Firewall iP 1.1 adds support for Apple’s apps and more

Author: Yllier  //  Category: News

Firewall iP 1.1 has been released. It has many new features and I’m sure you’ll like them.

Changelog for 1.1

  • support for Apple’s native Applications
  • manually set global rules (you can use an asterix  ‘*’ in front of the hostname to extend the rule to all subdomains which contain the hostname (i. e. *admob.com -> xyz.admob.com)
  • each application has now it’s own switch to disable Firewall iP for it
  • big parts of the plugin have been recoded and optimized

Apple’s applications are supported. Just be careful what you allow and what not ;)

Also you can now enter global rules which will affect all apps: You can manually enter hostnames in the global Allow/Deny lists and if there is not yet a rule set for an app itself the global rule will take effect. Global Rules won’t override app specific rules. If you add an asterix “*” in front of the hostname the rule is extended to all subdomains of the host. For example *google.com in the global block list will also block xyz.google.com.

Every application has now it’s own switch that can be used to disable Firewall iP for it. This feature should help you if you encounter problems.

Last but not at least, big parts of the MobileSubstrate plugin have been recoded and optimized.

I hope you’ll like the new features and enjoy using this great little app.

PS: thanks to all customers for supporting development of Firewall iP.

    Yay! More goodies.

Works great however there is one minor problem with the new revision…Sometimes when trying to open up the phone to make a call, check voice-mail, etc it won’t fully load unless you disable Firewall IP and it’s not like any popup loads up for me to allow an ip.

  3. Yllier Says:

that’s very strange neither the beta testers nor anyone else reported that issue :( For now please manually add MobilePhone in the control app and disable Firewall iP for it (the switch on the top bar).

I’m not purchasing anymore apps from cydia that are hosted by this repo…and please don’t take it the wrong way. I love 99% of the apps you host and you do a fantastic job taking care of things for the community(i.e. your “recommended tools” is a fantastic idea especially since a lot of those utilities require a respring…HUGE time saver!!

Pogo plank is having major issues and once I feel comfortable again after that issue is resolved this will be the first app I purchase.

Please talk to your developers and find out what’s going on with the 1.2-1 update for PP.

    Thank you

I loaded up the phone and one time when it wasn’t working I just tried toggling the firewall on and off a few times with the phone app open and finally it came across asking me to allow or deny an IP, so I just went to the rules and turned firewall off for that particular application and now it seems to be fine

    Hey BigBoss,

With the recent growth in kiddie scripts targeting the ssh ‘exploit’ are you finally going to provide an option to stop OpenSSH from autostarting with every reboot (your reasonable explanations for enforcing that notwithstanding)?

  7. Yllier Says:

how is this connected to Firewall iP?

I guess you did choose the wrong article to comment in.

  8. Yllier Says:

I actually have an idea about this but the developer community doesn’t want me to play with sshd :(

Love it… just another giant leap into turning the ipod into a pocket computer! Keep up the good work.

  10. Yllier Says:

    thanks :)

  11. Optimo Says:

Why not just change your password?
If a new option is to be added, a user could just as simply change their passwords.

  12. The6uest Says:

Can this app also be used to block in-app ads?

  13. cheapfame Says:

i noticed you guys used a wildcard * before the global deny address. the app doesnt suggest this. Will it work without the *spam.com ? thanks

  14. Venkt Says:

I jave just purchased and install firewall IP and my springboard is crashing and going into safemode with a warning. I have just uninstall the firewall IP and everything works great. Please let me know how to fix this issue.

  15. Venkt Says:

Never mind, its working properly after re-install

  16. Yllier Says:

    Yes it can

  17. ET Says:

I am having issues with the Phone application loading while the firewall is enabled. It works some times and many other times it doesnt load. I tried to manually add MobilePhone as you have suggested above but I couldnt find MobilePhone in the list of applications. Can you please help?

I’m having the same problem with the iPod (Music) app and the Phone app not responding after installation. So it’s not as random as it seems or the fact that the beta testers didn’t run into this issuer doesn’t mean that doesn’t need to be investigated and fixed. It’s a paid app, so please fix it. Please let me know if you need any extra info that could help pinpoint where the issue might be originating from.

    I’m on a 3g running on firmware 3.1

Dear developed, sorry for the question, but how do I know which one of the the globalanalitics and admob i need to allow and which ones should be blocked? Are there any “universal” advice, in general which services are essential and which ones are not?

  21. Mohammed Siddique Says:

It doesn’t work with Currency Exchange Pro from APP store.

  22. Adam Says:

ET. I am having the same issues but with a app called categories. It’s a well known app that is being redesigned to be a system function as opposed to an app to make it faster and not having in the background. My problem is Categories is not listed in Firewall IP and one time I accidently clicked allow internet connection. I can’t find a way to disallow it as it needs to be able to see the app in order to add it to firewall IP and turn off internet connection. I will be writing to bigboss and asking for a solution to this or asking for a refund.
