New Skype app having problems on Jailbroken phones?

Update (April 2, 2009 by BigBoss) I just pushed an update to Crash-X’s VoIPover3G v1.0.2 that will enable skype in the plist for you. No need for editing plist files just update the VoIPover3G app.

-
Update (April 1, 2009 by BigBoss and ranova): Saurik just released mobilesubstrate 0.9.2805-1. This version fixes the problem entirely allowing for mobilesubstrate addons to work with Skype app. You can now use Skype app with VoIPover3G! -
Quick Tip: The voipover3g string for Skype is: com.skype.skype -All lowercase. You must add it in the VoIPover3G.plist located in /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries/
Full Guide to add Skype to voipover3g

Latest clippy and keyboard custom sounds now also seem to work with Skype using the latest Mobile Substrate update. If you are still experiencing crashes when you open up the keyboard, disable these two components.

If you are still experiencing crashes with the new Mobile Substrate and have disabled clippy and\or custom keyboard sounds, make sure to check other mobile substrate extensions or apps that run in the background and disable them. They may be still conflicting with how Skype runs. This is not a Mobile Substrate problem, but a problem with the extension or app itself and the author of it will have to update it. I had no problems using Clippy, Cydelete, Cyntact, Five Icon Dock, QuickGold, SBSettings, VoIPover3G, and Winterboard as mobile substrate extensions.

Known extensions or apps that cause skype to crash: mcoolphone, mobilelog, AdvLock, Hood, and Intelliscreen (it may work if you mess around with the performance settings in Intelliscreen).
You can check what mobileSubstrates extensions you have running and installed by looking in the folder:
/Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries/

If you use Intelliscreen, From User Daron:

Eventually, I discovered that Skype would launch if I *disabled* IntelliScreen. I then tried to disable some of the IntelliScreen Performance extensions (Backgrounder, FileSchemaMobileSafari, MailToAttachmentMessageUI, PrefHooker-iKeyEx, SBHooker-iKeyEx, SBSettings, Veency, VoIPover3G, WinterBoard) and discovered that the culprit was Veency.

Thank you Saurik and everyone else that posted comments that helped us figure out the underlying problems.

Update (March 31st, 2009): Saurik has released a new mobile substrate and the issue is fixed. No need for intelliscreen or any other hacks. Just update mobile substrate from cydia. Update to v0.9.2803-1 (or newer) of mobile substrate.

To fix the Skype crash, all mobilesubstrate based hacks are disabled on the Skype app. This means you cannot use voipover3g or backgrounder with Skype app. Do not ask how to do it or point out that it doesnt work. The developer of mobile substrate has already stated that it will not work.

The highly anticipated app for the iPhone has just been released in the US:
Skype in the AppStore.

Now the bad news. It seems that all jailbroken phones do not play well with the Skype app. I had problems getting it to work at all, the app would crash when you try to use the keyboard to login to the app. I later found out, through trial and error, the culprit for keyboard crashing is Custom Winterboard Keyboard Click Sounds and Clippy. Getting rid of the keyboard custom clicks (tock.aiff) seems to work with regular themes. Using SBSettings Clippy toggle to switch it off seemed to do the trick also.

That problem, while small and fixable, is not the biggest problem. Skype seems to freeze within 30-50 seconds while in the app – no matter what you do (calling, idling, chatting, etc). I went into safe mode using SBSettings and tried out Skype – to my surprise, everything worked perfectly – I used it to talk to my friend for about 20-30 minutes. I decided to do a little bit more troubleshooting – deleting mobile substrates one by one to see if it helped or not, and then deleting them all. Nothing seemed to work, the app would still crash within one minute.

I decided to run SysInfoPro and compare running processes (non-mobile substrate) between safe mode and regular mode. They both had the exact processes running at the same time.

Although I didn’t delve much deeper into the problem (could have tried using Top and system logs), I have come to a conclusion that Skype crashes ONLY on jailbroken iPhones. I had a couple friends try it on their newly restored iPhones, and they worked flawlessly. Other people from multiple forums have also said it crashes non-stop for them (their iPhones also jailbroken):

“I managed to download skype and tested myself. It is buggy and all the symptoms the same as described by ranova. I have tried it on a 1G phone newly updated to 2.2.1 jailbroken. The only apps I have installed is sbsettings, ierase, nimbuzz, and skype. It still crashes after 30sec or so. It has got to be the phone that is jailbroken. I have nothing on my phone other than what you get after you jailbreak.” – duceduc

“2.2.1 jailbroken 3g here. It crashes after 30 – 60 seconds.” – jgsx

“Confirmed – Crashes like every minute.” – Zazox

Let’s hope this isn’t an attempt from Apple or Skype to cause apps to crash only on jailbroken phones (to deter the use of voipover3g). [end conspiracy theories]
Update: Saurik has just updated regarding reasons behind the crashes:

“Skype seems to be using some kind of /awesome/ DRM that involves them having an entire replacement binary somehow inside of it: the one on disk doesn’t link against /anything/ ;P. Whatever its doing, though, involves stressing dyld in some weird way.

Interestingly enough, its not anything MobileSubstrate does to the code: its just it existing in the process before it loads its replacement. (Which is extra weird, as the new MobileSubstrate links against almost nothing: just CoreFoundation.)”

So what we know so far:

  • If Skype crashes when trying to input text: Disable both clippy (Use SBSettings toggle) and any custom Winterboard sounds relating to the keyboard tick (tock.aiff).
  • If Skype crashes within 1 minute of having the app open: Update your Mobile substrate via Cydia. The latest version (April 1st, 2009) allows mobile substrate to play nicely with Skype. Thanks Saurik!

Temporary fix that allows mobile substrates extensions (voipover3g, backgrounder, winterboard) to run, from Autotrade at Engadget:

“For people having crashes (especially the 1 minute thing) use this FIX: I had to enable in Intelliscreen, Performance, App Boost ON and select the apps below (in my case I set Backgrounder and VoipOver3G both to ON). That fixed it, no more crashes at all, tested this on 2 iPhones.”

Well there you have it, Skype on the iPhone is amazing – sound quality sounds better than regular cell calls. I briefly tested it on T-mobile’s EDGE network (using voipover3g) and for the 30 seconds that it lasted, there was no noticable lag and quality was great! I look forward in using Skype as a regular VoIP app. Thanks for all the comments and thank you saurik for looking into this.

  1. spotman Says:

on my 2g iphone, it was crashing after about a minute, but once i completely uninstalled mobile substrate, it is fine. it is still jailbroken, but mobile substrate is the culprit. this is probably something to do with how skype communicates with springboard

  2. ranova Says:

So we need a mobile substrate update. No way I’m living without it :)

  3. Burke Says:

3G|2.2 FW|jailbroken|no strange winterboard or custom GUI. Just QIK etc. With the exception of the modinstallation file..

Tried to fully reboot the phone. Still no go. Just crashes after messing with it for a few.

  4. Floyd Says:

Irritating, played nice, installed mobile substrate to install voipover3g and then it started crashing.

Is there no easy uninstaller for mobile substrate in Cydia?

  5. Dynaxfl Says:

From Autotrade’s post @ engadget…. his solution works perfectly for me on my iphone 3G jailbraked phone.

For people having crashes (especially the 1 minute thing) use this FIX: I had to enable in Intelliscreen, Performance, App Boost ON and select the apps below (in my case I set Backgrounder and VoipOver3G both to ON). That fixed it, no more crashes at all, tested this on 2 iPhones.

Hint: you can use VoipOver3G from Cydia and have Skype work on 3G (calls)
You install it and then go to /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries , edit VoIPover3G.plist and add “com.skype.skype” to the list.

    Good luck!

  6. 987456321 Says:

I found that on engadget posted by autotrade; it works..

  7. Jay Freeman (saurik) Says:

First off, can we verify that this is a problem even if no extensions are installed? As in: is this really a bug in MobileSubstrate, or a bug in something that uses MobileSubstrate? Also, autotrade’s fix mentions IntelliScreen. Are the effected users using IntelliScreen?

  8. ranova Says:

augh, I dont want to reinstall intelliscreen – that app really slowed down my phone + ate the battery. Thanks for the tip though, Ill edit it in

  9. Jay Freeman (saurik) Says:

Ok, for the record, I’m actively “on the case”, and have easily replicated the problem, so this should hopefully be understood in the near future.

  10. ranova Says:

    thanks saurik!

  11. Floyd Says:

I am not using Intelliscreen, basically I jailbroke to unlock, so bare minimum of haxies installed.

  12. Voodoo3 Says:

Crashing like clockwork for me.. Never had intelliscreen installed ever, and never will.

  13. ranova Says:

I uninstalled all mobile substrate extensions (Clippy, Winterboard, Voipover3g, 5 icon dock, Notifier, CyDelete, Cyntact, and Quickgold) but left Mobile Substrate installed – it still crashed. I just reinstalled all of those MS extensions, afterwords, thinking it was something else. The first user to comment to this post stated that removing mobile substrate completely worked for him – I cannot confirm or deny this at this time due to lack of time.

  14. ranova Says:

I am not using intelliscreen, also many users have stated that Skype is crashing on freshly jailbroken phones – but with winterboard or another Mobile substrate extension (sbsettings) installed.

  15. zachf Says:

I’ve never had Winterboard Keyboard Click Sounds, Clippy, or Intelliscreen installed, and yet Skype was unusable crash prone on my jailbroken iPhone 3G. I used SBSettings to switch to Safe Mode and now Skype runs just fine.

I’m guessing a real fix will require a change to Mobile Substrate. The cynic in me wonders whether the Skype app is actually refusing to run when it detects the presence of ‘Mobile Substrate’ (since it can be used to trick the app into running over a cell data network rather than wifi), but maybe I’m just being paranoid.

In case it’s of use to anyone else, I’ve posted to my blog (linked to my name on this comment) the steps required to use SBSettings to enable Safe Mode, in pictures and text.

  16. dew825 Says:

Nope no intelliscreen ever installed, happening on both my hacked iPhones :(

  17. ranova Says:

    linked, thanks for the guide

  18. ghendar Says:

    Saurik,

I was experiencing the problem without Intelliscreen installed.. in fact, I’ve never had it installed before. I installed it and followed the fix and it now works. Odd.

Hope this helps narrow it down.

  19. dew825 Says:

i followed the fix without editing the plist and still didn’t work.

  20. ghendar Says:

I doubt Skype would bother to do such a thing like that, they _WANT_ people to use their service. They only disallow 3g calls because ATT and Apple say that they have to.

  21. ghendar Says:

One last tidbit, if VoipOver3G is not set to ON in intelliscreen, 3g calls don’t work, but if it is you can make a call… sadly, even with a strong 3g signal here, my voice is almost impossible to make out it’s so choppy. Yet over wireless it’s great.

  22. ranova Says:

Thats bizarre, out of the 30 seconds I tested over EDGE, the person I called said I sounded perfect and no noticable lag. Maybe reception luck

  23. ghendar Says:

    Saurik,

just installed your Mobile Substrate update and tested it. THANK YOU!!! All fixed =D

    All hail the mighty Saurik!!

  24. ghendar Says:

FYI the udpdate killed my “Stacks”, so it might have other side effects as well. *sigh*

  25. Josh Says:

I installed the update of mobile substrate.. but now my “5-icon dashboard” and “5 column springboard” hacks don’t work.

  26. Jay Freeman (saurik) Says:

Well, I actually screwed up the first release of that: it didn’t load Five Icon Dock :(. I fixed it in 0.9.2804-1, which just got released. I recommend upgrading.

This doesn’t really /fix/ the problem. I mean, it does, but it doesn’t leave MobileSubstrate working with Skype, it just disables it when Skype is running.

Skype seems to be using some kind of /awesome/ DRM that involves them having an entire replacement binary somehow inside of it: the one on disk doesn’t link against /anything/ ;P. Whatever its doing, though, involves stressing dyld in some weird way.

Interestingly enough, its not anything MobileSubstrate does to the code: its just it existing in the process before it loads its replacement. (Which is extra weird, as the new MobileSubstrate links against almost nothing: just CoreFoundation.)

I’m actually quite lucky that I’m apparently able to get the bundle identifier of the program (to see if its Skype and bail) before damaging anything: even just going on long enough to start listing the dylibs to load causes it to die.

I’m going to keep looking at it though.

  27. Sam Says:

After installed the new Mobile Substrate update, the Skype works well, but the VoIPOver3G doesn’t work with Skype now.

  28. Jay Freeman (saurik) Says:

    The 0.9.2803-1 or 0.9.2804-1 update?

  29. Jay Freeman (saurik) Says:

Yeah, I entirely disable MobileSubstrate from working with Skype. Are you saying that the VoIPOver3G thing worked, but only for the first 30 seconds? If so, that makes me feel better. I thought someone had it running /stable/ with that extension. I am not certain yet how to load things into this program in a stable manner, but will keep looking into it.

  30. Corey Says:

hey saurik just downloaded the new mobile substrate and am using skype perfectly with voipover3g on 3g network making calls thank you so much you are the man

  31. Sam Says:

NO, the VoIPOver3G doesn’t work with Skype after the MobileSubstrate upgraded.

But Skype can work perfectly in WiFi environment now.

However, thanks for the great job!

  32. Josh Says:

does the new mobile substrate break other extensions like 5 icon dock? :( none of my plugins are actually working except for voipover3g with Truphone.

I use 5 icon dock, 5 icon springboard, and notifier

  33. Milad Says:

    Jay,

With latest update of the substrate, VoipOver3G does not work at all. I had not tested whether it did before you came out with the update.

  34. Milad Says:

I did of course add the “com.skype.skype” to the corresponding plist. no change whatsoever.

  35. Jay Freeman (saurik) Says:

This tells me you haven’t upgraded to 0.9.2804-1, like I said in all the other postings about this subject ;P. Upgrade to 0.9.2804-1.

  36. Thomas Says:

I have also added the “com.skype.skype” string, but it does not work…

    Sombody know why?

  37. Jay Freeman (saurik) Says:

Correct, as I have indicated in the other posts here, I have deactivated MobileSubstrate in Skype temporarily. The crash that occurs 40 seconds in seems more important than being able to make 40 second long calls using 3G ;P.

  38. Jay Freeman (saurik) Says:

As I said, MobileSubstrate has been disabled in Skype as it makes Skype so unstable you can’t make a call for longer than 40 seconds.

  39. Jay Freeman (saurik) Says:

How did you do that?!? The new MobileSubstrate doesn’t work in Skype (it just lays down and turns off).

  40. Plato Says:

how you get voipover3g works with the new mobile substrate? I cannot get it done. Pls share. Thx

  41. Milad Says:

Do you think there will be a work around for this Jay?

  42. Corey Says:

all i did was download the new update there were two i think one with 3 at the end and one with 4 i have the 4. i put the string in bought 2.95 a month skype and everything works on edge on 3g

  43. Jay Freeman (saurik) Says:

Yes, but I don’t know what it is yet ;P.

  44. Josh Says:

mmm.. I swear 30 minutes ago I didn’t have that update on cydia :)
    thanks! i’m installing now

  45. Sami Says:

Also did an upgrade of the mobilesubrate and now it works with voipover3g even though i didn’t add the com.skype.skype.

  46. Sami Says:

Sorry, had to add the com.skye.skype. But it didn’t work.

  47. Julien Collot Says:

Just for info : Skype crashes on start if you enable Backgrounder to be always active for it…

  48. rAsk Says:

I have updated the mobilesubrate and reinstalled voipover3g, overwrote it with my edited plist (that worked this morning) and nothing. Think we’ll just have to wait for another update

  49. Hussam Says:

    Hi All,
Please help. Installed Skype, working fine but can not connect over 3G althought I have added “com.skype.skype” to the list.on /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries VoIPover3G.plist and made sure that its all lowercase. Fring is working but skype is not
    Can anybody please help???

  50. Julien Collot Says:

rAsk, Hussam… please just read like everyone else.

It has been disabled voluntarily for stability reasons. Just wait until Saurik investigates, however long that may take, and maybe he’ll come up with a solution…

  51. Harun Butt Says:

    Hi,

I’ve upgraded MobileSubstrate to 0.9.2804-1 and now instead of crashing after a minute, Skype crashes straight away on the splash screen.

    Any tips?

    Thanks in advance.

  52. Harun Butt Says:

Apologies, I’m a complete idiot and had Backgrounder enabled. *facepalm*

  53. Dave Says:

I can confirm that the fix mentioned in post 5 (enabling performance boost in intelliscreen, and turning on VoIPover3G) allows me to make Skype calls over 3g using the latest update of MobileSubstrate. It hasn’t crashed on me yet, although admittedly none of my calls have been longer than a minute. Seems stable.

    Thanks for this.

  54. Dave Says:

This worked for me using latest MobileSubstrate update. No crashes, and calls over Edge (GPRS)/3G.

    Cheers.

  55. Julien Collot Says:

I just installed Intelliscreen just to test what Dave reported, and can confirm I was able to make a 2 minute call over EDGE (I have a 2G iPhone), no quality issues whatsoever !

  56. pablo Says:

I just downloaded and installed the latest MobileSubstrate and it now works fine!!!!! before skype would quit on launch always.

  57. onders Says:

works sweet now thank you for the fix top man

  58. Alain Says:

I just downloaded and installed the latest MobileSubstrate and it still quits on launch. Any thoughts? Thanks.

  59. ninja Says:

Could it also be related to Skype hogging all the remaining memory?

I seemed to notice, that apps start usually quiting (ie. Safari, Categories, etc) when the remaining RAM goes below 15Mb…

I installed intelliScreen, used the performance/app boost fix and it seemed to give me a bit more ram to play with, which took care of the app crashing on load.

I’m still crashing 40 seconds in a call, and the memory at that point is around 15-14Mb.

Not sure whether this is anything relevant, but might be worth looking into.

  60. bryan Says:

I just install intelliscreen and boost performance and it worked over 3g and even with backgrounder received a call

  61. TazGtz Says:

    My 2cts worth:

Updated Mobile Substrate as suggested by Saurik.

In Intelliscreen, under Performance, left App Launch Boost “on”. Then I turned all extensions to “off”. By turning them on one by one I found that Live Clock when turned “on” seems to make Skype crash.

Hope this helps some of you out there

  62. derm Says:

v0.9.2804-1 has Skype working fine for me on Wi-Fi. Thanks for the quick fix. Amazing.

  63. billchase2 Says:

Works great after the update. Thanks!

  64. Plato Says:

confirmed post 36 is work! thx man.

  65. Tidbitdisappointed Says:

Sure hope someone smarter than I finds a work-around … backgrounder and voipover3g + no crashes would be amazing.

  66. Tidbitdisappointed Says:

If you place a call with WiFi enabled and then, mid-call, disable WiFi via springboard, the call continues fine … food for thought.

  67. Dave Says:

Try intelliscreen suggestion (if you have it, or can acquire it).

  68. Anonymous Says:

Any on know if you do the mobile substrate update then edit the plist will skype work with out crashing?

    Install VoiPover3G (Cydia)
    SSH iPhone “/Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries/VoIPover3G.plist”
    edit *plist and add “com.skype.skype”,

  69. hansoloo Says:

where do you guys see “Performance” in IntelliScreen? When I download it, in the settings, I can only see Dispaly Settings, Content Configuration and 3 other groups. But no “Performance”

  70. choi Says:

I also confirmed post 36 works! thx a LOT!

  71. ranova Says:

People that use the intelliscreen based hack seem to have voipover3g working and skype being stable. What does intelliscreen do exactly that seems to have bypassed all this new DRM?

  72. bryan Says:

@hansoloo in intelliScreen you should see “Performance” in the 3rd box (just underneath the “content configuration” box. Tap on Performance and enable App launch Boost. Enable as well for backgrounder and VoiPover 3G. Should work fine.

  73. bryan Says:

@ranova I guess it might be the fact that intelliScreen boost the memory for Skype, VoipOver3G and backgrounder. I’m just guessing. I’m sure Saurik will find a more stable solution soon. But if you want for the moment to run Skype on 3G just do the following with intelliscreen.

  74. spotman Says:

The tips in post #36 w/ intelliscreen seem to prevent skype from crashing, and work with backgrounder. However, in this mode, skype doesnt appear to update its badge icon.

  75. Brian Says:

I’ve duplicated this on several long calls.

  76. bryan Says:

This is temporary. Do this if you really cannot wait and need to use Skype on 3G. Hopefully someone will come up with a solution soon.

  77. Sam Says:

SKYPE IS FIXED, JUST UPDATE MOBILE SUBSTRATE IN CYDIA.

  78. mbhullar Says:

I am also confirming that with the latest version of mobile substrate and turning “on” App Launch Boost in Intelliscreen and selecting VoIPover3G I am able to make calls over 3g with no crashes. When I turn off the App Lauch boot I get the standard message that calls cannot be made due to carrier restrictions.

    I DID not add “com.skype.skype” to the list.on /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries

  79. shunsky Says:

I installed Skype.app to my jailbroken/iPhone 3G 2.2, and crashed when I tried to type my account & password as others reported.

So I just updated MobileSubstrate as mentioned above, then Skype works fine on WiFi network. I will test it whether I can use it on either EDGE or 3G network later…

    —————————————————————
installed items on my iPhone 3G 2.2 mentioned above: MobileSubstrate, Clippy, VoipOver3G

Not installed items from above: Intelliscreen, Backgrounder, Custom Winterboard Keyboard Click Sounds

Thanks for BigBoss, Saurik and rest of genius developers!

hi folks some1 help me plz,
the skype app is crashing big time,,cant even use it ..wht the hec is that,,,
do somethng good that would work okes,,
    pls

  81. Tee Says:

I did the intelliscreen trick with the update & it worked like a charm. By the way i’m GPRS lol that’s all I get in the wilderness (India). Called my girlfriend in Los Angeles on her non jailbreak phone. It was the best sound quality by far. Have tried fring & truphone spotty at best.

  82. djassa1 Says:

I don’t want to install Intelliscreen. Briicked an Iphone with…How can we downgrade MobileSubstrate, even if it’s crashing? 3G is the most important feature for me.
Sorry, but disabling Skype in MobileSubstrate is no considered as fix for me.

  83. pip Says:

new intelliscreen will not work. the settings are gone for performance. unless im missing something

  84. creatino Says:

Confirm: Intelliscreen fix from post 36 and Mobile Substrate update allows Skype to run fine under Backgrounder on iPod Touch 2G.

Saurik, you’d *better* find a complete fix before my 10-day Intelliscreen trial license runs out ;-)

With your track record, who’s worried? Legends, all of you!

  85. Hussam Says:

    Hi All,
Can anybody now ask the $1000,000 question.
How to get the earlier version of Mobile Substrate? I do not care if skype craches, VOIPover3G is more important.
    Pls help

  86. MaxPower Says:

At this point I could care less about getting skype to work properly…

I want those numerous blank app icons that have appeared on every page to go away. I’ve tried to delete them both in and out of safe mode, but they always appear upon respring.

    Help!

  87. bryan Says:

Wow that’s pretty cheeky what they did with the new version of intelliscreen. Cannot confirm it as I don’t want to erase my working version. Can someone from #intelliScreen tell us why? @Hussam the new mobile substrate is ok for now. Just follow what I said in post 36 and skype WILL WORK with VoipOver3G. But this is temporary. Like I mentioned earlier only if you really need it right now and cannot wait for a better fix. Can anybody comment more on the new intelliScreen? Anyone noticed they removed the performance panel?

  88. bryan Says:

@MaxPower can you be more clear? What did you do? Haven’t heard of this issue at all

  89. Brodie Beta Says:

I had major problems with Skype app. Froze on sign-in every time. I had to completely remove clippy to get Skype working on my JB.

  90. Ruben Says:

its definitly wierd – the fix in post 5 works for me exactly the other way round – only when disabling the boost I get skype to work

    Ruben

  91. Hussam Says:

    Dear Bryan,
thnx for the reply. I already have intelliscreen installed and it is a registered version. But I do not understand what is boost performance that u refer to in post 36. Can you help?

  92. ghendar Says:

Looks like you put two out close together and I only got the first. I have 0.9.2804-1 now and it’s fine. thanks

  93. Spencer Says:

Have 1st gen jailbroken and unlocked iphone. upgraded the mobile substrate to the only version available which was 0.9.2804-1 and then downloaded skype. Skype always works the first time. i can chat but have not yet tried to make a phone call. after i close it and reopen it, it opens then freezes instantly. tried it with the intelliscreen with no luck.

  94. bryan Says:

If you launch intelliScreen scroll down and you should see performance. But then some people mentioned the new version doesn’t have it. I cannot confirm this. When did you download your intelliScreen?

  95. Xilineace Says:

I am getting a “No Network Connection Please check your network settings and try again” when I try to connect over wifi. all my other apps work. Any ideas?

  96. Hussam Says:

Can somebody pls explain to me post 5 or post 36 as to what is boost performance and App Boost?? where to find them?

  97. Max Says:

I updated MobileSubstrate to the newest version, and Skype doesn’t crash, but it lags *so* much. After opening the app and signing in, if I tap any of the tabs on the bottom, it takes like 45-60 seconds to open the tab. If I scroll through contacts, it takes like 20 seconds to respond (I have like 10 contacts in Skype). I just respringing to free some memory, but the same thing happened second time around. Any idea on what I could do to fix this?

  98. bryan Says:

For me post 36 worked that’s why I shared it and it seems to work for many. But it’s only a temporary fix. Upgrade your cydia mainly your mobile substrate. Then if you have clippy get into your preferences and disable it. Launch skype and you should now be able to enter your details and login into skype. You can enable your clippy and skype will work fine over wifi. If you want to use it over 3G install VoipOver3G and install intelliScreen over cydia ( apparently there is a new version without the performance panel which you need to make this work). Get into intelliScreen and get to the performance tab ( hopefully you’ll have it) and enable app boost and enable it for VoipOver3G and backgrounder ( if you have it) . Should work fine now over 3G, wifi and in background. I’ll say it again this is temporary

  99. Monica Says:

how the heck do you buy skype credits or subscription ? every time i try, it leads me to a taiwan website that i can’t read. if i click on the english tab at the bottom of the page, it brings me elsewhere where it doesn’t sell anything ?!? WTF ?

any one else come across this ?

  100. bryan Says:

Where do you live? Where did you download your skype from? It should bring you to the skype website where you can buy credit. I would recomend to re download skype

  101. jsr3012 Says:

    removed updated mobile substrate
after intelliscreen installed and performance settings switched on
now none of the iphone apps will stay open!
tried removing some apps no change
tried adding some apps no change
    tried sync no change
tried switch off and on, no change
    Perhaps intelliscreen is culprit?
How do I remove intelliscreen when cydia no longer works?

  102. Hussam Says:

Thnx for the help Bryan but I do not have the performance tab althougvh am sure I have intelliscreen 2.32 which is prior to new update 2.49. Whats funny now is that intelliscreen is installed but cannot find intelliscreen icon. I do not know what I did but suddenly cant find it

  103. bryan Says:

I’m really sorry I cannot help you more on this but I’m definitly reunning intelliScreen 2.32 and have performance tab. I’ll probably tell the silliest thing but have you try to turn it of and on again. That’s the onlything I can suggest for now! ;)

  104. Monica Says:

    I’m in Canada

I downloaded and installed the Skype v1.0.1.ipa on my iphone

when I try to purchase credits or subscription from the pc, I get sent to a taiwanese website for skype…

how do I buy a subscription to try this out ? thanks

  105. jsr3012 Says:

    that includes all apple apps
    all crash

  106. bryan Says:

You should install the latest mobile substrate! Not remove it!

  107. bryan Says:

Sorry I’m bloggin o. My iPhone now and clippy suck with URL so cannot paste the link but you should only buy skype credit from skype website. I wouldn’t trust entering my card details on some weird website that not skype official one. Have you tried from your phone as well?

  108. sepp Says:

    http://www.skype.com/intl/en/allfeatures/subscriptions/

..or change your location in the footer if the site you end up

  109. Hussam Says:

thnx bryan for your help, peace man

  110. bryan Says:

Dude no one mentioned to remove mobile substrate. It’s update it you should had done.

  111. ktg Says:

I can’t even download Skype in the app store where I am located. Where else but Canada could this happen! Only on the Rogers and Fido network. SHould boycott them soon if they are the ones preventing Apple to make this app available.
Any clue how I can get this app into my phone from the US app store?

  112. Max Says:

I just tried removing Skype and reinstalling it and now it won’t even get to the sign in screen without crashing. This sucks.

  113. Max Says:

Sorry I replied to the wrong comment.

  114. Max Says:

I just tried removing Skype and reinstalling it and now it won’t even get to the sign in screen without crashing. This sucks.

  115. dima Says:

will my unlimited subscriptions work? i’m in canada and my data plan is super-expensive so i use wi-fi only. i manged to sign in to my account with the subscription and the call i placed work fine. So does that mean that as long as I can find wi-fi coverage, I can call any of my contacts through that account and not get charged for anything? Would local calls charge me?

  116. Tisho Says:

Hello there I have tried all sugested above but I couldn’t make it work. I have iphone 3G 2.1 and when I even try to make a call om wifi the phone freezes. Anyone help

  117. Hussam Says:

    BRYAN>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Bryan my man thnx alot skype is working perfect using your method,,,thnx alot

  118. Enrico Says:

Reset Network Settings fixed this problem for me. If your phone is jailbroken you need to update mobile substrate.

  119. joex Says:

Hey ppl. I have skype FULLY working, over 3g etc. with no crashing on long calls. I have an iphone 3g 16gb. 2.2 fw. I didn’t update the substrate. I installed skype. Then i installed voipover3g. Then added the com.skype.skype in voipover3g.plist. Then I installed intelliscreen. Turned on app launch boost in intelliscreen’s performance, leaving voipover3g, backrounder, and winterboard ON below. I dont use the backrounder with skype though. No problems since. Hope this helps. I don’t think I left anything out.

  120. jamesapp Says:

    hello,
i haven’t installed skype. i have a jb 3G iphone running 2.2.1 just wondering if i wanted to use skype over 3g or edge what to do? should i just wait for a permanent fix. i have backgrounder installed i don’t have voipover3g from cydia, like i said should i just wait, and what would happen, hope that there is like an update(what would this update be i don’t know?) what exactly is voipover3g?

  121. Georg Says:

I also confirm that post 36 works. Stayed on in the background for several hours now. Only problem it doesn’t work over wifi. This was the same with nimbuzz. Is this how voiceover3g works or it should normally work on both 3g, wifi and be able to switch between the 2 without signing out? Thnx

  122. Justno Says:

I tried all ways, but it crashed all ways.

    jailbroken IP 2.2
1, install skype, type to sign in, crashed
2, uninstall skype, upgrade mobile substrate to 0.9.2804-1, install skype, sign in, crashed
3, run in safe mode in sbsetting, sign in, crashed
4, enable intelliscreen, sign in, crashed

    what should I do?

  123. Xilineace Says:

For the “no network connection” thing apparently skype does not recognize that it is on wifi or 3g. Simply re-springing wont work, you have to restart the the phone (I know, retarded, should have tried that first). I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem or if anyone knows a faster way of resetting the application other than restarting the phone. Thanks.

  124. hansoloo Says:

can’t see it. the install from Cydia said “trial expired” and had to download from rockyourphone.com

    did the app change?

  125. Marc Says:

I had this problem. It went away after I power cycled.

  126. ketzazu Says:

There is another program in the App Store that does not run in jailbroken phones, to be fair it’s one particular program of the multiple programs of the app store app called Lexi-Complete. It’s a $300 drug program for health professionals. The whole program runs fine except for the Interact part of it. I was told it was because Cydia updates the specific Apple Springboard version number which the program checks for and something about lack of support of temporary tables by Cydia…

I had to restore my phone in order to be able to use the program. And my background is now blacker than I am!

  127. pitkin Says:

    How Canadians may have Skype

Sign out from Canadian iTune (or whatever store which do not have Skype). On the bottom on iTune log to the French appstore
Make a new account with France iTune( put dumb but existing e-mail address & when asked for Credit card check none)
Confirm the subscription from the dumb e-mail address
At that step you will be redirected to France iTune store- download Skype on iTune. DO NOT SYNC THE PHONE at all.
Plug the iphone to the PC (iTune must be on), lunch ApStore aplication, do a search for Skype, donload it using the dumb e-mail address login you rgistered. At that point you have Skype installed.

To go back on the phone to your default iTune account
Sign out from the French appstore. On the bottom on iTune go to the Canadian appstore (or whatever store which is your default). Log in with your usual account than plug the phone, launch ApStore application and download any free application. Log with your default Apstore acount info

On my version, “Performance” is an option under the nameless group that follows Content Configuration. It is the next option after “IntelliDial” in this group.

new mobile substrata update via cydia avaliable!

  131. vril Says:

all things on skype are working now:
no crashes, voipover3g ok without intelliscreen performance help!
THANKS FOR THE FAST mobile substrate update!

  132. bryan Says:

Superb work from Saurik. New Mobile Substrate in Cydia 0.9.2805. Should be able to work with all the extension such as VoipOver3G and Backgrounder

  133. innuendoo Says:

Hi guys, it seems none of this is working for me (I didnt try intelliscreen because I heard problems with battery drainage). I upgraded to 0.9.2805-1, deleted clippy and backgrounder but my Skype is still crashing after 40 sec.

    any clue

  134. bryan Says:

Works fine without crashing for me and backgrounder as well but VoipOver3G seems not to work as i still get pop up message from Skype

  135. duc Says:

It is not working for me either with the new update. It still crashes on both wifi and 3G network. Can we get the previous version back up?

  136. anananas Says:

Great – works for me with the newest Mobile Substrate update. Skype didn’t crash and I can make phone calls over 3G!

    Great and fast work!

  137. bryan Says:

ok I think that VoipOver3G is not working because Skype hasn’t been added to VoipOver3G. can anybody @BigBoss confirm this or maybe kind enough to release a small update with skype added.

  138. bryan Says:

do you still have intelliScreen installed?

  139. Will Says:

I can only get Skype working with the new mobile substrate if I enable intelliscreen & performance boost on voipover3g. Otherwise it will crash on about 40 seconds of a call.

  140. Giacomo Says:

Hi. I’ve a 3G jailbroke 2.2.1 with the latest version of mobile substrate, clippy turned-off but skype crashes always after a few seconds. Impossible to download intelliscreen (server not available).
    Any suggestion? Thanks

  141. Voodoo3 Says:

Agreed, it would be nice if voipover3G could be updated in cydia to include the Skype bundle id.

I say this not because I’m lazy but in hopes to prevent confusion.

  142. Irons Says:

It isn’t working for me too. Still crashes with new version 0.9.2805-1.

  143. Hellion Says:

So, I been monitoring this thread and thought it was finally working. I had the last update of Mobiles -4 and everything worked minus working on 3G. No Intelliscreen. I just updated to the 5 version of Mobiles and now when I open Skype it just crashes off the bat. Any ideas whats going on? on a 8gb 3g 2.2.1

  144. Voodoo3 Says:

so it’s confirmed? Don’t install the new mobilesubstrate version as it doesn’t work??

  145. bryan Says:

it works fine for me over wifi although i was stupid enough to remove my 2.32 version of intelliScreen to test it and then realised it doesn’t work with VoipOver3G and i lost my V2.32 of intelliScreen with the performance boost tab.

  146. Sam Says:

Just installed the MobileSubstrate 0.9.2805-1 , it works perfectly with Skype + VoIPOver 3G.

  147. marcos100 Says:

after i upgraded to the latest mobile subtrate version 0.9.2805-1 Skype began to crach again when i type my usename. while the 0.9.2804-1 version worked perfectly!
    how can i solve this?

  148. Voodoo3 Says:

Bryan, Does fring work over 3G for you? The string is included for fring in voipover3g, just wondering if the new 5 version of mobilesub works with voipover3g?

  149. bryan Says:

The thing is that i cannot test fring with VoipOver3G as my fring version is the modified version so no need of VoipOver3G to use my fring over 3G network and my works wifi for some reason never connects to fring. So i cannot tell you this. But what i can tell you is that now my skype is no more working over 3G!

  150. duc Says:

for those who still crashes, do you have 5 icons app installed?

  151. marcos100 Says:

i do have 5 icons app
    yes

  152. marcos100 Says:

no sorry not the 5 icon app, but i have the 5 icon dock

  153. bryan Says:

I re-installed intelliScreen and now i got it back working on 3G. Gonna stick to it for at least my 9 days left on the license until someone figures out a better way. Although i have to admit i don’t really really need skype over 3G. I only don’t like being restricted.

  154. duc Says:

5 icon dock. that was what I meant. nevermind on that. it still crashes.

  155. Will Says:

Nope I dont have the 5 icon dock or app.

  156. duc Says:

we should get a list of the people whose phone is working after the new update. It is an applications that is crashing it to crash.

My 3G phone is crashing, however, my 1G phone is working fine. My 1G phone is newly jailbroken to 2.2.1 with 3 apps that uses mobile substrate. I havn’t isolate which one is the corrupit.

  157. bryan Says:

mine is working fine no crash. I don’t have 5 icons app or dock. But i still need intelliScreen to run in over 3G.

  158. Will Says:

Im the same as bryan working with intelliscreen. but if I run it without intelliscreen with voipover3g enabled it crashes after 40 secs of a call.

  159. bryan Says:

Will i don’t get any crash without intelliScreen but i get the pop up message from skype preventing me to call over 3G.

  160. Will Says:

Yeh same here, I havent been able to test over wifi though as I dont have one avaliable.

  161. seb Says:

    Hi, Thanks for the work.
Still Crash for me with the new MobileSubstrate….

  162. thatguy Says:

I’m on iphone 2G (4GB) and Skype’s been crashing since very first install. I can chat – no problem! but when it comes to calls – first it takes a minute to get to the calling screen itself and than after another minute it crashes!

I’ve tried the previous version of Mobile Substrate, the new one + the very new one released today. I’ve also tried IntelliScreen – same thing.

  163. marcos100 Says:

how can we go back to the 0.9.2804-1 version of mobile substrate?

  164. Voodoo3 Says:

I can confirm skype does not crash with mobilesubstrate 0.9.2805-1.
All I did was upgrade mobilesubstrate in cydia opened skype and played around for about 5minutes.

I even resprung and rebooted no problems.

I could not try voipover3g as I have not entered the skype id but I did turn on wifi and did a test call no problem again.

    I have these installed:
    Voipover3g
    Winterboard
    5 icon dock

I can list all my apps if interested

  165. bryan Says:

Retweet @saurik If you are still having “after about a minute” crashes with Skype it is likely caused by a non-MobileSubstrate extension (such as mAdvLock).

  166. Voodoo3 Says:

I can confirm skype does not crash with mobilesubstrate 0.9.2805-1.
All I did was upgrade mobilesubstrate in cydia opened skype and played around for about 5minutes.

I even resprung and rebooted still no crashing.

I could not try voipover3g as I have not entered the skype id but I did turn on wifi and did a test call on wifi and voice quility was sweet!

    Winterboard
    Intelliscreen

  168. Tisho Says:

Hello I have 2.1 firmware I have uninstall MobileSubstrate and still if I try to make call on wifi the phone freezes. Is it something to do with 2.1 firmware? Did anybody mahnaged to use skype on wifi with 2.1 firmare?

  169. Edin H. Says:

I also can confirm that Skype crash after about 40second with this new mobilesubstrate 0.9.2805-1,and it was worked fine with previous version mobilesubstrate 0.9.2804-1,except substrates becouse Saurik was disabled substrates with skype in that version,VoiPover3G didn’t work…

Also I tried to remove Mobilesubstrate 0.9.2805-1, and all applications that are connected with it (Winterboard,Mcleaner etc…) and then to reinstall only mobilesubstrate and it’s not working….

    Please fix it!

    Thx

  170. Tisho Says:

So that means that there is other problem as well not only the MobileSubstrate

  171. Edin H. Says:

No I don’t think so that there is another problem, becouse it worked perfectly fine with previosly version of mobilesubstrate when saurik disabled substrates with Skype…

    I counted,after launching app,every time it’s same: 1minute and 8seconds until Skype crash.

  172. Deepak H Says:

I have 2.1, and skype does not work. It just freezes when invoked. Intelliscreen did not make any difference. I have Mobilesubstrate 0.9.2805-1.

  173. Tisho Says:

So it could be the 2.1 firmaware. When skype starts it asks to upgrade to newer firmware

  174. Deepak H Says:

Skype says that it is optimized to 2.2 and advises us to upgrade to 2.2. Well, I never expected it not to work on 2.1. I thought there could be some glitches here and there, but it does not even respond to any inputs after loading the contacts.

  175. duc Says:

Ok. I finally got mine to work. After uinstalling my apps one at a time, it came down to mcoolphone that was causing my phone to crash.

I strike it kind of odd as this app is not common for most iphone users to install. I sense there maybe other apps.

Hope this will help some of you.

  176. Tisho Says:

Anyone has working skype on 2.1 ?

  177. Russell Says:

    Yep same problem.

1st gen 2g iphone 8gb, on version 2.1 update to Mobilesubstrate 2805-1 and crashes after 1min. Uninstalled MobileSubstrate, still crashes.

  178. Edin H. Says:

I’m using 2.2 version Iphone 2G,and it’s strange Russell, becouse when I uninstalled mobilesubstrate it didn’t crash anymore..

Try to uninstall mobilesubstrate and reinstall skype only?

  179. Tisho Says:

Does your 2.1 crashes even when you use skype with wifi?

  180. pablo Says:

I can confirm also that skype does crash with mobilesubstrate 0.9.2805-1.
(does not crash with previous version mobilesubstrate 0.9.2804-1)

  181. Ruben Says:

mine crashes too when I try to chat. FW 2.2.1

    0.9.2805-1

    No crashes with anterior version

    Ruben

  182. Daron Says:

    iPhone 3G 16GB, FW 2.2 (5G77), IntelliScreen 2.32 Premium

For me, ever since installation, Skype *always* crashes within a few seconds of launch. No matter what I tried (updated to mobilesubstrate 0.9.2804-1, updated to 0.9.2805-1, uninstalled and reinstalled Skype repeatedly, uninstalled and reinstalled mobilesubstrate and voipover3g), it crashed.

I also tried Safe Mode from SBSettings, but it doesn’t enter Safe Mode and simply resprings, so I was unable to test Skype in Safe Mode.

With Veency disabled, I can launch Skype! Yes, it still crashes with use like many others, but this was an important exercise in elimination.

  183. Rohit Kapur Says:

    I still can’t use Skype.

Updated MobileSubstrate to the latest version. No Intelliscreen installed. Uninstalled Clippy and mAdvLock as well. Skype crashes upon launch; doesn’t even reach the login screen.

Interestingly, I tried using it with Intelliscreen. I installed Intelliscreen and enabled voipover3G in it, and then used Skype. By doing so, Skype would then reach the login screen, but as soon as I touched the Username field to enter text, it crashed again.

Also, no custom Winterboard sounds are installed.

  184. WaTda Says:

the new update crash my skype..but the previous didnt crash my skype…

  185. pad Says:

Like with Pablo, skype crashes with the new version of mobilesubstrate 0.9.2805-1. The old version, mobilesubstrate 0.9.2804-1, had its problems too, like not being able to use the contacts, but at least it worked….

  186. Rohit Kapur Says:

Oh, I forgot to mention, I’m on a 2G iPhone.

I just springed into Safe Mode, and now Skype is working fine. So I guess it would seem that it’s still a MobileSubstrate issue.

    Saurik, help!

  187. WaTda Says:

it works with the new patch just uninstall my mCoolPhone..and its fine now

  188. Brian Says:

Still crashing for me with the latest (April 1st) MobileSubstrate. VoIPover3g works now, but the first time I tried the echo test call, it recorded my message, played it back, was telling me if I heard myself everything is great, then my phone completely crashed. Had to power it back on. Tried two more times and it crashed back to springboard. Disabled Intelliscreen and tried once more and it still crashed. I noticed SBSettings kept getting pulled down when I put the phone to my ear for the test call. Not sure if my ear just happened to be sliding on the bar somehow but that’s never happened before in the normal phone app and it happened every time with Skype. Something screwy there, maybe.

  189. WaTda Says:

backgrounder works and ill test the voipover3G later…mCoolPhone keeps my skype crash with the new
    patch

  190. Hellion Says:

Saurik better be April Fooling us with a M$ buyout of cydia! i’m redoing my whole phone and starting from scratch 2 see if i can get this working.

  191. Lynxy Says:

No crashes with intelliscreen, tried 5 min call. Without intelliscreen skype crashes when trying to call.

  192. Lynxy Says:

add: I have the latest (April 1st) MobileSubstrate.

  193. mminoo Says:

Please at least upload the previous update of MobileSubstrate. Everything worked fine with help of intelli, but now skype doesn’t even work with this new update at all, even on wifi.
Can any ine actually could confirm this new update works for skupe over 3G an d wifi?
    Help please!!!!

  194. twrecx Says:

    Hi new here.

Would someone be kind enuff to explain how to add the string “.com.skype.skype” to the voipover3g app. I understand I go to library/….. But where do you access this file from and how wouldntou edit it?!

Btw I’m on iphone3g 8gb with 2.2.1, new 2805 mobile substrate installed, worked on 2804 as well, and skype wrking flawlessly for me over wifi. Thanx guys , appreciate the help!

  195. twrecx Says:

I and backgrounding works as well!!

  196. innuendoo Says:

I went now even in bigger trouble with whole skype crashing. I deinstall Mobile Substrater and with that I wipe off complete panel which comes out after you swipe top bar. The problem is that there I had my Cydia icone stored, not on main Springboard. And now I cant start Cydia :-))) Its ridiculous.

any tip? maybe a direct link which can be executed in safari (like itunes)

otherwise I will have to jailbreak it again

    thx in advance

  197. tfh Says:

Awesome! it works for me :)

I’m so confused. Does it work over 3G with the new mobilesubstrate update or not? So many mixed results here.

  201. pad Says:

got skype working now on my 3G with mobilesubstrate 0.9.2805-1. I desinstalled Skippy which in my case is the only culprit. The voice quality was just excellent.

  202. pad Says:

    i meant clippy. Sorry.

  203. nookief Says:

updated to latest ms yesterday, skype work fine.
update today, the same problem occurs, but even worst, turn off winterboard, and still not working. ( yesterday, turn off winterboard, skype works ).

  204. jsr3012 Says:

I uninstalled the latest mobile substrate to try and put old version back on.
Intelliscreen was locking up all apple apps and non apple apps.
I upgraded to latest OS on my macbook which then meant I needed to use a usb hub. Now the phone displayed message that there was a problem with Intelliscreen (as I suspected) did I want to disable it?, which is what I did .
iPhone now working again as it should.

  205. Gowri Says:

Works like a charm with backgrounder and voipover3g (2.2 iphone 2g) , been waiting for this for a long time.

You are the man saurik , thanks for the quick fixes.

  206. Edin H. Says:

It’s mixed becouse everybody have different configuration…
    2G,3G, 2.1,2.2, 2.2.1….

I still didn’t get it how to fix problem :(

  207. psywzrd Says:

Same thing happens to me with SBSettings – very annoying. I think it’s because the screen doesn’t turn off in the Skype app when you put the phone to your ear like it does in the native phone app. I noticed a few other things too. One is that Skype calls don’t seem to transfer over to my bluetooth headset (nor do I even have the option to switch over manually once the call is connected). The other thing I noticed is that if you import a number from your contacts app into Skype’s contact app, you can’t call that contact unless there’s a “1″ before the area code. This is a problem for me because none of my contacts’ phone numbers have a 1 before the area code. You also don’t even have the option to edit the contacts # once it’s been imported into Skype’s contact list. This needs to be fixed somehow. My caller id doesn’t seem to be showing up when I call people either. I configured it on Skype’s website, got the text message, entered the code, etc. but I always show up as Unknown Name Unknown number when I call someone.

  208. leog7one Says:

    I have a 3g 2.1
I installed most recent mobile substrate update.
cant make calls on 3g or wifi
if i uninstall and then reinstall the skype app i can sign in and navigate through the app but when I try to make a call it crashes and then when I try to launch it again I cant do ANYTHING in the app. It just freezes and then crashes
I can do this in a complete loop over and over.
    I never had clippy installed
what can be causing this issue??

  209. pablo Says:

ok skype was crashing on launch for me with the new mobilesubstrate but when i enabled intelliscreen with performance boost for winterboard and backgrounder skype worked again !!

  210. nookief Says:

read on his twitter, he mentioned that mAdvLock might be the culprit

    and also, Microsoft bought cydia..

  211. bryan Says:

What? Microsoft bought Cydia? Where did you get this? If this ever happens i’ll restore my iphone to factory settings

  212. Gowri Says:

    U got punk’d , i mean april fooled :-)

  213. nookief Says:

haha~ i almost believed it~ haha. until i hit the youtube link! darn it!

  214. owen Says:

    from saurik twitter:

If you are still having “after about a minute” crashes with Skype it is likely caused by a non-MobileSubstrate extension (such as mAdvLock).

  215. nookief Says:

    uninstall madvlock, still no hope

  216. bryan Says:

i didn’t believed it. And if ever it was ever going to happen. I’ll probably say buy to jailbreak. I try to stay as far as possible from Microsoft

  217. leog7one Says:

    I dont have mAdvLock.
The only jailbreak apps I have are:
    Bitesms
    mobile terminal
    winterboard
    iblaklist

    bossprefs

Could any of these be causing a confict with skype working??
My issue is not crashing after about a minute its about when I try to make calls. It freezes, crashes and then I cant do anything in the app untill I reinstall again.

Allright – just figured out that I had to delete MobileLog 2.2.
Which is too bad, because I love it… but now Skype works flawless!

There is no option to “None” Credit Card. Could you confirm the procedure or if there is another way to create an account in a different country?

  221. Chris Says:

I still see the same version dated from Nov last year… maybe since I am licensed I don’t get a lite version?

  222. psywzrd Says:

I’m going to hold off on the mobilesubstrate upgrade until I’m 100% sure it will work over 3G without crashes or anything. I already have it working over 3G using intelliscreen and the boosts so I don’t want to mess it up.

  223. psywzrd Says:

The following is posted at the top of the page:

Saurik just released mobilesubstrate 0.9.2805-1. This version fixes the problem entirely allowing for mobilesubstrate addons to work with Skype app. You can now use Skype app with VoIPover3G! -
Quick Tip: The voipover3g string for Skype is: com.skype.skype -All lowercase

If I’m understanding this correctly, we can update mobilesubstrate, add the skype identifier to tyhe voipover3g plist file and user skype over 3g with no other hacks etc. (no intelliscreen necessary). Can anyone confirm this on a jb 3g at 2.2.1? Unfortunatley I’m at work with no ability to ssh into my phone to edit my plist file.

  224. ranova Says:

    yes, correct

  225. psywzrd Says:

Thank you (and sorry about the typos in my post). There isn’t any other way to edit the voipover3g plist other than ssh right?

  226. ranova Says:

if you have access to 3g or edge on your phone, go download Mobilefinder and an editor from cydia. You can manually go to the folder I supplied at the top of the story post and edit the plist using your iphone. Save it and respring and it should work.

  227. ranova Says:

or just an editor that allows you to browse through the file system. I used to have one but forgot the name.

  228. zoltan Says:

Even with the latest Mobile Substrate version I have to use the Intelliscreen Performance boost to stop it crashing.

  229. DOMINIQUE ROHR Says:

    MOBILELOG APP CAUSES THE PROBLEM!!!

HAD 4 IPHONES (3G) WITH IT, AFER UNINSTALL MOBILELOG SKYPE WORKS!!! HAVE TONS OF DIFFRENT TOOLS INSTALLED(CLIPPY, CYDELET, SBSETTINGS, IREALSMS…) AND NO PROBLEM NOW USING SKIPE.

    HAVE FUN

    DOMINIQUE

  230. owen Says:

was just reading SKYPE reviews in appstore. i wonder how many of those berating the app crashing are using a jailbroken iphone. In all fairness to the app programmers, they program for stock phones, not jailbroken ones.

  231. ranova Says:

you’d be surprised how many developers use jailbroken phones – especially the smart ones who want to try it on everything to make it work for everyone :)

  232. X2seB Says:

It’s MobileLog that keeps crashing my Skype. Removed it – Skype works. Sent PM to MobileLog people.

  233. ssombra Says:

    Hi,
I wasn’t able to use skype (3G iphone 2.2). I started to uninstall one application at a time. It seems that the app that was causing the problem was HOOD.
Now i can use it without crashing. I am going to re install mobiles and voipover3g to test it again.

    Cheers

  234. staromeste Says:

I’ve got an iPhone 3g 2.2.1, and this update works great, even without intelliscreen…Thanks…

  235. Brian Says:

Welp, I got mine working with no crashes. Even with latest MS, I was crashing. Intelliscreen performance boost enabled for VOIPover3g, Backgrounder, and SBSettings and now it works perfectly. My ear still seems to be pulling down the SBSettings window, but whatever. VOIP anywhere is worth a minor annoyance or two. :)

  236. Edin H. Says:

Well I found what is causing crashed on my phone…It’s application called MobileLog,when I uninstalled it, everything was fine ;)

  237. Edin H. Says:

Yeah the MobileLog is causing problems with Skype crash.

  238. Jord Says:

    Hi all,

Skype on my iphone JB 2.2 worked with the last two versions of Mobile Sub 9.2804 and 05 while it was crashing before.

Voice calls on skype worked on Wifi but not on 3G, even with a modified voipover3G.plist and Mobile Sub 9.2805. Then I found a new app called “Skype over 3G”. You need to add the iPhone-notes.de repository in Cydia to see it.

Now it works. Skype calls on 3G with Mobile Sub, SBS, Clippy and the works.

Hope this solution will work for others.

  239. jamesapp Says:

i am tentative to download skype or install the latest mobilesubstrate, do to all the problems people have been having. one question i have is the voipover3g application, does anyone know if they will update this to work with skype? i don’t know how to edit the plist file. so i have a jailbroken 3g iphone running 2.2.1 and am ready to get skype but could use some advice.

  240. mminoo Says:

Ilog 2.1 which is same as mobilelog 2.2 was crashing mine. It’s unfortunate that i had uninstall it, because it was a fantastic little software which i actually paid for it. i hope some one comes up with a fix for ilog so it would work with skype.

  241. TD Says:

SWEET! The new mobile substrate downloaded, SSH’d the change, and It works over 3G – Thanks to the developers!

  242. Voodoo3 Says:

voipover3g really needs to be updated in cydia to include the Skype bundle id.

Anyone know who to contact in order to make that happen?

  243. derm Says:

I am a bit of a noobie myself and it took a while to figure out the SSH thing.

    1. Install OpenSSH on your iPhone as described above using Cydia

    2. Use an FTP program to access the files on your iPhone

a)There are many FTP programs. Transmit (easist & best) & CyberDuck work for Mac. FireFTP is a Firefox plugin
    b) make sure the iPhone has a WiFi connection
    c) find your iPhone IP address by looking in Settings>WiFi then selecting the blue circle next to the network name
    d) Connect to your phone using the FTP program with the following settings:

    Server (use the IP address)
    Username root
    Password alpine
    Port 22
    Protocol SFTP

    3. Navigate through the file system to the file /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries/VoIPover3G.plist

(I had to navigate UP the folder tree at first to / then down to Library, etc.)

    4. Copy this file to your computer.

    5. Open it in a text editor. Text Wrangler works on a Mac.

    6. Add com.skype.skype to the list, mimicking the format of the others in the list by using quotes and comma in the same manner.

    7. Save the file.

    8. Copy it back to the iPhone, replacing the original one.

That’s what I did. Good luck.

  244. derm Says:

Working for me after editing the voipover3G.plist file as described.

I’ve only made a couple test calls using Edge. Quality is quite mediocre, but its pretty cool that it works at all on Edge, frankly. On WiFi the quality has been stellar…better than when I use my computer with Skype.

  245. KRM Says:

Skype works awesome on iPhone 3G 2.2.1., jailbroken, with latest MobileSubstrate, VoIP over 3G on a 3G connection!

All I did was edit the .plist and add com.skype.skype to it. :)

Thanks to saurik, MobileSubstrate and VoIP over 3G makers!! Thanks a million. And thanks to Skype for this cool app. ;)

  246. psywzrd Says:

If you think of the name of that editor that lets you browse through the file system, please let me know.

  247. Paul Says:

Thanks! Power cycling worked for me too.

  248. Mike Says:

Looks like “a better tap to unlock” crashes skype

  249. Russell Says:

    Yes.

Tried every combination of installing/uninstalling MS and Skype.

My next option is to re-jail break from scratch but that seems a bit extreme so hoping for an easier fix soon.

  250. chris Says:

Updated! Works great. Wow, this is awesome! Fantastic job, Saurik!

  251. Hellion Says:

There is an addon in Cydia that does that. I just saw it.

  252. zoltan Says:

    Saurik’s Twitter says:
“These still crash Skype after a minute: mAdvLock, mCoolPhone, MobileLog, and IntelliScreen. (They don’t use MobileSubstrate.) :(”

So IntelliScreen itself is crashing Skype when you don’t have that performance boost thing on.

  253. zoltan Says:

Sure enough. Uninstalling IntelliScreen has stabalized Skype for me.

  254. Irons Says:

Without last update was working fine, so within update it crash every time!! What is the diference? Can anybody tell me why?

  255. Jay Freeman (saurik) Says:

The only thing it could be doing is just not loading some of your extensions, at which point it would be better to just uninstall them. As for the 40 second crash, that is due to using an extension framework that doesn’t support Skype’s DRM model, which IntelliScreen’s Performance Boost feature happens to be: turn it off.

  256. Jay Freeman (saurik) Says:

Are you using a WinterBoard keyboard theme? I got a report that that might cause a problem. I am still looking into that.

  257. cee Says:

did all of the above including adding voip string and removing intelliscreen. worked perfectly the first time. after logging out of the skype app and trying again i received the comment that i had to be on wi.fi. other than that skype works fine

  258. Hellion Says:

ok I finally got this to work, made 2 calls about 2 min each on 3g and working fine. I’ll make a list of what I have installed after I reinstall my apps and report back! for now all I got is:

    Winterboard
transparent Dock / Suprememe Prefs enabled
    Cyntact
    Erica Utilities
    Five Icon Dock
    Five-Column SpringBoard
    hClipboard
    IrealSMS 2.0
    KeepAwake SB toggle
    Location Services Toggle
    MCallshow
    Memtool
    miPatch FW 2.2.1
    MObile Substrate
    MobileTerminal
    netatalk
    OpenSSH
    SBSettings
    Skype over 3G
    Swirly MMS / Lang Pack
    system-cmds
    Video REcorder for 3G
    VoipOver 3G
Tape Archive / unzip / UUID Generator
    xGPS / xGps Utility
    yellowsnow
    5 row QWERTY Keyboard
    20 sec. lock screen.

those should be the main ones i’m thinking…

  259. Will Says:

Just fixed mine, working perfectly over 3g, you have to uninstall intelliscreen, disabling is not enough and it will work.

  260. cee Says:

did a hard reset . over 3 g is working again

  261. Jasmer Says:

    SUCCESS Skype VOIPover3G.

    1. I don’t use Intelliscreen. Saurik has said it causes crashes not to mention the battery drain (it is noticeable). He also has said this about QuickGold. And when I used Intelliscreen it just slows my iPhone 3G down and jams up occasionally. My goal is to have a phone that actually works. Intelliscreen is just one more thing that gets in my way and slows me down. I don’t have time for issues. Any app or daemon that is running constantly (QuickGold, Intelliscreen, etc) is going to slow your phone down and eat up your virtual memory and therefore your battery life. “Sometimes” when Apple doesn’t allow something there is a reason. And the reason is the iPhone is already pushed to its limit (Processor & Battery Life). I’m a tech and this is my personal experience.

    2. I used a program called PhoneView for mac. There are free options out there and you can always SSH into your phone but I prefer PhoneView. Easy direct and fast.

    3. I followed these easy COMPLETE directions.
I used PhoneView to Navigate to: /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries

    4. Then I started with STEP 8 below (and no i didn’t need a plist editor I used the simple text editor in mac)
    http://blog.tmcnet.com/blog/tom-keating/skype/how-to-use-skype-over-3g-on-iphone.asp

Finally someone has offered COMPLETE directions. Problem solved as long as you have updated to the latest version of Mobile Substrate via Cydia.

  262. Hellion Says:

for those who may care, I installed these also and Skype still working like a charm!

    ibluetooth / cyDelete / imobile…./ Backgrounder / PDANet

The only one that gave me problems was the Madvlock app which now I don’t use but gotta find an alternative for now hopefully….

  263. George Says:

Works perfect over 3g after the last mobilesubstrate 0.9.2805-1 update. It also stays on the background. Thanks to Jay for the update and all the rest for the good work keeping us informed. I have to try if it stays connected while moving from 3g to wifi and back to 3g. Does anyone have the answer to this? Thanks

  264. clubs07 Says:

Updated mobilesubstrate with the latest version. Added the skype extension to Voipover3G. Skype works with no crashes. Voipover3G allows skype to run and place VOIP calls on 3G connection. The problem I’m having is “the builtin Iphone 3G microphone does not work with skype” Everything works fine with the headsets microphone. Yellowsnow installed. iPhone firmware 2.2.1 without the latest baseband upgrade

  265. pitkin Says:

Updated mobilesubstrate with the latest version from Apr 1, 2009. Added the Skype extension to Voipover3G.dlyb. Skype crashed on start. I respring in safe mode, fired Skype & entered my logging info. Rebooted the phone & Skype crashed on reboot. Removed one by one the mobilesubstrate.dlyb, rebooting the phone any time:
    THE CULPIT WAS Cyntact.dylib
After I removed it, Skype starts and I’m able to do calls over 3G.
However I can only talk- any time I’m trying to initialize chat, Skype crashes immediately- even when I desabled Clippy, customer keyboard sounds and iKeyExec keyboards

I didn’t debug that issue yet but that should be the main issue- crash when keyboard is reinitialized

    iPhone firmware 2.2
IntelliScreen 2.49 9without the option for performance boost)

    Mobile substrates:
    Cyntact (removed)
    Backgrounder
    Clippy
    CyDelete
    DismissAwayItems
    FiveIconDock
    HarHarSnapture
    iRealSMS
    LiveTime
    MailToAttachmentMessageUI
    PreferenceLoader
    PrefHooker-iKeyEx
    PwnPlayerLib
    ReflectiveDock
    SBHooker-iKeyEx
    SBSettings
    StatusNotifier
    TVOut
    VoIPover3G
    WeatherIcon
    WinterBoard

  266. digg1er Says:

gTxtEdit doesn’t allow you to browse per se, but you can type in the path and filename and it will launch it that way… hth.

  267. ranova Says:

Its probably has to do with intelliscreen or a combination of a few. I use cyntact and clippy and skype works fine.

  268. RDL Says:

“Works perfect over 3g after the last mobilesubstrate 0.9.2805-1 update.”

    Really??

I can’t even get it to work over wifi with the mobilesubstrate update. Anything else I can try? I’m removing mobilesubstrate now and seeing if Skype works for me without it!

  269. RK Says:

How do I install mobilesubstrate 0.9.2805-1 ? I think I accidentaly removed the existing one and I don’t see an entry in cydia when I do a search.
I installed voipover3g and have changed the plist file. I still can’t get it to work on 3g

  270. George Says:

Skype sign out after a while, when running on the background over wifi. Surprisingly it stays signed in over 3g. Does anyone knows why?

  271. George Says:

As others mentioned there should be some mobilesubstrate.dlyb causing the problem. Try to remove them one by one and it should eventually work. Go through the posts here if you need more details

  272. George Says:

Ok, thinking of this again it must have to do with the wifi radio going off after some time being idle. Is there a way to bypass this?

  273. RDL Says:

Was chatting with a friend on Skype and both our phones crashed and got stuck on the apple logo screen .. he held down the power button and got his working.. I had to do a complete restore..

Anyway after the restore (No Mobile Substrate installed) Skype worked completely fine.

Unfortunately I can’t install one app at a time into Mobile Substrate and test it because I only know one person using Skype and he doesn’t have the time to be around to test things with me.

Hopefully if I keep searching a list will be composed of apps that definitely crash Skype.

    Skype is too sensitive! lol

  274. chris Says:

mAdLock was giving my skype trouble (would only stay on for around a minute). Removed mAdLock for the time being until I can find a work around. Thanks for the update. This is too cool! Back-up wifi line that I can use on the go as well!

  275. Tom Says:

Just a note for those who followed the instruction but still crash on inputting text: see if you have any extra input methods installed. I installed some and forgot their existence… After removing them, Skype works.

  276. oakish Says:

Did the upgrade on Mobile Substrate and just uninstaled Clippy and it works just fine !!!!

  277. George Says:

If only there was a way to automatically switch to 3g when wifi goes off. Maybe a mobile substrate ad-on could do this. I also mentioned that if I switch between wifi and 3g I get the message that skype works only on wifi when on 3g. Restarting is solving this. Possibly an update in voiceover3g could solve this permanently.

  278. jsr3012 Says:

    any ideas?

STILL CRASHING after 1 minute usage! Any solutions for that?

  281. Irons Says:

When I installed 0.9.2805-1 Skype crashed every time.
I removed Intelliscreen and now Skype works perfect over 3G.
In my case the problem is Intelliscreen.

maybe some issue with clippy, intelli screen, mobile substrate and skype together.

before the mobil substrate update (when it was auto deactivated for skype) skype worked like a charme, even with the clippy update befor.

    i dont know. no solutions

  286. marcos100 Says:

    hello everybody!
yesterday when i upgraded mobile substrate to 0.9.2805-1, Skype began to crash again when i enter the 1st leter of my user name. So i installed intelliscreen and did the boost thing, so it worked again. Then i upgraded intelliscreen to latest payed version and skype began to crach again.
I tried to uninstall intelliscreen and here my phone froze on the apple so i had to restore it.
When i did restore, i upgraded my firmware from 2.2 to 2.2.1 and did the jailbreake aptbackup to get all my 3rd party apps prior to skype day, and then installed latest mobile substrate and latest voipover3g and last i installed skype.
Now all working even voice calls over 3G.

only one thing the quality voice on 3g is a little bit bad. maybe it’s because of my 3G network.
Anyway, to resume all this, i think my crash problem came from the 2.2 firmware and solved in 2.2.1. because i had same apps on both.
I hope it will help some of u.

  287. bajia Says:

Tried everything yesterday finally got it to work, the problem was intelliscreen.

I uninstalled everything but intelliscreen and mobile substrate, skype still crashed after about 40sec in call. Finally, I uninstalled intelliscreen (really love this app), then skype works perfectly on wifi and 3g( a little choppy with 3g).

After that, I installed clippy and backgrounder, skype still works perfectly. Then I installed intelliscreen back, the crashing problem came back. Once I uninstalled it, the prblem went away.

So for me, the problem is intelliscreen. Hope this problem can be fixed soon. I’m counting on all the genius here! :D
(I had all updated version, os 2.2.1, latest mobile substrate, latest voipover3g)

  288. MenG Says:

same problem over here..i’ve del intelliscreen…switching it off still doesnt work..

no choice but to del it..

  289. Andy Says:

    Hello BigBoss,

In the VoIPover3G update plist is it possible you can include the ustream code

  290. George Says:

Thanks for the reply. I’m afraid this would drain the battery and it’s not a problem of the keep awake but of wifi radio being energy demanding (there should be a reason that goes off after a while after all). Did you try it?

  291. Waleed Says:

Guys, skype worked fine with the first mobile substrate update, but when i did the second mobilesubstrate update, it works then it crashes in a minute or so…plz help

  292. George Says:

Skype signs out after some time when the phone is inactive. I thought this is happening only in wifi but now I see it also over 3g. Pressing the home button for the screen to go alive is enough for skype to sign in again. Is anyone else experiencing this?

  293. psywzrd Says:

gTxtEdit is actually the one I download and used. What a pain in the a$$ that program is though – not user-friendly at all.

Same thing here, with the previous mobile substrate update, skype was able to run, but the latest update crashes skype upon start-up, cannot even reach the login screen.

I tried uninstalling Intelliscreen, mcallshow and others already, still the same thing.

The only thing left in my Dynamic Libraries folder are Cyntact, fiveicondock, sbsettings, voipover3g and winterboard. Should I uninstall all of them?

By the way, there is something called “smshide.dylib” in the dynamic library folder, what exactly is it and how can I uninstall it? I can’t find the app by the same name in my cydia package list.

    Your work is much appreciated

Now, many tests later, Skype works !
    (with mobilesubstrate 0.9.2805-1)

The trick for me is Intelliscreen “App Launch Boost” switch to on. Is this switch ON Skype works w/o extension, also with extension “Background”, “SBSettings” and “PrefHooker-iKeyEx” . (No time for more tests).

looking for some help here: I have no 3G or Edge (unlock phone with no data plan.. long story), but I do have wifi. I did make a successful call to “sound test” a couple days ago but since then I keep getting the message “you must have a WiFi connection to make and receive calls with Skype” My wifi is working (and I’ve tried a couple locations), and I can still “chat” but just not make voice calls. I do have intelliscreen and have updated to the latest Mobile Sub already. thanks!

    Hello,
I have skype installed and updated to the newest mobilesubstrate I also installed the update for voipover3g my problem is that I can’t connect to an adhoc network on my laptop, I don’t know if this is related to the updates I installed? I reset my network settings with no luck I don’t have another wifi network to test with.

  304. spontan500 Says:

Jay, it seems 0.9.2804-1 was working fine with fw 2.2 but whenever I(we) upgrade to the 0.9.2805-1 we r facing 40 secs or 1 min crash again. So we need 0.9.2804-1, how can we get it again? how can we downgrade? I was able to use Skype and happy with it but now it makes me insane!

    thx.

  313. shunsky Says:

sorry for late reply, No I’m not using WinterBoard keyboard theme. my description above might be confusing…

I DON’T install Intelliscreen, Backgrounder, Custom Winterboard Keyboard Click Sounds on my iPhone.

I made a phone call to Japan with Skype via AT&T’s 3G network (VoipOver3G installed), and it worked fine. And no other problems haven’t been found ever since I updated mobilesubstrate to 0.9.2805-1.

I’m always amazed at your development!!

    Thank you!

  314. jared Says:

OK, I’ve got 3G FW 2.2.1 and probably a bunch of apps I really don’t need. I got rid of intelliscreen a while ago, so it wasn’t a problem. Yet, even with update 5, skype wouldn’t successfully open (but I could open it in safe mode). It dawned on me that I’ve got this app called dock prefs or something. With it you can slide your finger upward on the screen and you come to a scrolling launch mode for your apps. I opened the settings for this app and disabled the toggle called dock. So far this seems to have done the trick–skype works. I tested chat and call. I’m not sure what the dock toggle does. The app still seems to work the same.

  316. Joe B Says:

All, I removed clippy, disabled all keyboard sounds, special themes, etc, essentially a jailbroken inphone running firmware 2.2 with updated mobilesubstrate and the phone freezes when I do anything on skype after sign in. Can’t call, can’t dial, etc. I realy run very little “fluff” from cydia (special themes, etc) and disabled everything before trying skype again, froze after sign in

  317. Malodayi Says:

Hi i have been reading and searching about the crashing skype after MS 0.9.2805-1. I have an iphone 3G with FW 2.2.1

As i read further and tried lots and lots of things, it’s understood that my problem was caused by iLog. I didn’t want to uninstall iLog cos’ I check my phoe bills with it’s log. So, long story short, I deleted the entry for iLog in the com.apple.SpringBoard.plist file and alsocom.iXtension.iLogDaemon.plist itself from System>Library>Launch Daemons and voila. Now I have Skype and also iLog workin’. I guess iLogs “recents replacement” or “notification” functions won’t work anymore, but i was not using them anyway.

    Hope helps somebody.

  318. Dan K Says:

    Hi all.

I’m running msub 0.9.2805-1 and FW 2.2.1 with updated baseband (so no yellowsn0w) and I have disabled everything I can think of but Skype still crashes when I invoke a keyboard. I have Intelliscreen installed but disabled, no themes active, clippy disabled, and backgrounder with no automatic invocations. Basically, Skype kills itself whenever I touch any field that requires an entry, meaning I can’t type anything…

I’m tempted to see if even with a fresh jailbreak my phone just kills skype… Any ideas?

Also, where can I view the skype crash logs. I haven’t been able to find them with mFinder.

  319. pl_svn Says:

… btw, BB: could you *please* disable SBSettings in Skype (and Phone too)?

yesterday I restored my phone (to get rid of RYP crap) and found IntelliScreen to be cuplrit of Skype crashes: without IS installed Skype works as a charm!!!

  320. axil Says:

Can I safely remove Intelliscreen? if so how?

I am running 2.2.1 unlocked using yellowsnow. Have deleted most of the software which could be causing this. Don’t have clippy installed. Skype works for 40 secs then crashes.

    What else can i Try?

    skype is realy working fine

  335. Doctor Says:

Got it working on Jailbroken 3G 2.2 FW o2 UK. First time installed gave me the “this wont work on modified phones”. So I did a complete upgrade in cydia, upgrading mobile substrate file etc. Then I looked at Saurik’s list (on cydia), took off the apps I had (MCoolPhone) also took off Mewseek since that had stopped working. Reinstalled Better tap to unlock and reintalled VOIP3G. Skype worked perfectly for 5 minute test call. Unbelievably turned off wi-fi and manahed to make a call using GPS (is that what its called? The one that’s slower than Edge)… Didn’t expect that to work… Hoping the Backgrounder guys get backgrounder working with Skype. That would be perfect. Good luck with it guys

  336. Doctor Says:

Backgrounder works fine. Just have to enable in backgrounder preferences. Doesnt load app for me when a call comes in but I hear it ringing and open app myself and answer call.

Today I downloaded the latest version of Skype from ITunes to my JB 3G Ver. 2.2 IPhone and got a message from Skype saying “cannot use 3G for VOIP calls2 or words to that affect. Wireless was out of range at time. Worrying thing is as a result since then I cannot pick up my (or any) network providers and am getting the ‘no service’ display.

Could my unintentional attempt to use Skype with no modifications installed on 3G have caused this?

my question is for saurik or someone that have cracked apps and legit ones too only on a jailbroken phone (except mobile finder)

i have half of my apps appstore cracked ipas and other half legit appstore apps that i buy because i wanted to support the dev after i tested its app cracked before. my problem is some apps like ferrari gt brothers in arms and asphalt 5 sometimes dont open showing me a black screen and i closed them and reopened them and they start ferrari gt is legit and acted exactly as the cracked one, so the two others. is the mobilesubstrate, wich i have installed, the problem and if i remove it completly, did my apps will think my phone is not jailbroken? or reformulated: did this mobile substrate have any influence on appstore apps cracked and non cracked?

    thanks
