It looks like Geohot has announced that he has a working jailbreak for 3.1.3 which he plans to release on the next major release (3.2 or iPad or such, not 3.1.3). The really good news for us all is that it is untethered which means all of you out there with the new tethered bootrom will be able to get a real jailbreak in the next few weeks. Of course we will announce here when it is out.
For more info and a funny video demonstrating it, you can view Geohots blog.
Of course, it won’t be released for 3.1.3. Since 3.1.3 is so worthless, there is no point giving Apple another exploit to close until after the next release is out that is actually worth something.

I /really/ hope no one wastes a jailbreak on 3.1.3 in the next few weeks. those who upgraded to 3.1.3 “accidentally” should have to wait. It will teach them to have patience and not to upgrade first and ask questions later…
Thanks for all you do, BigBoss..! and just curious, have you ever worked on bootrom exploits? I know youve done your fare share of iPhone hacking (esp. Categories & SBSettings!).
P.S.
Also, (off topic) ive been trying to theme the image /var/mobile/Library/SBSettings/respring.png (the 320×480 image) but I can’t figure it out with Winterboard.
Thanks again!

I doubt even George would release a 3.1.3. jb. I am worried though because of his past fallout with the dev-team.

Is it just me or is everything upside down on his iphone?

I can’t wait for this to come out. Is this jailbreak going to support OS 3.1.3 or not? I’m sorry if it’s obvious and I just missed it somehow. I’ve always been jailbroken until my new 3GS with new bootrom and OS 3.1.3:

Awsome already jailbroken but tethered sucks way to go gethot

Do we know when 3.2 is coming out yet? I just upgraded to a 3GS. It came preinstalled with 3.1.3. I never upgrade when a release first comes out, but I didn’t think to check if 3.1.3 had been broken before I bought the new phone. I probably would have bought the 3GS anyway, but I really miss the features I had on my jailbroken 3G.

My best guess is we will have this jailbreak in the first 2 weeks of april, seeing as how the iPad is shipping April 3rd (a day after my b-day :D)
So that would mean were to get this jailbreak between April 1st to April 14th.

Would be cool if the jailbreak works on the iPad too! Being able to jailbreak an iPad would certainly increase my chance of getting one. If it wasn’t for jailbreaking on the iPhone, I would have chosen a different phone.

Yea I’m pretty sure this will boost sales for apple in the long run,
The only problem is, Apple is losing money on each iPad being sold, and their only renue is from the app store (besides iPod and iPhone sales), so then again, they aren’t gaining on of this, since most jailbroken devices contain pirated apps.

Why are they losing money ?

they are selling it for *2 till *4 of the hardwar cost..

there will be none or maybe you have to wait little longer or maybe for fw 3.2
if you accidentally update it, moral lesson is, read first before doing an update. as big boss said, fw 3.1.3 is useless.

i hope they come out with a jailbreak soon..my iphone pooped out and i had to replace it and to my surprise it was os 3.1.3…titties.

I wish he would wait until iPhone 4G to publish the jailbreak. 3GS owners won’t mind waiting a nother month or two, same with iPad owners. If they fix the exploit between iPad and 4G then we’ll all be screwed when we go to upgrade.

That’s good news for 3.1.3 users. It’s too bad Geohot has pissed off bunch of Linux using PS3 owners though via Sony’s actions :(

Can’t wait I am stock on 3.1.3 thank you

The assumption that everyone who updated to 3.1.3 did it ‘accidentally’ is wrong. A lot of people , like me , had ‘no choice’ when one fine day the iphone 3gs stopped booting past the apple logo with jailbroken 3.1.2 firmware.
The option of changing the hosts file etc etc was apparent much later.
