The “Cydia Store” should be out today with a couple packages. What is the Cydia Store? Saurik, author of Cydia, is adding a checkout service for developers that sell software so they can sell it inside Cydia as an alternative to AppStore. This is already happening today, but developers are on their own to figure out how to charge and register their apps. The Cydia store will make this process easier for both developers and users.
Some facts about the store:
1) Cydia will still be Cydia. There will still be free apps, themes, and all the packages there are today. This is not a new app, there will not be a 2nd Cydia icon added to springboard.
2) The same sources work. Nothing changes there either.
3) Some packages may have a shopping cart next to them indicating that they’re not free. You will have to buy them. Paid packages currently show up in a blue font.
4) Registration is currently being handled by Facebook, but other registration methods are being implemented.
5) Checkout is currently being handled by Amazon shopping but other payment methods are being implemented.
6) Only a few packages are going to be part of the “store” to start in order for more testing of the process.

i don’t know all the legal ramifications of bringing about the cydia store, but considering the jailbreaking is/was facing legal issues, wouldn’t this be the proverbial “final nail”? :(

I really like Cyntact. Worth the money, and definitely worth being a part of a project like Cydia Store! Thanks Saurik!

I bought cyntact to help with the debug, no issues at all. Here are some screenshots

hey i dont understand why this would be bad for apple! competion is always good for the buiness!

I don’t follow how this would have any impact on legality issues. Apple is not the law, they are a company. Whether they like something is irrelevant. If anything, this makes the legality case even stronger as Apple could now be sued as a monopoly by trying to shut down competition. Before this, there was not a valid business case for jailbreaking. Now there is.

I’m against this, at least to an extent.
I am sure that a lot of developers that would have posted packages for free, will now request payment, just because they can.
I have paid for a few packages, “the old way”, but only because they were worth it, now I’m sure a heap of the packages will have a cost, even for tiny add ons.
This will probably lead to an Installous like thing for cydia.
Which would lead to more incidences of piracy, because piracy would be easier.

Why Amazon? Is it a problem to use the same account with google account in app. store?
March 7th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
i_Hot: Amazon is much cheaper (in fact free) for Saurik to use, where as PayPal can charge around 30 cents for a $1 app.

I do not follow at all because it does not look like Apt Store

How about a screenshot of Cyntact? I feel (probably am) dumb, but I don’t grasp what it does.
