US and UE should make a law that force mobile manufacturers to official unlock a device at owner request. (if i bought an iphone that is out from carrier contract and i’m out from the country that i bought it’s no way to official unlock)

So far, sbssettings, activator and barrel seem to work fine in 4.3 with the available jailbreaks. Everything else (app store apps) seem stable. Cydia as well.

Totally agree. I believe US does have that law but somehow AT&T got a loophole to not unlock any handsets they carry exclusively. So they will unwittingly keep supporting the ul community until apple let’s t-mobile carry the same gsm iPhone. Seems that is the only scenario to break AT&T’s exclusivity clause.

The 4.3 update crashed my iPhone so I am definitely not doing it on my iPad.

I wouldn’t recommend apps that can save Cydia apps list to download later as they often install programs that no longer work and files do change with new firmwares I recommend signing back into Cydia add the all sources again and downloading your purchased apps three at a time. Three at a time so if something causes a problem it could be eliminated without much guess work. You can see your purchased apps by selecting the “my account” link in Cydia. As far as free themes you could zip the entire themes file by ssh or ifile and save it on your computer or through e-mail and reinstall later (WINTERBOARD WILL NOT WORK ON 4.3 (yet)

I have AT&T and I never once had a dropped call in two years while using a Samsung Blackjack II , but not that I switched to an IPhone I seem to have one to two dropped calls per day! Really I’m on 4.3 and it works great, just winter oats gives you a problem and who cares about themes. Sbsettings, FaceTime on 3G , miwi, all work so what are you talking about. I want more. & I’m looking for moving home screens like with lights flashing or moving around or pics that move. Please let me know. But one problem that non jailbreakers have is thinking that it will ruin or change your phone that u already really like or that it is hard to do. that is not true it is easy to do takes 4-5mins & the main thing is a safe JB that is well known like greenposion. you tube can show u step by step videos on how to do it & I thing a non tethered 1 is best & easiest speacially for beginners. & it don’t change your phone really it just gives u another app store that let’s u do things that others would want to charge u $$$ for. Anyone who thinks they no longer need a jailbreak for the iPhone4 doesn’t really understand everything that jailbreaking does. I for one can’t live without Background allowing me to truly multitask, and the fact that MyWifi On Demand turns my wifi only iPad 1 into a fully functioning 3G iPad without a monthly fee is amazing! Even if I wanted to pay for the service to ATT that would allow my IPad to be tethered to my iphone4, they would downgrade my unlimited data plan which has been
grandfathered in. No thanks! Now I have unlimited data, and it is unbelievably cool that the program turns itself on and off when it us needed so there is no fussing around. All this for free except the $20 one time fee for MyWifi, that’s a great deal. Even simple things like having the date and the free memory listed right next to the time on the info banner are great. Resupported4 and DisplayOut which allow whatever is on the iPhone or the iPad1 played directly to your TV in HD using any cables whether Apple approved or not are awesome. Just the other night, at a friend’s house, I was able to hook my iPhone up to the their TV’s component HD hook ups and was able to stream a video, in any format, including but not limited to .avi, .mkv, .mpeg, .mov, .wmp, .flv, that’s on
my home computer. Or that I stream over my iPhone using Netflix, or even the free version Hulu (I won’t say how b/c Hulu seems to be trying to actively block this lately – but it IS still possible to watch free Hulu over an IPhone and play it on your TV thanks to the programs I mentioned and a few others. I could never live w/out my jailbreak.

I found an app in cydia called aptbackup. It is supposed to creat a backup of all your cydia apps and puts it into iTunes. However it will not save your settings. But it’s better then nothing.

Actually, there are some out, you just have to know where to get them, but they are all currently tethered , and currently are in alpha testing since some more kernels still need to be patched.:P

To Anonymous above: the os4.1 and below software have many jailbreaks , untethered available. When os4.2 came along there were far less jailbreaks available, in part because if you jailbreak from os4.2 it changes your bandwidth and voids your warranty, meaning if apple looks at your phone, even if you’ve restored, they’ll know you messed with it and warranty is voided. So you should probably jailbreak just to be safe from os4.1 usig an untethered jb which means you won’t have to reinstall every time you restate your springboard. I believe there are more os4.2 jb’s out there now but there’s not anything in 4.2 or 4.3 that’s worth the risk. If you unlock with 4.1 you can still go back and restore f u need to and it won’t void warranty. And yes, it’s a thousand times worth doing-I could not go a day without an unlocked device, truly, it’s like having one eye shut. But u do have to google certain things and a jailbreak that works is one f them. I’d say greenpoisn 4.1 untethered is easiest and safest. Google it. Haha. P.s. Everything I just said is personal experience. I don’t claim to be a techsupport by any means and I could be wrong about some minor things but in a nutshell that’s what I’ve personally experienced. (but as far as my opinions on jailbreaking-I’m right.;)

Only a few EU countries have laws regarding unlocking.

In Estonia, the iPhone is released months after everywhere else and is locked. Only at the end of the mandatory 2 year contract will the carrier unlock it, and even them you have to pay an extra fee.

iPhone4 was not available here until November. I went to buy one and was told they only have 16GB model and I have to get on a wait list to buy one. After several months waiting, I got an email in the last week of Janurary saying I had one week to come buy the phone or loose my place. I went to the store and was then told that I have to pay 800 euro for one because I am in contract and the contract cannot be extended or modified in any way. That is over $1000 for a phone… I could buy an iPhone off contract in US and a PC laptop for the cost of just a phone here.

I have AT&T and yeah, the features are cool. But I’ve been ticked off at AT&T ever since they changed their 3G data plan from unlimited to 2gb a month!!!

Oh, there’s no NEED, but who wants to exit an app every time they need todo something as simple as sending an SMS, checking the time, seeing notifications, or checking the weather. To put it simply, JB gives us something that Apple won’t because Apple knows millions will buy the iPhone even if it’s stripped of customization options.

- yes you can JB on MAC the 4.3 GM but it’s not fully stable. And if you don’t know what to do, just forget it… It’s more useful for developers atm.

- just wait for the stable version to come out, the might me an announce from Bigboss when u can JB 4.3

- For the unluck, might have to wait a mouth, it’s usually more long but be patient… 4.2.1 won’t kill you!!!

There is a jailbreak for 4.3 but it is semi-tethered meaning it will reboot but it you tap an app it will crash so you will have to run a sertain program on a computer to get it to work again

Up here in Canada, all the iPhones sold at the Apple stores over here are factory unlocked. So if you really need an unlocked iPhone, just drive up north of the 49th parallel and find a mall in a larger city. Most of the better malls in Canada will have an Apple store.

That’s not entirely correct. I bought my iPhone from the app store in Manchester last year and it was locked to o2 although o2 will unlock your phone for you if your on he o2 network but other operators will charge you £30

Hello peeps I’ve been googling for the past 3 days now and there is so much info that I need someone’s help to make sure I do this right. Heres the deal:

I bought a used Iphone 4 locked to Fido and is currently stuck in the ”emergency call screen”. So the phone is not even activated. I have a Fido micro sim on the way that I will use to activate the phone. I know for a fact that the phone is on iOS 4.2.1 (thank god for Ifunbox)but I have no idea on what baseband it is…Now once I can actually get in there I plan to jailbreak it but I need it to be unlocked to my rogers microsim cuz I plan to keep the same phone #.

If I JB with Greenpois0n I wont be able to unlock, pwnagetool 4.2 is currently mac only, jailbreakme.com is long gone so that leaves me with a Redsn0w JB to then unlock with ultrasnow 1.3 when it comes out.

Which version of redsn0w do I need? The latest one is (i think) 0.9.7b6 and I can’t seem to be able to find a valid link to the windows version of the file anywhere…

Got a new iphone 3gs 32Gb – old iphone 3gs 16Gb, maanged to JB 16Gb on 4.2.1 & was rather chuffed with myself as i am girl who has a very small amount of IT knowledge & was patiently waiting for UL.
So i loaded up 32Gb, had to do restore of 16Gb so i could get my contacts etc, off old ip on day 4.3 came out & couldn’t do FA about it & thought well i be patient again but i needed my info (rock vs hard place)…
Went into 16Gb & reset EVERYTHING on phone + delete – BANG.
16Gb is now frozen, can’t restore it in ITunes either (was forced to update that as well, gggggrrrrrr), comes up with 3194 error so i am shafted. Or is there a magic cure?

Why can’t I upgrade it

AT&T to purchase T-Mobile. Just announced today. What does this mean for upgrades? Are unlocks unnecessary for my 3G?
I had upgraded from 3.1.2 to 4.1.2 and lost GPS function. Can this now be restored if unlock for T-Mobile is no longer necessary?

Jail break now with greenpoison. There are no significant benifits In 4.3. Stay with 4.2.1 . If it’s not broke why fix it. I don’t understand why so many people are brainwashed into thinking they have to update. The ONLY thing that i was waiting for that finally came in one of the updates was Avrcp Bluetooth support so my car stereo can control my idevices. This used to really piss me off. Actually CDMA will allow talk & text, and then you can SMS to an email address, so it will do all of those at the same time. SMS uses extra spaces in the existing cellular packets sent between phone and tower. CDMA, more specifically EV-DO RevA won’t allow talk + EV-DO Data at same time, whereas current 3G version of GSM data does. I still think Verizon’s network is far inferior, and am an AT&T Customer, just wanted to clarify :)

as the 1 gen only could be updated to 3.2.1 I stopped paying attention to all the JB and unlocking tools after that,
so I’m just wondering what FW and what JB tool do people recomend me using also I need to be able to unlock this iPhone aswell

Do not update to 4.3. You can however update to 4.2.1 by downloading 4.2.1 firmware and put phone in dfu mode first. Use iTunes to update by clicking shift update and selecting the firmware u downloaded.
Step 2 jailbreak with greenpoison
Step 3 install iPad basement using redsnow
Step 4 install ultrasn0w by cydia and whalla- you are unlocked

I have an issue I need help with…the iPhone 4 I have iwas bought in japan so I’m forced to jailbreak in order for re phone to except AT&T network…however about once a week I completely lose service…almost like it can’t find AT&T anymore and it’s a big hassle to get it back. Any suggestions?
