Note: themes like leopard U/I that put javascript web content directly over the statusbar will prevent statusbar date and memory from showing up.

So I have still been working on SBSettings for 3.0 (and update for 2.x). In addition to the features listed in my previous post I have added:

• You can now have more than 12 toggles. (On the 3.0 OS). When you have > 12 toggles it will let you scroll like categories app or such.
• There is now an option to put the free memory in the statusbar. See:
• You can now select from several options to customize the behaviors of SBSettings:
  • Enable or disable the U/I from lock screen
  • Enable or disable the U/I during calls (for those of you that kept having the U/I activate on your cheek).
  • Enable or disable the date in status bar.
  • Enable or disable the memory free in status bar.
  • Enable or disable numeric battery, wifi, or GSM (phone strength).
• Revamped the U/I on the more – extras screen.
• Internally, I have made the toggles SDK more extensible enabling direct access to system() calls within the toggles. I expect another small flood of new toggles like safari download, samba, or syslog toggles. These tasks were impossibly difficult on 1.x sbsettings and are now trivially simple.

Known Issues – Please READ THIS before you comment:

1) If your respring, SSH, or EDGE doesn’t work, you are one of the unlucky 3100 to get my bad pack. Reboot the iPhone and you should be ok.

2) If you hold wifi for more than 1 second to try to invoke the hold action, springboard will crash. I had debugging stuff in there that I forgot to remove. None of the toggles support invoke hold action yet anyway so there is no need to hold them.

3) If you saw fastnotes, location services, or processes uninstall on the update this is normal. They are now included in the core sbsettings.

4) I already know that there is some misaligned text on 2.0 mobile substrate screen. The font on 3.0 and 2.0 are sized differently by defaults. Will fix in next version.

5) If you are on 3.0 this will not work for you. Do not report that the more app crashes. It’s not a problem with sbsettings. It’s in your jailbreak. To properly make it work on 3.0 beta, you require a private, not yet released kernel patch and to fix your crashing on loading the more app, you need to install the package that includes dirname. (It will be installed on a real 3.0 release build). Look for one of the *-cmds packages like “adv-cmds”, “file-cmds”, “shell-cmds” or just install all 3.

I have finished the SBSettings theme kit and posted it in the guides section here. The guide will explain what each element is that can be themed, where the theme folders are expected to go, and provides some screenshots. It also has a link to the default theme with all the files expected in their proper locations so that you can make your theme mimick this layout.

I have written two articles on this. There is the upgrade guide and also the other post that explains why it occurs.

A quick summary of solutions:

1) If you have Cydia still visible you can install Quickgold and simply launch the hidden apps. You can launch bossprefs, poof, or such and unhide it.

2) You can install SBSettings and unhide any apps that are hidden.

3) You can launch settings app and disable / reenable restrictions which should unhide most of everything. (You will then need to use poof, bossprefs, or sbsettings and rehide what you want hidden).

4) If you cannot install anything because Cydia is hidden, you can use apt-get install quickgold from the SSH prompt

5) In the most drastic case where you also do not have SSH, you can use iphone browser and delete the file located at /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist. Then reboot.

Update (10/28/2008): I updated SBSettings Toggles again to v1.2.1 after working with a small group of folks that were having “enable SSH” issues.  So you guys should update this again if you are still having SSH issues.

Another SBSettings update. v0.92 fixes many bugs that you all have reported. Make sure you also accept the sbsettings toggles update, too or you won’t benefit from the new SSH toggle code!

Here is the changelog:

• Disabled the app while in call. It was too easy to brush against your face and inadvertantly call up the GUI. Then again bump a toggle with your face such as EDGE or 3G and kill your call.
• Fixed security hole by disabling SBSettings when device is locked with a passcode on the lockscreen. SBSettings will still load when on lock screen but no passcode is entered.
• Added reboot / power to the power button by massive request. (I still see no use for reboot but you guys win).
• Added “Lock” to the power menu! (OK this is exciting for me because I tried to do this in BossPrefs and never found a way).
• Reworked SSH toggle. It’s an app so if another app is running it wouldn’t work but the toggle would turn colors. This has been modified to kill the top running app if it is running so it works now. You guys have no idea how problematic SSH toggle is in this. It requires root permissions but springboard runs as mobile.
• The “more” button launches an app. If another app is running, this wouldnt be able to launch. Now if another app is running, it shows a red “no use” circle indicating that you cannot launch the more app.

In the near future I will look into:

1) VPN Toggle (although not sure how to test this since I have no VPN).
2) Plugin interface
3) Theme interface.

There was a permissions bug in packaging the original toggle pack that prevented the EDGE toggle from working.  I have updated the toggle pack and am posting the update. Please update the toggle pack, and if Cydia doesn’t force you to, make sure you respring after. Remember, the E will show up whether  or not EDGE is enabled. The only valid test is trying to load a web page in safari.

I tested the updated EDGE toggle while in safari using this procedure:

1) Load safari
2) swipe and pull up SBSettings
3) Disable EDGE, WIFI
4) Close SB Settings try to load a web page.
5) Safari reports error: “Cannot Open Page” and not connected to internet.
6) Swipe and pull up SBSettings
7) After the E comes back, refresh the web page that previously errored.
8) Watch the data start loading.

It seems to be working well for me.

Note: as a side-effect of the update you may need to reset which toggles show up in the SBSettings app via the “more” gui. Sorry.

Note: Fixed a bug in libhide that made it so you couldnt unhide hidden apps. Make sure you install the libhide update that gets pushed down in cydia updates.

If you get a dependency error in Cydia on sbsettingtoggles, just uninstall sbsettings, uninstall sbsettingtoggles, and reinstall SBSettings from scratch and it should work. I’m not sure what is causing this error, but I redid the sbsettings package from the 0.90 beta because I didn’t like the way it would upgrade (thought it may be problematic).

If you see no toggles at all, somehow the SBSettingToggles package did not get installed. Like above, uninstall sbsettings, sbsettingtoggles. And then reinstall sbsettings.

Coming soon:

* Ability to make your own toggles like BossPrefs.
* Minor fixes for some of the known issues (see changelog link).
* Much more beefed up “more” app.

Known issues:

* The icons are refreshed only on respring. It is possible for them to get out of sync. This is by design because it is a significant performance drain to constantly refresh these things. But you may have to occasionally press the refresh button if you believe the states are incorrect.
* The SSH toggle is very slow after the iPhone has sat idle for a bit. It does work just be patient.
* The “add your own toggle” is not yet designed. Be patient.
* There are times where the iPhone is very low on memory and bringing up the window is not very helpful. Example is maps app while its locating you or some cases inside safari.
* The SSH and “more” button are implemented by launching apps. Therefore, they will only work if you have no other app running and are at the main springboard screen.
* Respring option while locked brings you to springboard bypassing your passcode.

UPDATE: Bugs fixed so far due to your beta test reports:
1) Renamed Wifi, Edge, and 3g to Wi-Fi, EDGE, and 3G
2) Renamed “Extras” menu from “SBSettings” to “Extras”
3) Fixed all toggles to detect iPod touch in the isCapable function to avoid bluetooth, airplane, EDGE showing up on a touch.

Ipodtouchmaster and I believe we are ready for the SBSettings beta test. Here are some final screenshots of the v0.90 which we are sending out to you for beta tests:

I am posting SBSettings v0.90b (beta) here on the site for beta testing. The version that will go into Cydia will be a one click install. But dpkg does not account for dependencies. Therefore, there are going to be some steps to take.

1) Load cydia and install libhide. Or, using ssh run: apt-get install libhide.
2) Make sure you have mobile substrate installed. If not, apt-get install mobilesubstrate (or just install winterboard)
3) Install sbsettings_toggles_pack1_1.10 first. Get the deb and copy to /tmp on iPhone. To install it run “dpkg -i sbsettings_toggle_pack1_1.0.deb”. (Note: you may need to right click and “save as” to save the deb. Some of the round-robin servers mime types aren’t set so it may try to show in the browser).
4) Finally, get the sbsettings_0.90b.deb, copy to /tmp on iPhone and run “dpkg -i sbsettings_0.90b.deb”.
5) Respring using bigboss respring app (need it to rebuild the cache properly as killall SpringBoard won’t do it). If you do not use the proper respring, you will nto be able to launch the settings app using the ‘more’ button the SBSettings app. But you could just hit the respring there instead and it will correct the problem.

Note, these steps are for advanced users and early adopters. If you want, wait a day or two and it will be in Cydia.

Instructions for use:

- Slide across statusbar to show the window. (Tap once with two fingers seems to work also) Tap the close button to dismiss the window.

- The big buttons are toggles. Red is “OFF” Green is “ON”.

- The “more” button brings up the settings app which lets you configure which settings you want available, hide icons, and other bossprefs like things.

- The “refresh” button will refresh the state of the icons in case it gets out of sync.

Known issues:

But you may have to occasionally press the refresh button if you believe the states are incorrect. One example is toggling airplane mode on, and the WIFI button stays lit green. Here are a couple screenshots:

The toggles drop down when you swipe along the status bar. It is very fast and can be used while in any app without exiting the app. Suppose you are in Safari but realize your 3g is not yet enabled. Simple! Just swipe the statusbar and tap 3g and resume in safari where you left off. No need to exit safari and load settings or bossprefs.

Like bossprefs, this will have an addon module so you can create your own addons and also an application component that will be launched with the little settings button (see top right of the screenshots) to let you do things like hide icons and all the other cool things BossPrefs currently does. We are also planning to add some other cool features.

We will be offering beta testing of this app from this site soon so keep on the look out.
