If you are in America, please read this and go sign this form. It seems AT&T, Comcast, and the likes have paid off a lot of officials in congress. This will impact everyone. With this bill, it may be in our future that google.com no longer works and is instead redirected to att.com’s own search engine. That sort of thing must be stopped.
Congress just sold you out to Comcast and AT&T. Seventy-four House Democrats and 37 Senate Republicans just signed their names to industry letters telling the FCC to halt efforts to protect Internet users and prevent phone and cable companies from blocking Internet traffic.
Almost every one of these elected officials has accepted massive contributions from the phone and cable lobby. In exchange, they are handing control of the Internet to companies that can’t be trusted to protect the public interest.
Speak out against this unethical behavior. Sign this letter to demand that Congress and the FCC stand with the people they represent and support an open and affordable Internet for everyone.

Is this about net neutrality? I’m sorry, but the way to have open internet is to allow the businesses to do what they want. Having government bureaucrats get involved into this business will only screw the little guy more in the end. They are always swayed by political reasons. Real reform is to remove any regulations and barriers to entry for new firms to enter the ISP market. That way competition keeps the companies honest to cater to consumer needs. The FCC or Congress won’t give a rat’s ass about you. Just look at what they’ve done to so many markets. This is not Open Internet to have the FCC or Congress tell ISPs how to run their business. I understand some people live in areas where there is a monopoly and you don’t have a choice in the matter… but that can and will change. Competition and the free market will solve our problems, not government bureaucrats. Trust me. The unintended consequences of letting government have a say in an ISP’s business is a long-term disaster. Look, I want freedom as well. And it’s crap how some of these ISPs screw us over, but free-market competition is what we should be asking for, not greater oversight and regulation.
Don’t sign this damn petition!

Also, I should add the very fact that Congress and FCC have a SAY in how the ISPs run their business is the reason why AT&T and Comcast is spending so much money trying to use government to their advantage. If government wasn’t so involved in this market in the first place, they’d be figuring out how to cater to your needs, rather than using government to benefit themselves. They do all they can to make it harder for other companies to enter the market or hurt smaller companies by lobbying for government rules and regulations that make it harder for smaller or potential companies from succeeding in the isp market. If government didn’t have the power to even have a say in the matter, they’d be spending their lobbying money more wisely on how to cater to consumer needs. It’s in Comcast and AT&T’s interest to pay off Congress – you would too if you were the CEO. But the real solution is getting government out of the market and letting free-market dynamics work to create a more free, open, and affordable internet.

This is what I was thinking as well.. I don’t want anyone telling me what I can and can not look up on the internet.. It needs to be open for peeps to beside if they wanna go to a website or not.. Not gonna sign this!! KEEP IT OPEN
May 26th, 2010 at 10:13 pm
Well then you should sign it if you don’ t want you ISP to be able to redirect your traffic or “tell you” where you can and can’t go on the Internet.
On the other hand, if you think the ISP should be free to run their business without government restrictions or interference (this would include the freedom to block or redirect your traffic to their websites) the you should not sign it.
There are valid points on both sides of the issue, but based on your statement – you’d want to sign it.

No, my argument is that since I want open internet, I will NOT sign the petition. I’m not sure where KidRicky stands, or if he understands my reasoning, but allowing government to have say on what is allowed or not allowed by private businesses sets us up for a long-term disaster. The real reform is to remove rules, regulations, and barriers that prevent the formation of more ISP companies. If there is a free market with competition, then Comcast MUST not throttle your connection, or they’d lose your service. I understand that what Comcast and AT&T want to do is stupid – I don’t want that either, but the solution is NOT government bureaucrats. In order to give us, the consumer, the power, we need a free market with competition. Free market competition will drive down prices and increase our speeds as the companies discover new ways to save costs so that they compete for our business. If AT&T decides to block google, everyone would cancel their subscription and get another ISP. That is real power. Having the government say, “you cannot do that” might seem like a simple fix right now, but I guarantee it will lead to long-term troubles with unintended consequences. And they will only make more rules. Whereas with free market competition, we not only prevent companies from screwing us, but prices will go down and quality will go up. Win-win.
Screw this petition. Give the consumers the power, not the FCC or Congress.

Does anyone have a link that shows this “industry letter,” or other specific information which we can reference? I’m all for net neutrality, but I’d like to make sure I know what exactly we’re talking about before I get all fired up and write vaguely worded emails to congressmen.

Just a note: this site has many of those unlock your iphone quick and easy ads. You really should block these specific ads, especially on a site like this.

#8 & #9: That’s why you say screw you to both parties and vote for the true defenders of liberty.
You can bet your ass I’m voting for Ron Paul in 2012. Having foreseen the entire financial collapse years before it happened, he’s more equipped than all the other idiots running for Prez. Bush was awful, but Obama is even worse. Continuing the awful wars, controlling more of the economy, taxing us to pay for a growing welfare state, and encouraging the Fed to print our way out of a debt crisis.

I dont know if anyone has told you or if you just cant let it go, but Bush, he aint Prez no mo!
Lets start living in the now & the now is, you DO NOT want any government having any say over the internet.
The Chief Diversity Officer of the FCC, Mark LLoyd, is a socialist who thinks Chavez is a wonderful guy for the way he controlled free speech in his country.
Is that really what you want here?

Im surprised that this site is backing Net Neutrality!?
Jesus, youll never get the truth if the government gets their hands on the internet. Can you say Venezuela.
Our Freedom, Capitalistic loving government (sarcasm!) will shut down the internet in a flash if they deem it a threat.
If you dont know yet, Eric Schmidt CEO of Google is working with/advising this administration to make Net Neutrality happen.
Please Higher Power, wake people up…
