iOS7 Jailbreak substrate released

Author: BigBoss  //  Category: Jailbreak, News

Mobile substrate (now called cydiasubstrate) has been updated and released for the ios7 jailbreakers. With this, developers can now start compiling and testing their tweaks on arm64 devices such as the iphone 5s. Every tweak will need to at least be recompiled for arm64 support. Something like sbsettings needs a full recompile plus every toggle needs to be recompiled. Several tweaks still aren’t ready. If a tweak does not support arm64 on your 5s type device, it simply wont load or do anything.

Developers wanting to upgrade their tweaks to ios7 can follow this awesome guide. You need a MAC running xcode 4.4 and xcode 5.0.2: http://iphonedevwiki.net/index.php/Updating_extensions_for_iOS_7

iOS 7 jailbreak released today

Author: BigBoss  //  Category: Jailbreak, News

So an iOS7 jailbreak was released today. However, it was done without working with the community. So almost none of the normal jailbreak material are ready (cydia, mobile substrate, any of the tweaks you want to install). Since none of us developers have had any time with ios7 yet, we are all starting our work now. So it will be a while for everything (anything) to be working.

Also, for Chinese users, the jailbreak app installs something called “Taig” (a chinese appstore?) and you have to make sure to check the “cydia” box during jailbreak installation to get cydia installed.

Supporting the iphone 5s is going to be a larger task for most of us developers. The device runs 64bit arm, so unlike in the past, most tweaks have to be recompiled using a mac.

I strongly suggest that you download the jailbreak but do not install it yet for a couple weeks while developers update things. I suggest that you also do not upgrade your device keeping it at 7.0.4.

iOS7 tethered jailbreak

Author: BigBoss  //  Category: News

Looks like the iphone 4 class device tethered jailbreak will be due out soon via a port of redsn0w. I know that opensn0w is out somewhere also, but the steps for that are very complicated. Also, none of the tweak developers have had a jailbreak to use for development yet, so likely almost everything installed [...]

6.1.3 Is Out. Do not upgrade

Author: BigBoss  //  Category: Apps, News

Apple released iOS 6.1.3 today, patching and closing up the jailbreak. DO NOT UPDATE! They closed the restore window on 6.1.2. This means that if anyone has to restore their device, they are stuck without a jailbreak until another is released. What does this mean for you?

1) If you are already jailbroken, do not update.

2) Do not restore your device. Doing so will force you onto 6.1.3 (exception is older devices that can use redsn0w for restoring older FW).

3) If your device will not boot, before restoring, try holding the volume up button while booting to get into forced safe mode. In this case, you can hopefully get back into your device to fix whatever you did to cause it not to boot.

4) iOS 5 users on iPhone 4s type devices, you lost your chance to update to iOS 6 and jailbreak. Stay on iOS5.

6.1.2 out, still jailbreakable

Author: BigBoss  //  Category: Jailbreak, News

Looks like 6.1.2 is out and still jailbreakable with Evasi0n according to planetbeing who tested it on an iphone 5 and ipad mini. Those of you jailbroken cannot directly update so your steps are:

1) Backup device
2) Restore (not update) to latest firmware
3) Activate device, and recover your backup
4) Jailbreak again.

The changes are mainly to fix the exchange bug so if you aren’t impacted by that and don’t want the hassle of updating, feel free to skip 6.1.2 and stay on your existing firmware.

Get to 6.1 Now while you still can

Author: BigBoss  //  Category: Jailbreak, News

iOS5 users, if you ever want to jailbreak iOS6, you need to get updated immediately!

Apple is seeding 6.1.1 to developers as a beta. This means 6.1.1 update is coming pretty quick (next few days?) Good chance this has the jailbreak already patched out and also once it’s released you will no longer be able to restore to 6.1. So while you still can, I suggest you get yourselves onto 6.1 today so that if you choose to jailbreak you have the option to do so. If you’re still on 5.x and think you ever want to be jailbroken on 6.x, you should get the update to 6.1 done today.

iOS6 Jailbreak Safety And Protection

Author: BigBoss  //  Category: Jailbreak, News

If your device won’t boot up, reboot it while holding the volume up key. This will disable all extensions and allow you to get into cydia to solve the problem. Remember this so you do not have to restore to solve problems. (This is only if your device will not boot like you are stuck at apple logo. Otherwise, boot your device up normally).

Now that the jailbreak is out, this will help some of you jailbreakers do a couple of simple things that will protect your jailbreak and help you in case of problems later down the road and prevent having to restore to solve a problem. Remember, once Apple turns off signing 6.1 firmware (like on a future update), you may not be able to restore in case of problems without losing your untethered jailbreak. Therefore, these things will help you in case you do have issues as well as preventing some issues.

1) Remove the “reset all” button in settings. This button will make your device unbootable and you will have to restore. The easiest way to do this is to simply install “ResetAllKiller”. If you’re on the idevice now, you can get there by clicking here.

2) Remove the software update button in settings. This also removes nagging notifications that a pending software update is available. Clicking software update seems to put your device into a non-bootable state if your device is jailbroken. Do this by installing “Software Update Killer” from cydia. If you’re on your device now, you can click here to load cydia and get there. This is also solved by updating the latest jailbreak updates in cydia, but the added protection from software update killer doesn’t hurt.

iOS6 Untethered Jailbreak Out

Author: BigBoss  //  Category: Jailbreak, News

The long awaited iOS6 untethered jailbreak is now out for Windows, Linux, and OSX. You can download it and read guides on how to use it at Evad3rs site:

Lots of hours went into this JB. I’m sure the teams would appreciate it if you used the donate button inside of it and sent them a small donation for their efforts (optional of course).

As always, cydia will be extra busy in the first few days so if you’re having cydia related issues, try later is a good suggestion.

Fake Sbsettings on app store

Author: BigBoss  //  Category: News

Edit: Looks like it’s removed from App Store.

I guess apple isn’t even testing their apps. Someone is selling a totally fake app called “SBSettings [cydia]” on AppStore for $1.99. It is totally fake. Do not buy it. The app is actually an alarm clock.

It is impossible to produce something like sbsettings outside of the jailbreak world due to its nature. Impossible. The fake sbsettings even takes the product description and screenshots right from our Cydia description.

https://t.co/LuWrj9tG

My guess is someone submitted it as an alarm clock then changed the product description and screenshots after it was in AppStore to scam extra money from the public. Lol

iOS 6 – A dud

Author: BigBoss  //  Category: General, Jailbreak, News

Jailbreakers: Do not upgrade to iOS6 until a jailbreak is released. You will lose all your jailbreak!

iOS 6 is a total dud. I think it’s by far the worst major upgrade Apple has ever provided. It’s more like a 5.1.2 than a 6.0. Let’s take a look at the major differences moving to iOS6 from iOS 5.

1) Removes youtube
2) Removes google maps.
3) Adds apple maps. No street view, no transit directions. Remember, google has been doing maps a long time. No way apple is doing it as well in a few months.
4) Adds what? Facebook integration, ViP mail, do not disturb? iOS 5 users, you can get “do not disturb” functionality with “ringerx vip” in cydia.

This is definitely not worth an upgrade. And if you are jailbroken on iOS5 definitely do not upgrade to this. You will lose your jailbreak and that’s definitely not worth it for this.

Speaking of disappointments, the iPhone 5 seems equally disappointing. The screen is a little bigger – that’s great. The device is a little faster, also neat. But the change of the dock is huge. How many devices do you plug your iphones into? iHome, car, chargers. All this requires new cables and all these devices stop working. In my home I have 5 docks for charging in various rooms, a car deck with an iPod cable coming out of it. All this becomes useless if I buy an iPhone 5. I’ll stick with iPhone 4s another year.

5.1.1b for iPhone 4 GSM

Author: BigBoss  //  Category: Jailbreak

Edit: absinthe is updated to handle 5.1.1b now so this should no longer be an issue.

Today Apple released 5.1.1b for iPhone 4 GSM devices. If you manage to install this firmware you won’t be able to have an untethered jailbreak until a new version of the Absinthe 2.0 payload for this firmware can be produced. This will probably be sorted out in a few hours but you should all be aware in case you have an iphone 4 GSM (AT&T, for example) and have an issue. Apple did not patch the jailbreak and probably released this without being aware of the jailbreak. But a slightly different payload is required for it to work correctly with Absinthe v2.

5.1.1 Jailbreak Soon

Author: BigBoss  //  Category: Jailbreak

Here is an update status from Musclenerd regarding the upcoming untethered jailbreak:
* All info below is tentative and subject to last minute refinements

* @pod2g’s 5.1.1 jailbreak+untether is working out great. All devices are covered except for AppleTV3,1, which currently has no path for jailbreaking.
– the initial 5.1.1 plan used a kernel exploit from @westbaer which unfortunately precluded use in iPod3,1 (latest ipod touch) and iPhone2,1 (iPhone 3gs)
– @planetbeing stepped up and provided a kernel exploit that covers both of those. Those two JBers are the bomb!

* The 5.1.1 A5 JB is very similar to the A5 5.0.1 JB. @pimskeks has done a tremendous job supporting both 5.0.1 and 5.1.1 in absinthe

* Similar to 5.0.1, there will also be a 5.1.1 CLI “cinject” binary and redsn0w version of the 5.1.1 JB+untether. Absinthe, cinject, and redsn0w will all provide the same JB in different fashions.

– timing is indeterminate. Plans are for this week, but a number of factors can influence that.

* For those wishing to donate, we’ve set up a new 5.1.1 paypal URL: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=4U6DQGJ2NRVUN

* Please don’t pirate AppStore apps (seriously, please do not).

Do Not Update to 5.1

Author: BigBoss  //  Category: Jailbreak

Apple has released 5.1. This is either being pushed out now or will be shortly. This has some bigger-than-normal impacts for jailbreakers. Please read this carefully.

There is no untethered jailbreak for 5.1. Do not update to it. You will lose your jailbreak, cydia, and all your tweaks..

Absolutely, do not use the onboard iphone software update to update your device. This will most likely render your device unbootable and you will be forced to restore to 5.1.

1) If you are on an iphone 4s or iPad 2, updating to 5.1 is one-way. (This may also be the case for iphone 4 users). You cannot revert back. If you try 5.1 you will be stuck there forever. You will not be able to jailbreak until a new jailbreak is released.

2) If you are on an iPhone 4 or ipad 1 or similar device, you will be able to jailbreak tethered, then install semitether to get a semitethered jailbreak. In short, this will be jailbroken but when you reboot, you will lose your jailbreak until you get back to your computer and rerun redsn0w.

3) If you are on an old 3gs, like always, you can jailbreak untethered.

Finally, some other issues to be concerned with. If you install something in cydia that causes your device to not boot, you have to restore, you will be stuck updating to 5.1. Therefore, I suggest you get SSH installed and learn how to use it. If your device is in an unbootable state, you can fix it via SSH. With SSH installed, you can get further help in our irc channel (irc.thebigboss.org, #ios).

Troubleshooting your device without restore:
If you encounter issues on your device like things are not running stably or such, rather than restoring, try to debug the issue. Here are my suggestions:
1) In cydia uninstall mobile substrate. This will remove many things. Allow that. Reboot the device.
2) After this, test the device. Is it stable? If so, move to step 3.
3) Reinstall one tweak of your choice. Only one. This will reinstall mobile substrate as well.
4) Test with just that one tweak until you’re satisfied your device is stable.
5) Repeat steps 3 & 4 with one tweak at a time until you find one that makes the device unstable. Remove that one only and continue on.

SBSettings CMDA (Verizon/Sprint) 5.0.1

Author: BigBoss  //  Category: News

For users having no service after using sbsettings on your 5.x CDMA device, it is not caused by sbsettings but instead by the 3g toggle.

To fix it:
1) Disable the 3g toggle in the more app (don’t use it)
2) go to settings, general, reset, and reset your network settings.
3) Reboot.

I am pushing a new sbsettings with a 3g toggle that should detect and not run on CDMA. I don’t have a 4s on CDMA so I can only test my iphone 4 Verizon which it seems to work ok there.
