Edit (Apr 15): Thank you to your feedback, I have fixed 3 categories bugs you guys reported in email: 1) Blue arrow gone and cant edit folders (fixed), 2) Crash when selecting icon (fixed) 3) Crash when icon theme with no icons in it is present (fixed). I have also removed all the debug output from libhide and updated that as well. Currently, Categories will still respring when adding a new folder, renaming a folder, or removing a folder. But hiding icons and adding icons into the folder can be done with no respring.
Libhide is the underlying library used to hide icons for many applications including SbSettings, Poof, Categories, and even Winterboard. (There are others). Many of you have this installed and may not know what it is.
I have updated libhide adding the following long awaited features:
1) Hiding apps no longer impacts their performance in other apps. For example, hiding mail will no longer remove the settings pane mail settings. Hiding youtube will no longer cause embedded youtube videos to stop showing up in safari. This was one of the main reported issues with Categories app when people would move mail or youtube into a folder. Special thanks to developer Dustin Howett for helping me with this.
2) Hiding apps and unhiding apps no longer require a respring. To this end, I have created a new sbsettings, poof, and categories that properly use libhide with these changes.
I have been testing this for a few days myself, but since libhide has so many installs, I would like to get some stronger testing in before releasing it. Therefore, I have added the new libhide v2.0.6, categories, poof, and sbsettings updates to my beta repository. The only changes in categories, poof, and sbsettings are to support the new libhide no respring mode when hiding icons. For categories, this includes adding and removing folder icons. For sbsettings this includes adding and removing icons to the dock.
Note to firmware 2.x users: Thanks to Apple’s lame practices when installing the 4.0 SDK and the 3.2 ipad SDK, I can no longer build for 2.x operating systems. Therefore, if you have 2.x, while these things should continue to work for you, none of the new features will be active for you. This hereby ends my updates for 2.x users. Time to move to 3.x if you haven’t already.
There are no other changes in these apps other than the libhide support, so please dont try to tell me that this update caused your sms to stop sending the last character, that your iphone won’t reboot now, that your wifi no longer works, etc. These things are not things that would be caused by this update. These things did not get changed.
To test these versions, please add my test repo to cydia: http://thebigboss.org/betarepo – please only add this if you are willing to test beta software. (This should never appear in anyone’s “all sources” package.) If you have any issues, I expect that you are able to send me a syslog with a bug report to my email address. Please do not leave bugs on comments of this post. I will not read them. My email address is readily available in Cydia. Please use that. Syslogs can be obtained via logmailer. Finally, this repository should not be added to your Cydia if you are comfortable testing beta and possibly unstable software. To those of you that do test, thank you in advance.
Also, if you do test and things are working OK, I would appreciate an email saying that as well. I will release the update after I get sufficient amount of testing and no major issues.

Dear bigboss,
why don’t you use uicache for categories so categories does not require any respring at all
April 14th, 2010 at 2:15 pm
The fact that Categories doesn’t have to respring is like a dream come true! I’m less afraid to add new apps to my folders now. I hope when 4.0 is released you and the other brilliant hackers can improve Apple’s integration of folders.
And BigBoss, do you know of a way to use Winterboard to theme SBSettings’ respring.png image (in var/mobile/Library/SBSettings)?
Thanks!

Categories no longer needs respring…. That’s what this update was all about. (I’ve tried it myself.)
April 14th, 2010 at 2:16 pm
(Or at least /one/ of the things the update was about.)

After updating SBSettings to the new beta 3.0.7, it still says v3.0.6 in the drop down SBSettings window? Is that normal, or should I expect to see 3.0.7?
April 14th, 2010 at 6:35 pm
In Categories not appears the blue arrow to edit folder settings.
Only me? Or its a bug?
April 14th, 2010 at 10:03 pm
yup.. cannot access settings for CategoriesSB, blue arrow is gone.. other than that everything works fine

Wow this is great news!! Thanks for your hard work.

This is absolutely wonderful! I’ve been wishing for these features in Libhide for a very long time. Thank you for granting my wish and thank you for making the iPhone an even better device with your continued desire to innovate.

Just updated to the beta releases for categories, winterboard, and libhide. All run great on my iphone 1g 3.1.2 blackra1n. Love the fact that you not have to respring every time.
Will post an updates or bugs

Just updated to the latest SBSettings, and part of the update was the removal of Swapmode. Was this intentional? I was initially thinking that the update to SBSettings would then have had an inbuilt Swapmode, but to no avail. Is it advisable to reinstall Swapmode, or is there a specific compatibility clash which we are unaware of?
Cheers.

I just updated Libhide and SBsettings and after the respring all of my apps were deleted! Only thing left now are my themes and cydia apps.

April 19th, 2010 at 1:37 am
I’m also having the problem my links won’t open in safari
April 19th, 2010 at 8:05 am
I’m having the exact same issue – camera and photos keep hiding after a re-spring
April 19th, 2010 at 11:46 am
Same problem for me too. Almost all my links on springboard do not open in Safari. Few links still OK.
April 19th, 2010 at 2:17 pm
How can fix this link problem
April 19th, 2010 at 2:26 pm
My webclips aren’t working anymore after updating libhide and SBSettings, they do in safe mode.
April 19th, 2010 at 7:06 pm
I updated the libhide, categories, sbsettings and other things that use it. Now my Cydia will not stop crashing. Don’t know if it’s my fault or not, but probably is can you help, thanx
April 19th, 2010 at 8:05 pm
I am also having the problem with webapps home screen bookmarks not loading safari (basically they do nothing right now). this is after the latest update of libhide & sbsettings.
Sbsettings has to be the cause of the problem because if I disable libhide in sbsettings the problem still exists, but if I boot into safe mode (sbsettings is disabled) then webapp bookmarks work fine and load safari.
April 20th, 2010 at 1:25 am
Same problem as @dice: no working Webclips anymore :(
Also suddenly no battery charging progress bar, but that might have another reason. Somebody knows?
April 20th, 2010 at 6:27 am
Another update… it seems that the new sbsettings has also broken a number of toggles:
SBSilentToggle from iSpazio (but I found a replacement, Ringer/Silent Toggle from BigBoss seems to do the trick)
Push Notifications toggle
On another note, after I removed Push Notifications Toggle ALL my webapps homescreen bookmarks are working again- must be a conflict here somewhere.
I’m also betting that these crashes that I now seem to be experiencing are related to SBSettings. My iphone seems to crash after a toggle install and then trying to reload cydia. After a crash, if I try to launch cydia first, my springboard crashes. Cydia is stable on first run if it is after a full phone reboot
This SBSettings version/update is very unstable (at least on my device). I hope there is an update soon because I rely on this for so much all day long.
April 20th, 2010 at 7:21 am
When I say my cydia crashes, I mean it doesn’t even start no matter what I do. I resprung, full reboot and just turned the phone off and back on, can anyone help, thanx
April 20th, 2010 at 9:00 am
@dice
Removing Push Notifications toggle did the trick for me too. All bookmarks on the homescreen working again. The green battery appeared after reboot: no idea what caused the disappearance.
April 20th, 2010 at 9:14 am
Same here…i just fixed it by editing /var/mobile/Library/Libhide/hidden.plist and delete the line that has /Applications/MobileSlideShow.app
Then upon respring photos/camera stays on screen :)
April 20th, 2010 at 12:04 pm
Anyone know if there is a way to go back to the previous version of SBSettings? Now my iphone is crashing when running simple apps… safari crashes my springboard. so did evernote
April 22nd, 2010 at 4:34 am
after my last crash i launched cydia in safemode and reinstalled sbsettings. seems to be more stable right now…
April 22nd, 2010 at 7:31 pm
For some reason when I add or remove a icon from a folder on 2.99.6 and it does not respring, it causes the Nike + iPod icon to appear. A respring or turning the Nike + iPod on then off fixes the issue but thought I would let you know.
April 22nd, 2010 at 11:11 pm
There is an Push notification toggle update from 1.2.1 to 1.3 I installed it and the troubles with bookmarks on the hhomescreen are over!
:-)
