Apple has released 3.1.2. DO NOT UPDATE. This is another worthless update, there is no jailbreak yet, etc.
This claims to fix these issues:
- Fixes an intermittent issue where iPhones may not wake from sleep (some users called this coma mode.
- Fixed an intermittent issue that could interfere with cellular network services and require a restart
- Fixed a bug that could cause a crash while streaming video.
I have never experienced any of these issues.

What time and energy? If you think you can do better than Apple and the iPhone…go and make your own phone/computer company. Else – trust the company that supplies the best on the market and if they say you need an up-date….you need an up-date.

my iPhone does get into coma mode sometimes…
but a restart does fix it.
I’m in the wait for the new jailbreak, but until its out, there’s no hurry.

@David: as long as you don’t need a jailbreak and/or Unlock, you may be right. But seeing you are here on a site that focuses on jailbreak, the recommendation nit to upgrade is the right one.

Im fresh out of nest on all this jailbreak, cydia and winterboard stuff. but after a few hours of reading up on it all (hats off to you BigBoss, thanks), i cant wait start loading up new icons and better ringtones.
i have firmware 3.1.2… so where do i go from here? keep looking on this site till news of a jailbreak is available? when the gods create a new one, will it be available on this site?
nearly got scammed last night but spotted in the small print the number change from 3.1 to 3.0 when entering my card details.

I wonder if this “cellular network” bug is related to the problem with the SBSettings EDGE toggle on 3.x. Hope so. For me the toggle works with T-Mobile USA, but not AT&T (factory unlocked 3G).

Just because you haven’t had any of the problems listed doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Apple replaced my phone after 3.1 because of the coma issue. Now I am happily (mostly) running JB 3.0 on a new phone (3G). Of course I say “mostly because I’m having problems listening to voice mail…

I didn’t have the issue with streaming video but I had the issue where I would have to restart my phone for service. I also got hit by the coma mode. It was so much of a problem that I had to update just to get my phone to work correctly. Just waiting for the next jailbreak.

Has anyone experience the phone actually turning off? Or like coma mode?
I had the problem a few times on my 3G and i would have to charge my phone,funny thing is that the phone was half near full charge already,but the last time this happened i noticed the battery icon never changing.
Anyhow,i am sure most updates are worthless,but to maybe 1 in million phones it affects.

I wouldnt say one in a million because it happened to my roomate. His phone would go into coma mode several times a day and he would have to reboot it over and over. It sounds like a common problem that was addressed with an update. They should have labeled it as “Use only if needed” instead of useless because it is NOT useless at all!

hey all has an unlock for 3.1 come out yet i’ve jailbroken the phone but my sin is buggered on 3.1 my bootloader is 5.09, and my baseband in ICE2-05.11.07. i really don’t want to have to carry around two phones for too much longer.

hi guys i need serious on thursday my phone just stop working and cannot working or turn on i try everything nothing works whatsoever and i have to do something because this is the only phone i have so i went to devteam blog and download the 3.1 and 3.0 firmware but the 3.0 wouldn’t work for me when i go to dfu mode so i went to dfu mode install 3.1 and it works but i cannot jailbreak my iphone i’m screw most like it i have to wait and i have 3gs any suggestion what can i do i miss my iphone..

I mean, come on, the guys with all the free time (Dev-Team, Geohot) will get to this JB sometime. If you haven’t JB’d by now, and 3.0.1 or less is on your 3gs, you should update if you have issues wtih the coma that these effers go into after a few days.
I have 3.1, updating to 3.1.1 now, and still, they boys with all that free time, they will get a real 3.1x JB done in sometime.
I wish they would put out a Windowz JB and get that stick out of their AppleButts. I mean, come on, not all bow down to apple, I don’t think they do, as they JB these closed computing apple phones… so why not make a windowz (eff it–linux) fix…. just my 2cents.

DO NOT PAY FOR ANYTHING. I repeat do not pay for anything. The Jailbreak community puts out all of this for nothing. Free for all of us. Once you have done the jailbreak and have installed Cydia, and winterboard you will find tons of new things to do with the almighty iPhone. Now once you have installed this there are some applications that require a few dollars but again the majority of all this stuff is free. Feel free to donate to the developer if you would like.

I love my HackediPhone 1st. Gen. running firmware 3.0.1 with no issues.
I believe all of these so called coma issues and loss of service issues that require a reboot stem from the 3.1 firmware and or the iPhone 3Gs. I have not encountered any of these issues on my 1st gen iPhone.

My 3Gs, 3.1 with JB – day after update had the coma issue, 3G 3.1 JB from my daugher – the same.
So the 3.1.2 is a very welcome one.
Btw, 3Gs got with 3.1 finally Voice Controll over Blutooth headset, so don’t tell me 3.1 was useless.

I hope the Dev Team release the 3.1 JB OS asap. Yesterday when I synced my phone and downloaded some application updates, iTunes removed 4 of my important applications telling me that those Apps requires 3.1 OS.

I totally agree with BIGBOSS, if he believes that the update is “useless” meaning that the update doesn’t bring enough to the table to pursue a jailbreak at this time, then thats what we, as users should understand. Please try and understand that BIGBOSS has a life away from this site and a job like all of us, and if he decides that the time is not worth the results, then we should be patient.

the second day i had the network issue (received no calls or texts for maybe 10 hours and didn’t know why until somebody contacted me via IM and asked what was going on.
the next day i had coma mode, but it’s only happened once

Have tried it on two desktops two is and a lap top even gave it to a friend who did his 3g and it still crashed on his originall I started whith purple ra1n then red snow with the 3.0 update but no luck

Apple doesn’t say you NEED the update, it just says the update is available. It’s up to the user to determine if any of the “fixes” or “enhancements” are useful, needed, or even desirable… many updates offer no benefits to users whatsoever, and since there are no benefits those users have no need or desire to perform the update on their perfectly well functioning phones as is the case here…

OK…that sucked. Must’ve hit the enter key.
Anyways, I’m experiencing the first and second issues and WILL apply the update. This has been happening since v3.1 and is extremely annoying. I’ve missed important calls from my family because of this issue.
We’ll see if the fixes actually work, but I don’t know how you think these issues will be fixed without some type of patch. Just because you haven’t experienced these issues don’t mean they don’t exist. If you don’t think you’ve an issue, don’t apply the patch, but to assume that the patch is useless to the masses.

Since I updated my 3GS to v3.1.2 my battery drains so fast. I can even watch it drains from the springboard meter. What is wrong with 3.1.2. Sometimes, its almost red when I get up in them morning after I fully charged it the night before.
This is so frustrating. I removed SBSettings and unjailbroken and put it back, restored it from iTunes and and its still draining as it was before, BAD…. Anything you know about please?
