ScreenDimmer 1.20 has been released. It is now offering you the option to set different time intervals for dimming the screen and turning off the backlight. Also, apps with disabled idleTimer won’t lock anymore if you allow them to dim.
if you don’t know about ScreenDimmer:
ScreenDimmer allows you to save battery life by automatically dimming your device’s screen after a pre-defined time; or if you wish by turning the backlight off.
Most users suffer unnecessary battery drain while having their iPhone not on standby. Setting auto-lock to a short time makes it better, but is an inconvenience most of the time due to permanent locking and unlocking while waiting for something.
ScreenDimmer is the solution for this problem: Save battery life by reducing the backlight to a minimum if the device hasn’t been used for a pre-defined time and reduce the waste of the most energy consuming component, the backlight, of the iPhone or iPod.
Free yourself from worrying about locking your device
Brought to you by the developers of 3G Unrestrictor and Firewall iP.
Features:
- Longer battery life

- Ability to exclude apps from dimming

I’ve been noticing a bug since I installed the last update. Though for the most part it seems to work well, on 4 occasions today my phone screen dimmed prematurely and shut off. When I would hit the home or top button the screen would remain dark. If I wait about 20 seconds before trying to wake up the device it operates normally.
I have syslog installed. Could I email it and have you take a look?

I just cannot get this to work. 3gs, 3.12. Have rebooted, reinstalled, turned off advanced preferences. I have pro switcher and lock calendar installed, could these be an issue? As it is, the screen is just nit dimming, and neither will the back light turn off.

Great update! I was thinking about requesting the feature to turn the backlight off after a certain time interval.

I installed this app yesterday and I love it, but my screen dim when I charce my phone (3G running OS 3.1.2). I have tried to disable and enable the feature, and Disabled and enabled ScreenDimmer.
I allso had the same problem as Navec245, but that was gone after i turned off and on the Turn off Backlight feature ;-)

Same problem with me… its still dimming while charging…..
has anyone solved this yet?

Same here – the screen dims while charging regardless of that toggle being disabled (3GS, 3.1.2) Reinstalling the app doesn’t resolve the issue.

love it!
however, lately i’ve been crashing whenever i try to access the “Excluded Apps” list. doesn’t crash in “Dim Apps with disbled idleTimer” though (yes, the typo exists in the app as well, fyi :P).
any ideas on what’s happening, and how to fix it?

I have the “disable” on for while it’s plugged it and it still dims. Used to work in the older version but the new one killed it.

I think a nice feature would be a time of day setting to set the screen brightness.
I have my phone sit in a dock facing me in my car. At night it’s far too bright (Apples auto-dim doesn’t do anything to help). I’d like to be able to set it so after 6:00pm it turns down the brightness, and then up again at 6:00am.
Anyone else have this problem?

never mind, i fixed it myself. figured it had to have been a problem with the list of apps, so i installed an app from the App Store and an app from Cydia (that has an icon). no longer crashes when i try to access the “Excluded Apps” list.
