iPhone OS v3.0.1 is out. So far jailbreaking works if you use dev team tools redsn0w and even ultrasn0w. Purplera1n fails. I would recommend holding off the update though. It will not offer you much, if anything, and the current jailbreak state will most likely result in a 3.0 kernel on 3.0.1. In a few days a real jailbreak tool will be released. For those of you that can’t resist, you can update and jailbreak using the guides on this site. Just point redsn0w to your 30 firmware. This works for 2g, 3g, and 3gs.
Not recommended at this time. Good news that Apple hasn’t cracked down on the 3gs hole yet.

I just jailbroke mine yesterday, I started back in the day Nov. 07 black Friday. I remeber the old jailbreaking days. I love what you all have done since I last Jailbroke Aug 08. Thank you to all that made Cydia,i have spent a total of 3$ in the app store since it came out. I surpassed that in my first hour on Cydia. As for 3.0.1 i think i will hold off until the 3.1 is out. If we stay at 3.0 does a root & mobile password change afford any protection against the SMS security exploit? Secondly, apple has threatened a DoS on jailbroken devices. Does disabling the apple killswitch prevent that?

No, the exploit has nothing to do with the root password as I understand it.
Second, there is no theatened DoS. You misinterpret the article. By ‘service’ Apple means they may refuse to fix your phone if you bring it to them because you bricked it somehow.

I just read on the iPhone Dev Team blog that it is OK to use redsn0w 0.8 with the 3.0.1/3.0 combo to jailbreak. They said there are no changes to the files that redsn0w modifies between versions, only the SMS patch. They said they’ll update redsn0w to recognize the 3.0.1 firmware, but that’s the only change that would be made.

Here’s a confirmation. I did the upgrade to 3.0.1.
- Restore to 3.0.1 using iTunes
- The baseband is the same, so ultrasn0w still works
- Used redsn0w 0.8 and used 3.0.0 firmware (NOT 3.0.1)
- Redsn0w got hung up on the reboot, so I had to unplug the iPhone and replug it back in to get around the bug.
- Installed ultrasn0w and used a prepaid T-mobile SIM.
- Works GREAT!!

I upgraded to 3.0.1 and standard jailbreaking methods worked fine. My problem now is that I can’t get AppSync download via Cydia (hackulous source) because hackulo.us seems to be down. Is there a work around.

I upgraded to the 3.0.1 without investigating more throughly. Using Redsn0w to jailbreak… the iPhone now does not recognize the presence of the sim card.

To get around the hang-up, just pull the USB cord out of the iPhone and plug it back in. The jailbreak should continue from there.

Larry, I performed the jailbreak myself late Friday night and posted what I did. While I don’t have an activated AT&T SIM (not using their service), I was able to get ultrasn0w and a prepaid T-Mobile SIM card working fine. Hopefully, what I posted may be of help to you.

The wifi on my 3G greyed out when I updated to 3.0.1. and jailbroke it with redsn0w 0.8.
After doing so many restores (DFU mode) I managed to make it working again (without jailbreaking) but it is not very stable still as it drops the network connections at times.
I really regret upgrading to 3.0.1.

I had a problem of cydia freezing at the re-spring and had to do a forced shutdown. Upon re-boot, SBsettings was there and working though.

ok, so I am uber pissed right now. I had the app from cydia that installed that put ur app’s into file folders on ur screen. after I did the newest update, it reverted my phone to its old non-jail broken days, and all the app’s I had in those folders are gone! straight gone! tried restore, nothing. tried dfu mode, again nothing. tried re-downloading the app’s, says their already installed. tried deleting them off my phone via itunes and redownloading them, and as soon as they are installed the app icon dissipears! can someone, anyone help me with this?!?

Download sbsettings or bosspreffs. Then go into hide icons. All the apps u had in folders should jus be hidden. Unhide them and they should go back to ur homescreen i did the samething on mi fone

I unstalled 3.0.1 which resulted in my 3Gs being locked, I have unlocked using redsnow8 and 3.0 IPSW file. I had some problems downloading the IPSW (IE does not work I had to use Firefox).
Problem is now that it still does not recognise my SIM. I have tried to install SB settings but I cant seem to get it installed. There is several versions of it on Cydia or am i doing it wrong. I cannot seem to find ultrasnow anywhere else.
I am from South Africa btw. Any help will be appreciated.

I had the same problem yesterday. After restoring four(!) times i realized i had to unlock the sim card before using Redsn0w to jailbreak, allowing itunes to activate the phone. After that everthing was fine :-)

I have a question, I understand that when you update the firmware it un-jailbreaks the iPhone, and you have to jailbreak it again. I have no problem re-installing apps and themes, but what about an app I paid for like iBlacklist? Should I be able to just download it again and then register it, or would I have to re-purchase it?
I just jailbroke the iPhone a few weeks ago and have never had to deal with a firmware update before!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok whats the deal? Updated my 3g to 3.0.1 in iTunes. Downloaded redsn0w 0.8, and the correct IPSW using both IE and firefox. Neither one of them worked. redsn0w 0.8 give me a message stating that it is “unable to recogonize specified IPSW” I have tried this about 7 times. Now I am stuck with a plain old iphone, and it sucks. Need help ASAP or i’m gonna go nuts. Any advise is appreciated

I upgraded my 2G to 3.0.1 … and everything worked fine. Pkg Backup (which is a paid application on Cydia) gave me some hard time at first because it did not restore all my ydia application, but finally thanks to Jibril (the owner who is extremely helpful), I managed to solve things out.
The only two issues I have now are:
1. Supreme Preferences 3.0 has disappeared and I can not get it back. any idea where did it go?
2. The package called (APN Edit), that used to allow me to edit my network settings does not seem to work on 3.0.1 !!!!! I tried to restore it via Pkg Backup, or to install a fresh copy of it through Cydia, but it is not working. I noticed that while installing it through Cydia, it is saying that is can not fine the Directory in which this software can be installed. For people who don’t know what (APN Edit) is, It is the Package you install to be able to edit your mobile operator Network Settings (Internet and MMS settings).
If anyone knows a solution to this … please direct me on how to solve this! Thanks in advance people

I got hackulo to work after updating to 3.0.1 firmware. When adding the source, instead typing hackulo.us ( which is what I’ve always done in the past ) I typed in cydia.hackulo.us and it worked perfect. I felt like a dumbass afterwards but it worked.

Tried to update my unlocked/jailbroken 2G from 2.2 to 3.0.1 using redsn0w, did not work…would get hung up on “transfering data” and would not reboot even thought redsn0w said it was “done”. Now I can’t get my phone to do anything except show the “itunes + USB” picture…

Hi I am from Mumbai, India. I was using an unlocked 3g iphone 8gb on 2.2 FW. Last month i restored via Itunes to 3.0 Fw, jailbroke with redsn0w 0.7.2 and unlocked with ultrasn0w. It worked for a week then cydia released ultranow 0.9.1 and then my probs started of No service. for 3 weeks I tried everything posted in most of the the blogs but without success, did multiple restore and jailbreak with 0.7.2 and 0.8. Even after installing ultrasn0w it did not work. Somebody suggested to use ultrasnow 0.8 by Rizwan. I did that and it worked for 24 hours but now I got a bigger problem. All of a sudden it shows ENTER PASSCODE. I tried but could not jailbreak again with redsn0w 0.7.2 or 0.8. Could not restore again as Itune says enter passcode to proceed. Pls help. pls advice. Thank you.

Ok, I finally just broke down and upgraded from 2.2 to 3.0.1. I backed up all of my files via SSH and backed up my music and contacts via iTunes and Outlook. Then I updated through iTunes and then used Redsn0w pointed to the 3.0 file to jailbreak. Everything went smooth. Now I am in the process of putting everything back how it was. So far so good. I am glad I updated as none of the new games and apps or updates would work without 3.0+

It turns out that I was wrong. Everything did not go smooth. After it finished installing Cydia nd I ran it it said “Reorganizing – will automatically close when finished” and then it just said that over and over, every time that I ran it. I tried like 50 times. I finally gave up and restored back to factory default and then upgraded and then jailbroke again. This time everything worked perfectly. It seems that if you already had it jailbroke it finds some of those files or something and gets hung up on reorganizing so you have to do it from a fresh restore. So now I will start the VERY LONG process of putting everything back how it was from scratch.

Now I am in bigger shit. I tried different combinations ie 0000, 1111, 2222 etc. Now it shows “Iphone is disaled connect to itunes”. I tried to connect to itune but it shows error of ‘itune could not connect as it is locked with a passcode” whereas I never locked it, it happened all of a sudden. It still shows full network and calls are coming in but I cant use it to make calls or listen to music etc as as soon as I slide to open it, it shows only emergency call and does not go any further. Pls help as I am totally stuck. How to restore it again. Big Boss pls help.

I jailbroke my 3Gs no problem. I’ve run into a problem twice now. Once the battery died and once I used the reboot feature in SBSettings. What happens is the phone will never boot back up again. Just keeps loading then restarting. The only way to get it back is to intstall the original OS through iTunes, then re jailbreak it again. As you can tell this is a timely process and a pain in the butt.
Anyone else had this happen? Anyone have a tip for booting into a safe mode or how to get it back up and running without having to redo everything again?
Any comments welcome on this issue!!
