigned for the high resolution display. The contact images have also been optimized for the iPhone 4 so every QuickReply, Conversation and such show your pictures the way they are meant to be displayed. While on the topic of Retina support I want to give a shout out to my friend Bryan Minear (Bryanminear.com) @bryanminear whom designed our new iRealSMS icon.
• Faster Loading of Contact Pictures: No lag while scrolling though your conversations anymore, and no more waiting for the list to stop scrolling before the pics will load…. scroll away, the pics will load almost instantly.
• Double Tap Options for QuickReply / QuickSend: Designed for those of us that have many a times accidentally sent a message prematurely, or accidentally closed a message while typing a reply because the keyboard seems to be too close to the Command Buttons on the QuickReply. Designed as a sort of “Confirm to Send,” it requires a double tap of any command(CLOSE VIEW REPLY) before it will be executed. A simple solution to a major annoyance.
• Conversation Recents: Ever needed to view a certain conversation but didnt want to leave your current app? Ever received a QuickReply and forgot what was said previously and wish you could take a quick peek at a recent message? Now you can! With our new Recents feature you can quickly and easily browse the conversation from the contact your texting without launching the iRealSMS application. In QuickSend or QuickReply just simply access the Recents icon in the Camera/Smiley menu or in the QuickReply you can simply Double-Tap the Contact Pic for immediate access.
  
• QuickQueue Support now on SpringBoard: Love the Queue system but wish you could use it in more than just the lockscreen? We did too, and now its possible. The Queue is now available system wide! Easily access all your unread QuickReply messages and view and reply to them in any order you want. Please note that the Queue is ONLY availible in portrait mode. There are 2 activation methods:
  1. Tap the Queue Notification Badge in the upper right corner of the QuickReply
  2. Install ACTIVATOR and setup an activation method/gesture

  

• Privacy Options Added for Queue: 2 options were added for the Queue System.
  1. Queue AutoHide: Same thing as the QuickReply Autohide but in regards to the Queue. This is useful for those that want to utilize the Queue but dont want it to show for either privacy reasons or because you dont want to see it on lockscreen because you have another lockscreen SMS manager such as the LockInfo SMS plugin or Intelliscreen. To unhide you would use your designated Activator method.
  2. Queue Preview: This setting will allow you to disable the message preview. So it will only show the sender name & contact picture.
• Full localization support for SpringBoard: this is useful to those whom werent able to get their QuickReply, QuickSend and Text to Speech to translate properly into their language.Also notable is the fact that as per user request we changed voice service dialog from “you got a new message from…” to read a shorter “new message from…”The rest of the changelog includes a lot of bugfixes to improve performance of the application. to include the following:
• Bugfix: Fixed wrong aspect ratio for contact pics in conversation view (pics appeared stretched to fit the rectangle)
• Bugfix: Fixed crash on Reboot of device when in trial mode (not purchased)
• Bugfix: Fixed serious bug where blacklisted messages where deleted when trying to unblacklist them
• Bugfix: Fixed a bug that could cause crashes in Settings tab when reopening main app from background
• Bugfix: Fixed crash when trying to copy message part in Single SMS View by double or long tapping it
• Bugfix: Fixed main app crash that could happen in conjunction with smiley menu
• Bugfix: Fixed bug where clicking “View” from QuickReply would freeze when lockscreen-passcode active and main app open in background
• Bugfix: Fixed conversation list shortly flashing up when master password activated before password was entered
• Bugfix: Fixed video preview image not always showing in Single SMS View
• Bugfix: Fixed crash when leaving the contact list that comes up from “insert contact” function while the list is still in scrolling motion
