For those of you that cant wait, there is a 3gs pwnage jailbreak for 4.0 devices. There are stipulations though so pay attention before you try it:
1) Pwnage is MAC ONLY
2) You must have an older bootrom. That means you could jailbreak 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 without being tethered.
3) You must already have a pwned device running 3.1.3 or lower. If you do not, you will have to downgrade your 4.0 device first, pwn it, and then you can use the pwnage to jailbreak your 4.0. Once more, if you restored 4.0 in iTunes, you cannot use this method without downgrading first. (Downgrade instructions are here).
4) You must have pwned your device using redsn0w or pwnage. Spirit does not count!
5) This is not for any other device than a 3gs on older bootrom.
6) There are a lot of extensions that are not yet updated to work on 4.0 so don’t expect it to be all smooth sailing yet! This is for early adopters only.
If your device does not meet the criteria above, you will need to wait for a new jailbreak tool. Please dont ask about it. It will be ready when it’s ready and will not be until after dev team members have the iphone 4 in hand.

What if you use spirit jailbreak will the following work: restore to 1.1.3 then pwn it then upgraded to 4.0 using the method mentioned here. Please let me know?

Grrr… got everything up and running… except SB Settings doesn’t launch… activator doesn’t show up in settings… backgrounder still has a 3.1.3 or lower dependency. I thought all of these apps were supposed to have been ready and updated for the iOS 4 launch.

Pulled an all niter trying to downgrade 4.0 to 3.1.3. And back to 4.0 jailbreak. I meet all of the requirements since I bought my 3GS the day it came out. I managed to downgrade but but can’t get past the “device to USB ” in pwnage. Therfore I can’t install cfw since I previously jailbroke with blackrain. Thanks

SBSettings 3.0.13 works great but the Wi-Fi ip address is wrong. I am able to go into Settings and under Wi-fi Networks I can see the proper IP address and connect via that.

hopefully someone here can help me, I have a 3gs jailbroken for the first time with spirit. i just installed ultrasnow 0.93 from cydia. So my question is, am i now unlocked? If so how do i know and how do i use it with verizion?

You can’t use any iphones on the Verizon CDMA network at this time. Until Apply makes a CDMA iphone or Verizon switches to GSM, your scenario is not possible.

If ultra snow is installed than ur unlocked. If u have any doubts than take ur mothers sim card and pop it in ur iphone. Try to make a call. Its not rocket science. Very simple. Good luck!

BigBoss & Crew I would first like to ty all 4 taking time out of your busy lives to make this possible for all of us. I have a 3G 3.1.3 & I got everything working properly, but I installed something while on Cydia & now for some reason it won’t let me open Cydia @ all. You can’t just create jailbreaks, older devices can be jailbroken first because they have the 24kpwn exploit that works regardless of the firmware, currently there is no bootrom exploit for newer devices although apparently GeoHot has a tethered one in the works

So I have 3.1.2 on my 3GS that I got last Fall. I used blackrain when I got it as well.
What are my current options as far as upgrading to 4.0 and Jailbreaking or did I read it right that there is no jailbreak to do this yet.

Hey, I just jailbroke my 3Gs from 3.1.2 (previously jailbroken with Blackra1n) and upgraded to 4.0 by using Sn0wbreeze. To unlock it I went through Cydia, but please check you have the right baseband (05.11.07), cause the unlock only works with that! Add source http://cydia.pushfix.info in cydia and install Blacksn0w RC2 and it’s unlocked! :)Hope that helps! x Julie x
