Attention all jailbreakers (hopefully this is everyone).
Comex has announced that he’s not waiting for 4.1 for his next jailbreak. So make sure you save your SHSH for 4.0.1 in Cydia or using firmware umbrella. Note also that as of 4.0, 3g devices also verify with apple before restoring. While there are other ways around a downgrade for 3g devices, you should also save your SHSH’s to be safe.
If you want to save your SHSH using firmware umbrella, grab it here.
If you want to use Cydia, even if you haven’t jailbroken yet, you can alternatively restore your device using saurik’s server (instructions here) and this will automatically put in an immediate SHSH request.
The firmware umbrella method is probably your easiest method and the one I recommend. Make sure you set it to Cydia on the advanced settings page so that you get it into Cydia this way. Whether or not you save the local file is up to you. (Probably a good idea, but I dont bother).

Not sure why he’s announcing this now. Most of us aren’t even on 4.0, because it can’t be jailbroken. And the 4.0 hasn’t been released yet, so how can we save our shsh blobs now, unless we want to give up on our jailbreak? Blah.

If you bothered to read anything you’d realize you can get the ecid shsh for current firmware without having to be jailbroken or on that firmware.

Amen, dude. I’m not exactly a Newbie here, but I didn’t understand the full concept/potential of Firmware Umbrella. But now I am a little more knowledgable about it. Also, some of these people who are quick to blast other people for questions need to remember they were once Newbies too. Also, on other forums, people can actually be banned for blasting people like that.

Your right I was a newbie too. But you know what I have a brain, my eyes work and I can read English. My attention span isn’t so short that I can make it through a read me and follow the simple directions.
Most people are just too damn lazy to read anything.

Still, you have to upgrade to 4.0 or 4.01 without a way to jailbreak(!) and _hope_ that there will be a JB release soon, in order to get 4.0x SHSHs.
I guess that’s why many users (incl. myself) have not yet upgraded their jailbroken 3.1.3 or whatever FW to 4.0x.

Tiny Umbrella is a software that runs both on Win and Mac. It allows you to conect yoir iPhone regardless of iOS version or if it is jailbroken, read ECID string and than save SHSH (locally and/or on Cydia server) for iOS version that is being currently signed by Apple. Right now, you can only get this to work with version 4.0.1. If you did not do it for previous versions than it is too late. The s/w is easy to use but it can have some minor issues on Win 7 or OS X SL. Read thoroughly the instractons on dev’s blog. Good luck!

I’m on a 3GS jb on 3.1.3, but I was able to save both my 4.0 and 4.0.1 SHSHs w/o being on either of those firmwares.
You just have to use the Firmware Umbrella.

how can we save 4.0.1 SHSH on a iPod touch? iPod touch did not get the 4.0.1 update, and on the TinyUmbrella website it said it is too late to get 4.0 SHSH on ANY device.
So how are iPod touch users going to save their SHSH if they are not compatible with 4.0.1, and the window to get 4.0 SHSH blobs has passed?

I saved my shsh on my 3gs with umbrealla in the advance setting . But there is no listing for my 3g iphone under the advance section in umbrella . ONLY see ipod3g and 3gs and ipad. Anyone no how to use unbrella for just the 3g .

Turismo raises a good point. I am totally new to all of this so forgive me if it’s a silly question, but how DOES it work if they did not move the Itouch to 4.0.1? I snagged the shsh for it, but due to timing was too late for the others versions. I’m jailbroken now on 3.1.3. Do I have to wait until they move the Itouch to 4.0.1 to safely do anything?

Hi,
I jailbroken yesterday evining my Iphone 3GS 323GB.
I used Spirit, also i used umbrella to save SHSH in cydia server.
I noted something strange when i saved my SHSH via umbrella.
Today i tried to resave again the SHSH to track the msgs:
When i connected the device she was recognized with IOS 3.1.3 BB 5.12.01 i clicked the save SHSH button and Cydia replied with SHSH saved for IOS 4.0/4.0.1
Using the advanced options i tried to modify to 3.1.3 but when i retried to save the cydia server replied with save failed for IOS 3.1.3…
It was my first time that i tried to jailbreak my device and i haven’t any previous SHSH saved on cydia.
How to re-allign the IOS 3.1.3 with SHSH for the same version on cydia?
Must I pass to IOS 4.0.1?
I hope in any reply.

Hi guys. Sorry if I annoy anyone, but I am using a 3gs iphone on 4.0. my phone is factory unlocked so I did not have to unlock it. Previously I had jb it using spirit on 3.1.2 and I had saved my SHSH in Cydia. Now do I have to upgrade to 4.0.1 in order to JB it? and do I have to save my SHSH again using firmware umbrella. Thank you.

Actually, as far as I know, there is no stable jailbreak for the 3GS. I suggest upgrading to 3.1.3 and using Spirit to jailbreak. Wait until someone creates a stable jailbreak for it and then upgrade and store your SHSHs with Cydia or umbrella.

Not sure where to post this but it seemed like the logical choice as this is about the 4.0.1 firmware. I’m trying to jailbreak my 3g for the first time. It has the 4.0.1 firmware and yet every time I try to use the redsn0w_win_0.9.5b5-5 and the 4.0.1 firmware restore it keeps saying unable to recognize specified IPSW. Can anybody help with this problem? Much appreciated

wolfi and iamse7en… you two are both incorrect. which i guess would make you morons. you do not need to be on a specific firmware to obtain shsh blobs for it. you don’t even have to be jailbroken. just do some research on the topic – or like BigBoss said just get TinyUmbrella and use it. just like Rajiv said, he’s on 3.1.3 but has saved shsh blobs for 4.0 and 4.0.1… then, stop spewing incorrect information.

I had the same problem took me like 3 days to figure out that my problem was windows 7.I thought just for the *ell of it i would try it on my xp pro and it worked like a charm.I don’t know if this helps but it was my experiance.

Forgot to mention but you use 4.0 not 4.0.1 even though you have 4.0.1 on your device.
