Apple is due to release 5.1 soon. When that happens, they will stop signing 5.0.1. This means you will only be able to restore to 5.1. 5.1 breaks the upcoming jailbreak. If you are currently a 4s owner or an ipad 2 owner, you will want to get your device to 5.0.1 ASAP. This way when the jailbreak is released, you will be able to use it. If you do not restore to 5.0.1 now, in a few days when 5.1 is out, you may never be able to get from 5.0 to 5.0.1 and only option will be to wait again.

Yes. Over the air updating is fine. As long as you’re on 5.0.1 you’re ok.

What if we use TinyUmbrella? Then can we still restore back to 5.0.1 if were on 5.1?

I can restore to 5.0 with the stitch method right now. I’m anxious to test restores to 5.0.1 using this method once 5.1 is out. If we can restore to 5.0 we can probably restore to 5.0.1 as well.

Not if you own a 4s or and iPad 2. iPhone 4 and the rest should be OK.

No. You can’t downgrade to 5.x firmwares, independently if you are using a new or older device.

I tried to update 5.0.1 when running tinyumbrella and it doesn’t work. It is error when it try to update in iTunes. I had did that before on my iPhone 4 and it works but not 4S.

You shoul create a coustom iOS 5.0.1 with the final redsn0w and the new one that you cooked will be named NO BB
Means no baseband
Than you enter Dfu mode and on iTunes shift and restore with NO BB iOS 5.0.1 .
And you have ios 5.0.1 firmware with your baseband

If you need or want an unlock (either by ultrasn0w or ??) always preserve your baseband unless specifically stated it’s ok to update the baseband.

You won’t be able to install Cydia and jailbreaked apps since your jailbreak is gone by upgrading. All what you need to do is have some patience and wait for pod2g to release the new A5 jailbreak 5.0.1 for iPad2 and 4S
