It looks like posixninja beat Musclenerd to the punch. Green poison RC5 is out and provides an untethered jailbreak. The exploit used is already known to be patched in the upcoming 4.3 firmware so it made sense to get it released as soon as possible. Currently only the OSX version is out but a Windows version is on its way out as well. You can it from http://www.greenpois0n.com/
Note: this version does not provide hacktivation.

I’m assuming the update would kinda erase the previous jailbreak making it ok to do.

When i installed cydia the guy in the store told me not to reset,
close or reboot the phone but only when the new jailbk for 4.2.1 is

i’ve a question: i succesfully jailbreaked my iphone 4 with greenpois0on and installed cydia. I wanted to download AptBackup to reinstall my cydia apps but it can’t be found in cydia. First i thought the bigboss source isn’t installed but it is. Please can somebody help me? It will be damn much work to reinstall all cydia apps without aptbackup!

The website is beyond slammed and you are looking at an old cached copy. RC5-2 (I think) is the current version. But wait a couple days for the traffic to die down.
It feels analogous to that week long traffic jam in China they reported on a few months ago…

I was able to successfully use greenpoisOn (RC5-2) on my mac. Once installed, Loader did not work. Used latest Redsn0w to get cydia installed. Now have a working untethered jailbroken 4.2.1 iPhone 4. I downloaded from mirror.

I have a question about jailbreaking over a jailbroken device. I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.2.1 and jailbroke with redsn0w 0.9.6 rc8. Unfortunately, redsn0w was a tethered jailbreak. Now that greenpois0n is out and is an untethered jailbreak, I want untether jailbreak my iPhone 4 with iOS 4.2.1.
I have never tried jailbreaking on top of a jailbroken phone. Do I need to restore the phone back to factory settings first before I use greenpois0n? Or can I use the greenpois0n jailbreak ontop of my redsn0w jailbroken iPhone?
Any help and clarifications is very much appreciated!

I just downloaded and jailbroke my iPhone 4 – Worked as described – took me 5 minutes.

No need to restore. I was in the same boat as you. iPad tethered. You can run RC5 and it will override the tethered jailbreak. I just performed it and to make sure I rebooted my iPad from SBSettings. everything ran smoothy.

I just jailbroke my ipod4.2.1 with green poison for windows, after a few tries I got cydia to download, but there are no sources and when I try to add any, cydia quits to home or says the it can’t find the source url

Google ‘Cydia Crash Fix’ and you’ll find a step by step answer. It involves deleting some files on your iphone/pad and rebooting it.

you will have to rejailbreak with greenpois0n however as far as i know this will upgrade your baseband and lock your phone until they have updated the unlock. but once again this is as far as i know i dont reallystay up to date on iphone jailbreaks as i only have an ipod touch 2g mc and 3g
also you can let your phone die/reboot you will just need to connect it to the computer and run redsnow or whatever to keep your jailbreak

Just here to share with you ky experince with the new RC5JB.
I did my first JB with JBme.com under 3.2.1. I installed 4.2.1 on my ipad weeks ago. Today i used the new Windoof RC5 JB and i had a lot of problems, because the previous JB under 3.2.1 was not completly deletedt with the FW Update 4.2.1. i had a lot of chrashes esp. with the Ipod and Video app and with yourtubeHD. Finally i did a reset and installed the ipad completly new. Now, after a fresh JB with RC5 no problems at all beside the Teleboy app (Swiss T)V and Springboard, springboard is crashing if i watch TV and change channels to quick. Anyone else having issues with ModMyi’s APT repository timing out? I did the 4.1 to 4.2.1 update (restore and re-jailbreak), no issues. But my aptbackup restore failed because the repo is timing out. Any ideas?

What in the heck are you referring to? No copyright problems exist. In fact, legally you are in the clear because they showed that (in the US at least) you have a legal right to unlock and jailbreak your device.

I jailbroke a few iphone 3Gs before, but this time I have a big problem. I bought an iphone on ebay which was new. Now that it is stuck in a recover loop, I’m not sure if I caused this, or because I jailbreaked this with RedSnow on windows 7, but I think it was a baseband of 5.14.x I found something online that says not to jailbreak and unlock an iphone 3gs to 4.2.1 with only basebands: 01.59, 05.11.07, 04.26.08, 05.13.04, 05.12.01 and 06.15. Is this true? If so, please update the info so others won’t brick their phone like I did 1 hour ago. Can anyone help? Any ideas. Everytime I try to shift+restore, the ipsw file restore process begins, but then I get a message from itunes that says unknow error. Please help :)

@Nod – Did iTunes report Error 1013 and abort the restore? If so, did you override your hosts file to use Saurik’s server?

If you did that and had the same error message, then I had a similar problem, with an iPhone 4. I was told that to fix the problem, use tinyumbrella instead of Saurik’s server. Give that a try and let me know if that works. I had to use another method to restore my iPhone. If this method doesn’t work, I will tell you what it is – let’s just say it’s not pretty.
Hopefully this will help fix your problem. Please post your results :)

I think I found what causes it….when I deactivate Backgrounder, the AirPrint is working….so i think the Backgrounder should be modified in order to make AirPrint working….since it automatically disables multitasking….

I finally unlocked my baby yesterday with Redsn0w/Ultrasn0w/ipad baseband ect…. The phone worked great for 1 day, and I started to put all my cydia apps back. After installing iQuickRealSMS (who wasn’t recognizing the purchase I made 1 year ago), the phone freezed and stucked on reboot/apple logo for 1 hour.
I tried to restore with custom 4.1 with iTunes, but it’s failing all the time.
Questions:
- Am I supposed to restore again before redo the redsn0w jailbreak/unlock ? If yes am I supposed to use the custom 4.1 ? Or should I download a custom 4.2 ?
- Since I succeed yesterday and all was working great before that stupid accident, am I already on 6.15 baseband ? (maybe that’s why iTunes refuse to restore my custom 4.1 ?)
- Or am I supposed to just re-jailbreak straight with Redsn0w/Ultrasn0w without restoring with iTunes ?

All you have to do is add a source, i added the ig33k source and all of the sudden all the sources came back. Hope that helps.

I have 3GS, week 42 from 2009, right now i have 3.1.3 jb with spirit. I was tethered before spirit.
There are lost of apps that require 4.0 or higher that i want to have.
my firmware is 5.12, with apparently newer bootrom.
Is this JB for me to be untethered with 4.2.1?
Is a jb/ unlock being worked on that will free my newer bootrom 3GS with unlock and JB?
Please a clear answer. i looked at the chart, and to me it looks like the 3.1.3 is the best untethered jb for my 3gs, which sucks :(
