Firewall iP 1.40 – more powerful and better

Author: Yllier  //  Category: News

Firewall iP, the first and only Firewall for the iPhone, got an update to 1.40 A lot of stuff has been improved.

Changelog 1.40:

  • port blocking: now you can extend rules to only block for a specific port. Simply by adding “:portnumber” to the hostname or by using the selector in the popup (example: facebook.com:80). if you tap on the (i)-button on the popup you’ll be shown a list of the most common ports. for more information take a look at this: http://bit.ly/9Dvtga. You might want to delete all rules (there is now a button in the About View) or manually edit the rules.
  • Allow/Deny all sess.: Allow/Deny all connections until you exit the app (or in case of Safari: Safari goes into backgrounding)
  • now based on Regex. This should offer a faster and better experience.
  • -import lists: you can now import lists into global Allow and global Deny. For that simply put a txt file with hostnames/rules (each one gets it’s own line) into /Applications/FirewallGUI.app/Lists/ and then import it from the global Allow/Deny views. The content of the txt should look like this:*google.comfacebook.com:80 xyz.com
  • fixed issues with some universal apps which could cause a crash of the application
  • improved startup of the app
  • won’t recognize taps on popup for one second after the popup has appeared: to reduce accidental selections
  • reduced memory footprint of the app
  • support for Preferences.app and SpringBoard (be careful which connections you deny)
  • improved documentation (via the about view)

Firewall iP is the only security app of it’s kind and offers many advance features like getting WhoIs-informations about the host. Block outgoing TCP & UDP connections selectively, with port-specific-blocking Shows you the hostname for the connection & can provide you with WhoIs information Block connections of apps when you are on a cellular network Block analytic providers / data collectors which PrivaCy can’t Block unneeded content (ads ;)) Easy to use interface & control app and many more…. Firewall iP is available in the CydiaStore for only $2.49 (will soon rise to $2.99)

Is it the release candidate again ? If not, I’ve still got FW IP 1.40Beta1 available on the repo :(

  2. Kaushal Dalmond Says:

No. This is final version. You have to remove the RC version first. Then you install Firewall iP version 1.40.

And it should show Firewall iP version 1.40 (Final) on BogBoss’s repo. No RC on that repo.

Sorry for the typo! *BigBoss’s repo! Sorry BigBoss!

“-won’t recognize taps on popup for one second after the popup has appeared: to reduce accidental selections”

That’s something I’m happy to see because I accidentally pressed selections many times and didn’t always know which one I pressed!

    @Kaushal: Sorry but you’re wrong:

1/ BigBoss repo is not available while I’m typing at this time ;)

2/ The “Final” verson hasn’t been released yet by Yllier actually

    Take care,

    Macfr3ak

When will 1.4 be available on Rock? I’d get it on Cydia but I already got it from Rock soon after the original release.

  7. Yllier Says:

I submitted it the same day as to BigBoss. but they are sometimes very slow :( I hope it will be available soon.

If only it weren’t for the terrible, terrible interface.
