iPad 2 jailbreak released

Author: BigBoss  //  Category: Jailbreak, News

The iPad2 jailbreak is released tonight by Comex. This is a new PDF exploit that you can apply directly on your ipad by going to jailbreakme.com. Once the jailbreak runs, you will have a Cydia icon and a complete untethered jailbreak. This site can be used for all 4.3.3 devices not just ipad 2. If you are already jailbroken with Redsn0w, no need to jailbreak again, you are set.

Bigboss personal note: (no disrespect to Comex intended) While this seems like a great thing for everyone, in my opinion it is not. I would have liked to have seen this exploit held. Here’s why. The community probably had a free run until iOS5. Meaning, i0nic’s exploit was good for all devices except iPad 2. But Apple is focused on ios5 so they probably would not have released a 4.3.4 or 4.4. iOS 5 being due in September, that would have given every one another 2 months of freely jailbreaking any firmware. However, due to the nature of this being a PDF exploit that can be applied directly in Safari, Apple will have to immediately release an updated firmware to patch this exploit. That update will also have patched i0nic’s exploit. So I predict that within a week or so, we will have no more untethered jailbreak for the newest firmwares. Therefore, make sure you all load cydia and save your SHSH off so you can restore 4.3.3 if you ever need to again. And to the a$#@#$ that leaked the PDF exploit early, you basically gave Apple a 5 day head start on patching. Thanks.

  1. voltaek Says:

comex was forced to release now rather than wait /because/ of the leak, otherwise he probably wouldve held it til iOS 5

  2. Jay Says:

I may be mistaken, but I recall this exploit was no longer exploitable in iOS 5. That is why comex has been more concerned with the shorter deadline rather than loosing an exploit for iOS5.

  3. BigBoss Says:

Based on my personal discussion with Comex prior to the leak, he was not planning to hold this release to iOS5.

Question, i have Jb my IP4 on jailbreakme.com and now i’m trying to download SBSetting but it keeps saying server down, host unreachable. Is the server down because of many people now downloading stuff form bigboss

  6. Anupam Says:

Did as mentioned and now have icons on my iPad2 half the size. Does not open any application – goes into reboot. Have to restore again ! Duh !
I did download a few Cydia apps – last one was winterboard.

  7. Anonymous Says:

I’m fairly certain that bug was still available in iOS 5. Now, however, it is certain to be patched.

  8. Mark Says:

I need an unlock. Is it still possible to use ultrasnow after update to 4.3.3 an applying the JB?

    thx Mark

  9. Scott Says:

I am having the same issue. And yeah, I would think that it’s only because so many people are connecting to the bigboss repo. I say wait a while, and all should be well again soon enough.

  10. Josh Says:

I’m pretty sure you would still have to use Sn0wbreeze to update to 4.3.3. Make sure you double check though!

  11. ken Says:

sorry bigboss, i have to disagree with you. i’m with geohot on this… when you find a usable exploit, you release it. if apple patches it, then you find another one. that’s just how the game is played. there’s no point in withholding it for months as apple would patch it anyway.

  12. ChaoticMayhem65 Says:

Well in my personal opinion this was a good move by comex. The only iDevice that was not jailbroken now is.I’m sure the master of userland exploits will pull another rabbit out of his hat come iOS 5

  13. Wolfgang Says:

Hey there, Im kind of confused. I have an iPad 2 3G on iOS 4.3 (8F191) and when I go to install Cydia my dvice restarts and Cydia never appears. Any answers would be appreciated.

  14. Juan Says:

Jailbreakme.com, at this time, only jailbreaks 4.3.3 and no other version. Comex said he may add support for previous version at a later time.

So, if you’re not at 4.3.3, update and then jailbreak.

    =)

  21. Jo Says:

Same case. I have jb my ipad2. and now unable to add the apt.thebigboss.org.

  22. Martin Says:

Works fine on my iPad 2 with 4.3 on it.

  23. dani Says:

Some cydia tweaks are not install on my iPad 2,, what reason of this,,, pleased guide this.

  24. FrankBlack Says:

Agreed! What’s the point in holding back especially given where things sit currently:
    - New iOS5 around the corner and this JB would not have worked on it
    - New device/s around the corner and this JB would not have worked on them
    - And why keep the millions of iPad 2 users’ hanging only to loose the window when IOS5 launches?
    - As an app dev the stance should be “if its baked, get it out” so that new users can bring in profits
    - As an app dev the stance should be “if its baked, get it out” and then work on the next exploit

  25. Crumb Says:

Apple is probably going to release a new 4.3.4 firmware patching the exploit, but saying something generic like “Fixes AirPlay for iPad users”

  26. Crumb Says:

Reply to dani: Some tweaks may not be installed or are “missing” because either the repo is down or the tweak isn’t conpatible with your device. Simple terms, some tweaks won’t work for an iPad 2

  27. Bento Says:

I installed cydia in my ipad2 successfully but still can’t download apps. What should i do after install cydia? Should i install others apps inside cydia? Pls help as i am brand new with this kind of things

  28. Saeed Says:

    Ok

  29. Bundle Says:

Yes, inside Cydia on your iPad you can explore different apps. Some are free, some not. You can install app directly inside Cydia once you’ve decided you want something. Cydia allows you to search, view what you’ve installed, as well as uninstall.

  30. Vanessa Says:

After installing a few aps thru installous I noticed all my apps that were on there before I jail broke the iPad 2 were no longer launching. They just open for a split second then bring u back to the home screen. But I check n it’s running in the background. Any solutions. I updated to 4.3 then jail broke it . It’s an ipad2

  31. Hannah13 Says:

iPhone offers a variety of functions for iPhone applications to be developed in a way that allows the user to use all the functions at the same time. However, developers must remember that the characteristics are well balanced between applications. Otherwise, forced to migrate awkward and never meet the expectations of the target audience.
