Normally u don't have to recover in recovery mode. When u put the device in dfu mode and do it wrong u r usually going to go into recovery mode instead of dfu mode. If u r trying to put it in dfu mode open iTunes then put it in dfu mode until iTunes tells u the device is in recovery mode. If ure screen is black when this message pops up ure in dfu successfully.
