Yes, Apple is releasing it today. No you should not update to it.
For those that did not read that, DO NOT UPDATE TO 4.2. Ok now that you’ve read it, wait for the jailbreak to be officially tested and released. Further, remember that jailbreak on 4.2 is likely tethered on newer devices, which means you have to rerun it every time you reboot your device. This was covered here already. Dev team also covered this in more detail here.

Do you have a word on the date an unlock is going to be realesed for 4.1 firmware?
Does anybody knows why there is not a baseband firmware saving/restoring tool for Iphone?
why is taking so long to realease an unlock?

Instead of being so pessimistic; could you be a little more informative? While a lot of users shouldn’t update for a variety of reasons, this certainly isn’t the case for everyone. And it’d be in the best interest for those AND those that SHOULDN’T update if you explained what the current status for each device is, rather cutting people off and having them look for alternative, less reliable sources of “can I really not jailbreak 4.2 and why?”. Providing good information is key.

Is it OK to update iTunes? Does this have any effect on a jailbreak iOS 4.1 iPhone?
November 22nd, 2010 at 11:49 pm
But… but… I want iOS 4.3! Does anybody have a release date for that? And when will there be a jailbreak for it? And an unlock? 4.2.1 has been out for soooooo long, St. eve needs to get on the ball and give us crapple customers what we deserve!

you seem to be knowledgable here. So I think you can clear this up for me. I thought the dev team already had a jailbreak/unlock that they said would work on once 4.2 came out. the Shatter exploit. I thought that was why they saved it and didn’t release it was so that it could be used for the new FW.

What effect does the release have for people like me?
In other words, upgraded to Bootloader 6.08 3G by mistake.
Many thanks to you very savvy developers,..

U can jailbreak it. They just haven’t made asoftware to carrier unlock the baseband 05.14.02. They probably won’t. They did a work around by updating redsnow to allow u to change to an iPad base band and then u can use ultra snow to carrier unlock. I’m running 4.1 & it works perfectly. Took4ever & will never make upgrade mistake again!

I made the mistake of updating to 4.2.1 on my itouch 4g. I use redsn0w beta tool and my jailbreak is fine as long as I don’t reboot simple as that. A fix for untethered jailbreak will happen just give it time. It’s not likely im ever somewhere away from my outer that I have to reboot anyways so your best bet is to just leave it sleeping when you ain’t using it
