Categories. So I made changes to this about 6 weeks ago and thought I posted the update. But today when I was debugging my upcoming running programs widget for sbsettings, I noticed that categories from Cydia was about 6 weeks old and did not even contain the most recent features. So I updated this. I can’t tell you everything that changed because I simply don’t remember. But the most important thing is the ability to background the app from within categories without installing backgrounder.
SBSettings. iPodTouchMaster released a couple widgets by request. One is a close button for those that have a broken home button (I realize this is very few people, but it was very easy to do). The other was a volume control widget. I updated the fast notes with a few internal changes. I am focusing on a processes widget that shows running tasks and backgrounded apps and lets you kill them. This is not going to be a full “top” replacement, at least yet. For now, it’s going to focus on things you can actually kill in order to make it less confusing but more useful.

How hard would it be to do a VPN widget? :)
December 2nd, 2008 at 7:30 am
I’m not sure if any other users are experiencing this but the categories update messed up my folders. The apps within the folders no longer launch; it just returns to the springboard.
December 2nd, 2008 at 7:52 am
how about the safari download plugin toggle for sbsettings?
this is the only toggle remaining for which im still using bossprefs.
having said that, the background app manager wud be so kewl!
December 2nd, 2008 at 7:58 am
The new update messed up my folders, too.
Reinstallation does not help. Please fix it.
December 2nd, 2008 at 8:16 am
I too am having problems withe applications not launching in the folders.
December 2nd, 2008 at 8:16 am
Just got the 2nd update today and it works great again…Thanks BigBoss!
December 2nd, 2008 at 8:23 am
2nd update did the trick. Thanks for the outstanding support BigBoss.
December 2nd, 2008 at 8:24 am
thanks for the second update BigBoss!
December 2nd, 2008 at 8:32 am
Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this with the notes widget, but I can’t cancel out it’s autocorrection. When I try to hit the little “X” to ignore it’s autocorrected word, it replaces it anyways.
December 2nd, 2008 at 8:35 am
Above comment was mine. I updated notes hoping it fixed the problem. Still can’t cancel autocorrection when hitting the “X”
December 2nd, 2008 at 9:03 am
To those who have corrected their “unable to open applications in a folder” issue.. any idea how to install the “2nd update” when Cydia is itself inside a folder and therefore unable to run?
December 2nd, 2008 at 9:16 am
I’m having the same issue, though I compounded it by messing with the files in iPhone browser, now I can’t even get it to display a list of apps in the folder without it going back to Springboard. Even bigger problem, Cydia is sitting inside one of the folders!
Anyone know how to get apps out of a Category folder without being able to open the folder?
December 2nd, 2008 at 9:17 am
Any idea when a new backgrounder will be released? The page for it has not shown activity for over a month now. SBsettings is great, btw any change of profiling memory usage?
December 2nd, 2008 at 9:26 am
As a followup to my previous post. Anyone having the same problem as mine can fix the problem by ssh’ing into your iphone and renaming the file:
/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/com.apple.springboard.plist
To something like this:
/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/com.apple.springboard.plist.orig
Then reboot.. you can run cydia where you will find the 2nd update.. while you are downloading the update (and before it finishes the download) move the file you renamed above back to the original name and let cydia finish.. reboot and everything will now be as you expect. Hope this helps someone.
December 2nd, 2008 at 9:33 am
Mine work fine after the update.
And you can unhide them using the more button in SBSettings.
December 2nd, 2008 at 9:36 am
Yea i noticed this too
December 2nd, 2008 at 9:38 am
Yes unhide with the more button in SBSettings under hide icons.
December 2nd, 2008 at 9:46 am
Doug, you are awesome. Thank you! I have my apps back!
December 2nd, 2008 at 10:15 am
In regards to the volume widget:
Does this just control the ringer volume or the entire system volume?
This has no affect on my system sounds inside the phone itself..?
December 2nd, 2008 at 10:19 am
Edit to my above, I guess you could say I found a bug:
It does control my ringer and internal GUI music volume, but what it does not do is turn unloking/locking sounds of my phone down.
These are controlled by ToneFX, another 3rd party app.
December 2nd, 2008 at 10:25 am
“top” replacement? What is top? Just wondering.
December 2nd, 2008 at 10:28 am
Thanks as usual for your excellent work BigBoss, a question, is there a way to change the position of toggles in SBSettings? or could it be implemented in a future update, thanks in advance
December 2nd, 2008 at 10:36 am
“top” is an app run in terminal that shows you all you active processes, memmory usage, ect. Its in cydia.
December 2nd, 2008 at 11:03 am
This is the exact same for me, it would be the most useful toggle for me too.
December 2nd, 2008 at 11:15 am
still wanting safari dl toggle??
December 2nd, 2008 at 11:57 am
How about a send fast note to notes button inside fast notes? =)
Or also a fast todo =)
we’d love you even more in such cases =)
December 2nd, 2008 at 12:56 pm
I just had a quick question. How can a folder stay in memory without using backgrounder? I know how to do it, I was wondering how BigBoss did it.
December 2nd, 2008 at 1:05 pm
hi
So far exelent work with SBsettings.
please consider to make a ssh on restart toggle, as it exists in bossprefs. because the ssh is always on when i restart my iphone.
December 2nd, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Hi Its a good idea to do what you planing BigBos .Do it cose we waiting for it so long !!!
December 2nd, 2008 at 1:20 pm
and will it slow down the phone and drain the battery???
December 2nd, 2008 at 2:22 pm
a safri download plugin toggle would be great
December 2nd, 2008 at 5:09 pm
what does a safari download plugin even do?
December 2nd, 2008 at 5:21 pm
Thanks for the great app BigBoss. Is there anyway you can have the date print somewhere on the app? Like maybe above or below where it says iPhone’s Name:. I think it would be useful to be able to swipe your finger and figure out what the date is in any app. :)
December 2nd, 2008 at 7:10 pm
you should get it automatically though.
December 2nd, 2008 at 7:11 pm
It probably uses it’s own script.
December 2nd, 2008 at 7:11 pm
lets you download stuff.
December 2nd, 2008 at 7:48 pm
what do you mean?
December 2nd, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Hi BB,
Playing with the new volume widget you added on SBS I noticed if you keep clicking Volume tab it keeps opening up new slider bars on top of eachother.
Not sure if this is a potential bug or not but thought I would let you know!
Thanks!
Asa

random q: Am I the only one whose Wi-Fi IP address changes randomly? (perhaps when restart my ipod?) Is there a way of making it static (so I dont have to alter my host name (IP address) when I ssh?

December 3rd, 2008 at 3:55 am
My Deep HUD SBSettings Theme v1.06.01 is submitted to BigBoss i hope it will be soon available in Cydia.
It includes new brightness and Wifi icon and supports the Widgets Fast Notes, Close App and Volume.
December 3rd, 2008 at 4:43 am
I’ve not been able to find a way to re-order the items in SBSettings.
If that feature doesn’t exist, I’d like to request it. :)
Thanks for all the hard work!
December 3rd, 2008 at 5:04 am
+1 that would be a really useful feature!

Hi,
I have troubles with the SBsetting. When i have a connection with wifi it sometimes not showing the wifi symbol but the edge symbol. It’s not al the time bute sometimes. The connection with wifi is ok even when its not showing so. Is there anybody out there who has the same problem?
December 3rd, 2008 at 7:10 am
Do you ever visit this page? There is a full article about why it does that and why it stays like that.
December 3rd, 2008 at 7:10 am
It wont drain the battery. It uses a bit of memory. Try it out and see.
December 3rd, 2008 at 7:12 am
I updated it. It should be there now. Thank you for the theming support :)
December 3rd, 2008 at 7:13 am
Try the latest update.
December 3rd, 2008 at 7:14 am
This does not sound like a problem with SBSettings, but a problem with whether or not the iPhone thinks its connected to WiFi or not.
December 3rd, 2008 at 7:17 am
Experiencing problem with the notes widget. Cannot cancel out it’s autocorrection. When I try to hit the little “X” to ignore it’s autocorrected word, it replaces it anyway.
Can you help us with this BB
Thanks
December 3rd, 2008 at 7:27 am
But i have de installed sbsettings and then it worked fine. Do you have any clue?
December 3rd, 2008 at 7:41 am
the Volume widget is awesome. one bug I found was you can click volume over and over and over and get a infinate amount of volume widgets that all need to be closed. I think it should work like the brigtness toggle, only allowing one instance.
December 3rd, 2008 at 8:21 am
Hey Guys,
I tried to turn my SSH on after the new update, and my phone is COMPLETELY froze. It wont even reboot. Ive held down the power button for as long as I could.
Its froze with SBSettings on the screen..
I’ve tried to SSH in to reboot and its not working..
December 3rd, 2008 at 8:51 am
Well I finally got to reboot the phone, but every time I click SSH it locks the phone up completely, not even to safe mode, just freezes.
December 3rd, 2008 at 9:59 am

what can i do next?
December 3rd, 2008 at 3:32 pm
I’m confused, where do I go to enable the background option within Categories? Or is it built in?
December 3rd, 2008 at 4:05 pm
What was that nonsense? It surely wasn’t English.
December 3rd, 2008 at 4:13 pm

I really like SBSettings! Is there a way to set it up to toggle mail fetching? I have to go into “settings” several times per day to switch back and forth from “every 15 minutes” and “manually”.
It would be great to have a single toggle in SBSettings.
Thanks,
tys
December 3rd, 2008 at 7:45 pm
Hi Bigboss,
a bit hats off of SBSettings, excellent work. I showed it to my brother last week and the first thing he said is “I want that now!”
Oner suggestion, I find that the swipe gesture to open SBSettings is way too sensitive. I find myself accidentally opening it when I do things like touch the top of the Safari window to scroll to the top of the page.
Would it be possible to make the required swipe gesture more like the unlock slider, i.e. the full width of the status bar? I think this would solve the problem.
Thanks!

December 4th, 2008 at 12:19 am
Regarding this new updates for Categories, I crashed every time I was in the app (always happen after I exited 1 folder and enter the next folder to choose app during scrolling) which follows to auto Hard Reboot.
The previous version of Categories crashed everytime too, especially scrolling up and down 200 apps to choose which to assign, it always crashed and auto restart Spring Board.
I really adore this app because it’s amazingly helpful, but can you look into this?
I would suggest to remove icon previews (or make it small icon as BossPref, which never crashed during scrolling), and have an alphabet sorting for all apps names, if possible, maybe have a Search Bar. I think this crash caused by icon preview for my case, what do you think?
PS: I tried to lauch Categories after reboot so there won’t be any memory being used by other apps, it still crashed though… I never turn on Intelli Screen or any other apps too…
December 4th, 2008 at 12:22 am
Please submit your comments/bugs on the new updated Categories to help the developer! I really need to use this app to sort out my apps and I am looking forward for the next update.
Thanks a lot to everyone, especially the developer who had created such amazing app for iPhone.
December 4th, 2008 at 12:27 am
Oh My God, you won’t believe that after hard reboot caused by Categories crash, all my sorting icons in my iPhone was reset, All hidden apps/icons were reset to default.
It’s going to take me a long time to organize them.
December 4th, 2008 at 3:42 am
Is it possible to fix the “bug” when one have many applications with the same “.app” name (there’are the “iFuse” family (Raging Thunder, Crash Bandicoot, etc), the iPinball family, etc) ?
December 4th, 2008 at 8:55 am
BigBoss,
I have a 2G iphone with Categories and SBSettings with the most recent updates and most recent version of iPhone software.
The manual lock button (top of the iPhone) is no longer working. In order to lock successfully I have to use SBSettings to lock, power off, etc. Any suggestions?
Beyond that, I downloaded the most recent update and I don’t see the volume widget/toggle avaialable.. What did I miss?
Thanks for all the cool stuff you’ve done man.. Brian
December 4th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
Big Boss,
Never mind on the toggles, however, I still cannot get the manual lock/power button to prompt to power off or lock my phone.. Thanks, Brian
December 4th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
BigBoss,
Great job with SBSettings. Just wanted to suggest a toggle for Location Services. I always have this setting off to conserve battery life. When I need to use Maps or other apps that ask for your location I have to turn it on. It’ll be really usefull to just open SBSettings and toggle location services on.
December 4th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
monkeyG you speak english very well as a second language brother. I fully understood you, and I also can’t wait for a task manager for SBsettings.
Some people on WORLD WIDE WEB think that America is the center of the universe, and I do apologize for that.
December 5th, 2008 at 12:35 am
I’ve tried really hard to get this (version 2.22-2) to work. Not sure what happened, I loved this app previously, but over the last few days it has crashed repeatedly (goes back to springboard).
I’ve tried:
Restore, jailbreak, backup then install categories
Restore, jailbreak, set up as new phone, then install categories
Erase all content & settings (took 2 hours!), set up as new phone, restore, jailbreak, backup (from after the erase), then install categories.
Still it crashes!
Prior to these attempts I was also experiencing quickgold 1.3.4 crashing to safe mode but the above attempts were without installing quickgold.
What should I do next apart from give up? I’m using Quickpwn if that makes any difference…
December 5th, 2008 at 9:17 am
‘Downloading’ is the process of getting some type of information or data from the Internet to your device.
December 5th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Now iPhone freezes after changing anything in the folders, have to hard-restart it, although changes apply.
December 5th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
i had the exact same problem , and i did exactly what you did too!! then i finally figured it out!!!
it seems that at the bottom of the page there are those free ads that is what has been causing my categories folder to keep on crashing, as soon as i put my iphone on airplane mode nothing crashed anymore (i hope this is the same for you ) cos now my categories app works just fine
December 5th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
Just an FYI. I saw BB reply to a similar request in one of these comments & he said he doesn’t plan on changing the sensitivity or method of activation. So, if ever at all, it will definitely be a long way down the road.
Don’t kill the messenger. :)
December 5th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
HELP! Does anyone know a way to fix the Categories app after it crashes and no apps are in folders anymore? Well, they ARE in the folders, but they are also on the main screen. I tried to reinstall Categories… LAME! It does crash A LOT more since this update.
December 5th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
By the way, I just mean it is lame that it happened to me. I know this is all stuff people are working on in their own free time and I do appreciate the service these kind people provide. It is just frustrating that I spent two hours of my night organizing everything only for this to happen :(
December 5th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
you sir, are a genius.
odd bug though.
December 5th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
it seems that at the bottom of the page there are those free ads that is what has been causing my categories folder to keep on crashing, as soon as i put my iphone on airplane mode nothing crashed anymore (i hope this is the same for you ) cos now my categories app works just fine
December 6th, 2008 at 12:00 am
There is a similar issue with Quickgold settings – it no longer crashes for me if I have airplane mode.
Possibly QG is the culprit?
December 6th, 2008 at 10:55 am
I think I have found a bug that no one else has encountered yet. It involves Add/Remove program command from a folder and the subsequent sorting mechanism. I deleted Cycorder from a folder that also included the YouTube app. A copy of the cycorder landed on my springboard, but another copy of the app also remained in the folder— and what’s more the Youtube app has magically disappeared from my springboard and folder with no trace whatsoever. The youtube video player still exists, as it still works through safari, but the springboard app is gone.
How can I get my YouTube app back on the Springboard? From my limited understanding it seems possible , but I don’t know where to start or how to do it.
December 6th, 2008 at 11:01 am
EDIT:: the “Add/Remove program command” from the Categories app itself
December 6th, 2008 at 11:03 am
I sure wish Categories had the option to automatically sort/alphabetize the entries of a category for you. My GAMES page has like 60 entries on it and is a bitch to keep them in any sort of order!
December 6th, 2008 at 11:22 am
it was hidden. fixed through bossprefs.
but the bug isn’t a fluke.
December 6th, 2008 at 11:25 am
create multiple folders for your games maybe?
December 7th, 2008 at 8:06 am
Please, I’m begging you the developer of this fantastic app, that unveils the possibility of sorting apps into folders like a personal computer like no other apps can, please, once again, I’m begging you to consider rework and add new alphabetical sorting (small icons or no icons at all in adding app) plus work on the crash that leads to hard reboot and ends up all apps icons set to default, which will take a user a couple of hours slowly rearrange them.
I don’t even dare to launch this amazing app anymore, I am terrified.
December 7th, 2008 at 8:26 am
Sorry, I know of no hard reboot bug that results in all apps on springboard :(
I would need exact steps to reproduce this in detail.
December 7th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Or go into the iPod’s wifi settings and where it says DHCP BOOTP and STATIC select Static and it will keep locked on one ip. At least that is how it works on my iPhone 3G
December 8th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
Also would it be possible to put a lock button right in there and not in the power menu?
December 8th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
Ok, this is what I remembered:
Previous Version:
Always crash after launch, always crash in scrolling up and down many apps with icons, end up restart SpringBoard. I have 4 folders, each approximately hold 20 apps.
PS: I am still using bosspref for Hiding Icons because the new SBSetting hiding icons always crash… Anybody experience this?
This current version:
Always crash while editing 2nd folder. 1st folder minus & add apps no problem, but after I proceed to 2nd folder, the crash always happen when I was scrolling apps to add. I reckon it’s the 200 icons loading error, therefore I suggest to remove icons just like the LockDown, only app names, and it was smooth scrolling.
The crash end up in Hard Reboot. There is once all icons reset after Hard Reboot crashed.
As far as I’m using this, it always end up crashed, 8 out of 10. Hope this would help, thanks.
December 9th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
BigBoss,
In the course of installing SBSettings and using it, the lock button (top of the iPhone) no longer works. When I click it, nothing happens, springboard remains as is. I restored my iPhone once before (after having this issue once before) and the lock button functionality worked normally again after synching the iPhone.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Brian
December 9th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
Bigboss,
I really am enjoying this app. After my home button broke, i was worried that i would have to turn my ipod off when i wanted to close an app. But SBsettings and the Close App toggle saved my ipod! But i have another toggle idea. I’m not sure if this has been suggested yet, but what about a toggle that brings up the music controls like a double tap of the home button does for those of us with broken home buttons. Just an idea. Once again, this is a great app. Thanks.
@Brain
Why don’t you open up SBsettings, hit Power and then click Lock. Sure its not as fast, but it should work.
December 10th, 2008 at 8:49 am
Taylor.. Thanks.. The point is that SBSettings should not take away from standard iPhone functionality or render it inoperable. I’m aware of the ability to Lock using SBSettings, but software that eliminates other standard functionality, is, by definition, broken..
December 13th, 2008 at 5:18 am
I had a similar problem. Try this:
* Open Categories
* Add a new folder
* Add the apps that you can’t get to into the new
folder.
* Respring.
I had a slightly different problem and used a slightly different method, but the core fundamentals I used seem to suggest this might work. Good Luck!
December 14th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
Please add an option to use the categories setup application without icons, to save memory. I don’t know how many apps you are using for your testing, but Categories crashes all the time if you have many (100-150) installed apps. Most of the time I can only add 3-6 apps successfully to a folder before another crash happens. I hope you can imagine how much time it takes to sort 100-150 apps with all these crashes.
Even worse, older versions of Categories only forced an automatic Respring, but your current (and 1-2 previous updates) produces freezes that trigger a complete reboot of the iPhone.
The only background applications I am using are SBsettings and Quickgold. I don’t use Winterboard, IntelliScreen or something else that could cause those problems, so assuming that your software has no memory leaks or capacious bugs, the only remaining explanation for those crashes is the larger number of apps I am using, but that’s the main reason for using Categories – if I only had 30-40 apps I wouldn’t need folders at all.
December 15th, 2008 at 4:04 am
Will the email toggle from bossprefs be added?
December 15th, 2008 at 4:09 am
Hi anomousny,
You described my crash perfectly! That’s why my earlier post suggest to have No Icons Preview, plus Sort Alphabetically (I do not understand the current sorting method though).
What really disappoint me is the current version produces freezes that trigger a complete reboot of the device, and one of the reboot reset all my icons, so I hope the developer will release an update very soon as I had been helpful to describe the details and so do your comment.
I’m just wondering if any Cydia’s developer can break the 9 pages limitation to limitless, or enable direct jump to each page by tapping on the Small White Dots indication below (as the page number), that will be great and realistic since iTunes apps has hit thousands…
My other idea for Categories is to make it an app with each Category Names like the current AppStore, just plain text without icons with alphabetical sorting, similar to AppFlow but with custom Categories.
December 16th, 2008 at 7:01 am
Yes, you are describing the same problem I have. I guess BigBoss doesn’t use that large amount of apps for his tests.
I can reproduce the same crashing behavior with an App called “Trailers”. It has a search feature and if you search for a common word like “the” you get a huge list of movie trailers with little cover icons (very similar to the app-list Categories displays). If you scroll through this list from top to bottom the iPhone gets slower and slower, freezes and reboots after a while – exactly as Categories does.
I’m almost certain, that the problem is the same with both applications. They load more and more images to the memory and at some point the iPhone can’t handle it anymore and crashes.
There are some possible solutions:
- remove the icons from the list, because they are not needed to add your apps to folders / alphabetical sorting would be much more helpful in finding the apps than the problematic icons are
- load and unload the icons as they are really needed (current page + 1 page up + 1 page down maybe)
- replace the scrolling list with single pages you can skip through by pressing arrow-buttons – that way you need very few icons in memory
Please, fix this behavior BigBoss. I really appreciate your work, but Categories is almost useless to me (and some other users) if you don’t solve this problem.
December 16th, 2008 at 7:06 am
addendum: If you don’t have enough apps and therefor need a beta tester for your update, I would be very pleased to help you.
December 16th, 2008 at 8:36 am
This just happened to me too! As far as Categories was concerned, everything was still ok, but all icons were no longer hidden on the desktop( home page? whatever it’s called?). I deleted all of my folders and then reinstalled Categories. I found that when I made a new folder and added items to it, those items were not hidden on the desktop. It seems as if Categories somehow lost the ability set the “hidden flag.” I can still hide items through SBSettings, but now I would have to add items to folders in Categories and then go back and hide them in SBSettings. I am using the latest version.

Categories is a fantastic app. It’s the most important app on my iphone.
Unfortunately, it just keeps crashing in ways the force me to reboot. When adding apps to folders is when it usually happens. The last reboot “unhid” everything, and now Categories doesn’t seem to hide items after I add them to folders. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling Categories.
I’m sad that I will probably have to wait until it is more stable to use it again.

What Mason says is so true, I have the same problems and often the app crashes and the old springboard layout is restored(Visibility & Positions), I’ve to manually hide all apps already under categories to get space back and move all apps around to get the order I want.
And this is a big burden.
So I thought it would be safe to backup springboard configuration about visible apps and the order they have on SpringBoard.
The problem is that under the new FW 2.x no DispalyOrder.plist is available now.
So BigBoss (or anyone who knows this) which files that manage “Visibility & Order” I have to backup anytime I want to manipulate or add categories.
For categories I’ve seen all the files, but for springboard there are different files and they are not plain XML, and easily readable.
So to say what is/are the file/files that get modified when I move apps around on the springboard ?
And what is the file that get modified when in SBSettings or Bossprefs I hide Icons ?
Hope to hear from you soon.
Having possibility to backup would be a good fix for me for the moment.
I’m afraid to not update categories as I add new apps to the phone, but I don’t want to hide manually everything by hand so often.
Hope in a bugfix too.
Is a Great App after all :D

I’ve a little problem with SBSettings:
the hdd free space on / and /var/ doesn’t seem to be updated, since it keeps showing me 143mb and 12500mb. however, in itunes and in the “about” section of mi iphone it shows I have 12,0gb free.

Yes, backup would be GREAT! I wouldn’t mind the crashing so much if there was an easy backup/restore.
Again, this is a GREAT app. The only things on my phone that are more important are the phone/organizer items (calendar, contacts, SMS, etc.)

I was so stupid updating to 2.2 without emptying the categories folders.
So i lost a lot of apps. When i tried to reinstall the apps it didn’t work. Itunes installs them but i don’t see the apps.
I removed the apps on the ipod, on itunes and removed categories and then tried to install, without result. All apps are invisible. Also deleting manually the app in the var/mobile/application/ folder doesn’t help.
Who can tell me what to do to use the apps again?

Ok, i was not the only asshole with this problem, and the solution was very simple.
Settings > General > Restrictions, turn it on then off again.
Et voila, everything is visible again!!

I’m another person having the issue with Categories v2.22 continually crashing.
I also experienced the horrifying issue where after coming back from one of the crashes, all of my apps/games that were within folders were suddenly put back on the main springboard pages (giving me well over 9 pages of apps) ..
Because of that problem and the repeated crashing, I figured something must be wrong with my phone.. I just finished completely restoring my iPhone to the 2.2 firmware, re-jailbroke it and installed Categories v2.22 .. same problems with a “fresh install”
I do not have hundreds of applications on my phone at this point like someone else mentioned — I only have maybe 20 or 25 apps and the crashing from withing the Categories app is still happening.
Is there anyway for the many of us experiencing these crashes to “downgrade” the Categories program to v2.21? I never had any of these crashing issues with the previous version(s) of Categories I was using..

I think I’ve found the quickest fix for Categories crashing and dumping everything on the springboard. The program apparently hooks into Poof to hide the apps from springboard, and it may actually be Poof causing the problem. IDK. Merely open poof and rehide the apps once hidden in folders, reorder your pages, and in just a dozen or two hours you are back in business.
The process would be much simpler if catagories didn’t crash to a reboot after every single change. This program is so frustrating to deal with, but there seems to be nothing better or anything like it. I hope it gets continued development.
Now my problem is Poof crashing too before I can get scrolled all the way down my app list. Still trying to dig myself out of the last mess from Categories/Poof crashing.
I am totally new to Apple and have only had my phone a couple weeks. As much as I love it when it’s working, it seems Apple makes it too difficult for developers like the author of Categories to smoothly develop a program across updates. A non-jailbroke phone is too restrictive for me and if I can’t soon find a way to organize my shit smoothly, I may look at the Android phone. That’s a shame, because there are so many great features of the iPhone I would be giving up. For now, anyway.

I got a request for a change to the fast notes toggle in SBSettings, and can’t find a better place to put it…
Can you make the SBSettings window ‘roll up’ when the fast notes window is open? That way, I can still see some of the screen that I am taking a note off of… Or make a transparent theme for SBSettings??

This App is great, if it was working. Just like former entries above, Categories freezes, reboots, and in one case, placed all my apps back in the Springboard.
Would be great if you could provide a fix for these problems soon. The app looks great, and I really need this program.

Good morning, Categories one is excel application! I meetings two problems with this one, impossible to put “Webclip” in repertoires, and also for the applications accents of which names include.
Have we a means to solve these, or a next evolution?
Thanks

PLEASE HELP!!!
i recently accidently updated my ipod touch 1G to 2.2.1 and i tried to jailbreak it but cydia and installer didnt show up on the SB so i thought maybe the jailbreak i used was faulty so i downgraded my ipod back to 2.2 and re jailbroke it and cydia and installer still didnt show up i think the problem might be that i had those apps in a catigories folder before my ipod got updated and i was wondering if there was any way to get them to show up again(maybe a categories download that i could send to my ipod from my computer or something i could change in the /root folder on my ipod) thanks in advanced

BOSS
Are you ever going to come up with a new Categories, the current version has problem where as an example, I click on a folder I created, then add a app and when I add more than 2 or 3 at one time and go back to repsring it locks up and reboots itself, and sometimes goes to safe mode
Can you fix this in a new update please
Thanks for your great work!

Dear Big Boss,
Will there be a update soon for Categories?? I found that Categories begins to crash constantly as the numbers of apps are increasing. This issue makes Categories not possible to use. Still Categories is a very powerfull tool thanks.

Hey BigBoss, thanks for everything (awesome software, repo and blog!).
I agree with the others asking for alphabetical sorting. It drives me nuts having to re-order all the icons manually, especially when the phone freezes, also every time I install an app I have to add it to the folder and then drag it all the way up to it’s alphabetical place. Sucks!!
Many thanks, much love,
Paul

Yep, Categories needs to be more stable and not ignoring a lot of apps (especially webclips!)
Why is there a folder template for webclips as they are not recognized…?
