For those of you that are interested in MMS, you can now enable MMS on AT&T via a simple carrier update. As I stated before, no firmware update is required. This works on 3.0 and 3.0.1. Here are instructions from hacker Gates. Reports from Gates indicate that tethering is still working, although no promises.
If you have 3.1:
- For jailbroken & Non-Jailbroken Phones:
- – Plug in your iPhone, if no prompt, click ‘check for upgrade’
- – Let upgrade happen (it is very fast)
- – Restart your iPhone [DONE!]
If you have 3.0(.1)
- Close iTunes
- – Windows:
- – - Click Start > Run > Type: cmd (and hit enter)
- – - Run this command: “C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
- – OSX:
- – - Open the Terminal Application
- – - Run this command: defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE
- Download the newest AT&T Profile 5.5 (release 9.25.09) [Download Here / Mirror]
- – *Note* This will disable “cellular data network” to keep, see note at bottom (Advanced Only)
- Open iTune
- – Windows – Hold the shift key while clicking update under your iPhone in iTunes.
- – OSX – Hold the alt key while clicking update under your iPhone in iTunes.
- Navigate to the IPCC file (Windows* might need to change file type to IPCC)
- Let upgrade happen (it is very fast)
- Restart your iPhone [DONE!]
**Note** (Advanced Only)
If you use the 5.0 carrier file you can KEEP your “cellular data network” & tethering
In other words-
dtube: Basically 5.5 will give you instant mms with setting configured but will disable cellular data network. With 5.0, you have to configure mms parameter manually, but cellular data network is there thus tethering is
Follow the same directions but instead use this file:
http://rapidshare.com/files/279287091/ATT_US.ipcc
After updating to that file and restarting you must goto “cellular data network” (Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network)
And update some your configs
- Visual Voicemail change wap.cingular to acds.voicemail
- MMS settings (below the Visual Voicemail ) should match this (leave blank fields blank):
APN: wap.cingular
Username:
Password:
MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 066.209.011.32
MMS Max Message Size: 614400
MMS UA Prof URL:

September 25th, 2009 at 11:50 am
What do you mean 5.5 and 5.0? Do you mean the carrier settings?
September 25th, 2009 at 12:09 pm
ATT have carrier profiles with settings for the network etc, the new one that came out today is 5.5
The one that came out with 3.1 was 5.0
and the original (no mms) was 4.0
September 25th, 2009 at 12:13 pm
When I try to update I get the following error:
The iPhone “” could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (0xE800003D).
I couldnt download the link that says “Download
the newest AT&T Profile 5.5 (release 9.25.09) [Download Here]” because its “limit has been reached” – can anyone send me the file?
September 25th, 2009 at 12:16 pm
I need help. I have already had 5.0 (OS 3.01) because I have found it a few months ago and tried this, someone said this would work and I never got it to work. I try to send MMS today (little camera icon does appear) and it fails. I don’t have “cellular data network” settings, but I do have tethering available.
September 25th, 2009 at 12:26 pm
Thanks BigBoss!
I’ve been following the various rumor sites, but
I was waiting to hear from you that this was safe to do. Just sent a test message and am happy to report that I’ve got functional MMS on my jailbroken 3GS with 3.0!!
Tethering via PDANet is still working fine. (I never tried the other tethering hacks)
September 25th, 2009 at 12:26 pm
goto http://www.rottapp.com/mms.html – I updated it
September 25th, 2009 at 12:27 pm
follow the advanced steps at the bottom
September 25th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
If using the 5.5 carrier file and it disables “cellular data network” does that mean I lose 3G and EDGE data communication or is it just the menu I am losing with all the settings?
Thanks!
September 25th, 2009 at 12:32 pm
I guess I just should have tried. 5.5 updated file works and 3G and EDGE still work. Just no “cellular data network” settings menu.
Thanks BigBoss as always!
September 25th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
Yes, I would but it doesn’t show ANY “cellular data network settings”. I have a 3G with OS 3.01, jailbroken, carrier 5.0 with tethering.
September 25th, 2009 at 12:35 pm
Oops, I have 3.0, not 3.01, I don’t think that makes a difference, does it?
September 25th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
I tried again and still get the same error….wtf am i doing wrong?
September 25th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
great post but since i used a custom firmware and it kept the old baseband it doesnt let me update, ive done everthing in the post but i keep getting the same error “The iPhone “” could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (0xE800003D)”
September 25th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
Me too…damn
September 25th, 2009 at 1:01 pm
this part does not work. i get an error. what exactly should i put in the command line?
“C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
September 25th, 2009 at 1:06 pm
WHen i go to shitft + update in itunes and i want to locate the .ipcc file it wont let me choose it because itunes wants to find .ispw file. What am i doing wrong?
September 25th, 2009 at 1:07 pm
cd C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe
then iTunes.exe /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
This is what I did.
September 25th, 2009 at 1:08 pm
If you do it correctly, there will be drop down to choose .ipcc file type.
September 25th, 2009 at 1:12 pm
If I install 5.5, can I install 5.0 over? Is there going to be any problems?
September 25th, 2009 at 1:14 pm
this is what i get when i put in
“C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe”
the file is there i checked.
‘C:\Program’ is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
September 25th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
Edit:
cd C:\Program Files\iTunes
September 25th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
i’m on windows vista 32 bit with iTunes 9.0.1 and a 3g iPhone running 3.0.1 fw, jailbroken. i follow the instructions above to the letter, however when i try to select the new .ipcc file, it only wants to open and/or look for an .ipsw file. How do i get it to update the .ipcc instead of the .ipsw? and again, i’ve followed above instructions TO THE LETTER. i ran the command line prompt, double checked all the characters, spacing, etc. shift when i press update under my iphone tab in itunes, and it STILL wants an .ipsw…. and yes, the file is correctly named ATT_US.ipcc
and i am attempting to update to the 5.0 .ipcc
Please help!
September 25th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
Sorry. Try this.
cd C:\Program Files\iTunes
enter then
iTunes.exe /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
enter then
open itunes
September 25th, 2009 at 1:19 pm
Thanks! worked like a charm.
September 25th, 2009 at 1:19 pm
will this work with itunes 9? the .ipcc file?
September 25th, 2009 at 1:20 pm
thanks!
September 25th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
i have followed the steps MULTIPLE times EXACTLY as they are, and itunes still will ONLY allow me to select an .ipsw
September 25th, 2009 at 1:22 pm
yeah I’ve read somewhere that you have to use a beta version of itunes to get it to recognize the .ipcc file… Haven’t confirmed yet looking for an itunes 9 beta for vista x64.
September 25th, 2009 at 1:25 pm
I’m using iTunes 9 on XP, and it did work.
September 25th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
so when you held the shift key it recognized the .ipcc file?
September 25th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
Ok, I went from my old 5.0 that I had before, to the 5.0 on this page, and now I have “cellular data network” settings. I updated the settings like it said, restarted, and MMS still fails to send.
September 25th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
sorry ima dum ass obviously it recognized it if it worked for u. lol my bad
September 25th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
ok i got it working do this, check in cydia and make sure you dont have any at&t carrier logo installed, i had the bigboss at&t carrier logo even tho my at&t logo never appeared in 3.1 since i kept the old baseband i just deleted the carrier logo from cydia and restarted then updated and it works
September 25th, 2009 at 1:47 pm

MacBook Pro iTunes 9…
September 25th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
Alright this is gettin rediculous how are you gonna go and tease us with getting mms but damn near all of us can’t get your process to work. Will the author of this please come up with a response to fixing the problem with not our computers not being able to recognize the .ipcc file??????????
September 25th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
I’m on a jailbroken 3G 3.0 and everything worked fine for me. but it seems I can only send MMS when I’m on 3G and not wifi…anyone else having this problem ?
September 25th, 2009 at 2:32 pm
Hope this helps found it in another forum.
“If you can not see the ipcc it is because the ASR – ipccEnabler did not work. Apple disabled the ability to see ipcc files in iTunes release 8.2 to current 9.0. So… if you can not see the ipcc file this explains why. If you can find a copy of iTunes 8.2 BETA it will show up there. Maybe this will explain why some of you can not see the file.”
September 25th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
thanks, this needed to be said. I have followed the directions TO THE LETTER MULTIPLE TIMES ON MULTIPLE PC’s (one xp, one vista), i’ve quintouple checked the spelling, spacing, capitalization, etc. of the command line prompt and iTunes 9 STILL refuses to recognize the .ipcc file.
This method has obviously not been tested properly, or there’s a step missing?
Is there anyone who was able to get this method to work on a PC? or is everyone who had success enabling MMS via this process on a mac?
September 25th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
MMS fails to send close to the end of the bar – happens on both wifi and 3g. I’ve got a jailbroken 3GS 3.0.1 and used the 5.0 ipcc file and followed the advanced settings steps above.
September 25th, 2009 at 2:45 pm
get “The iPhone “” could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (0xE800003D)”
error helpppppppppppppppppppppppppp please can see file

September 25th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
check you dont have a carrier image installed on cydia
September 25th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
I’m having a lot of problems as well. I have 3.0.1 and updated Itunes 9. But when I try to write in that code on command prompt I am getting the same responses as everyone else. When I downlaoded the file and try to open it, it keeps looking for ipsw file….I really want to get my MMS working if someone could help.
September 25th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
I have a 3GS with 3.0.1 and I have 5.0 carrier settings and I had to rest the network settings on my phone before it worked. Then add the Advanced settings then it should work. The Tether will only work if I reset nework settings again and disable MMS. After you are done tethering then go back to advanced settings and type in the user name and password and MMS will work again. Pain but it is worth it.
September 25th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
Reset network settings and go back and type in the Advance Settings again. It should work.
September 25th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
@jgonzalez31: what do you mean by a carrier image?
@Lisset: i had the same problems. what i did was run the cmd prompt as adminstrator and then typed (leave off the quotes).
“cd C:\Program Files\iTunes”
press Enter
“iTunes.exe /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1″
press Enter
Open Itunes and do shift+update the filetype dropdown that has ipsw files will let you choose ipcc files.
September 25th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
It lets me type in the first thing, and then after I press enter and type the second thing it is saying it is not recognized and all that.
September 25th, 2009 at 3:26 pm
works great make sur you change directory then lets you use ipcc
September 25th, 2009 at 4:00 pm
WORKS GREAT! Took no more than 5 min.
September 25th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
PrefInt is capital letter I not a lower case L. Try that.
September 25th, 2009 at 4:10 pm
hmm. I’m on Windows7 and that’s what worked for me. Apparently the commands are slightly different depending on windows version. These are the instructions I followed: http://www.redmondpie.com/enable-mms-on-iphone-3.1-via-att-qrt651/
September 25th, 2009 at 4:40 pm
Didn’t work for me
September 25th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
Gates; jgonzalez31 figured it out…uninstall any Carrier Logo’s you have from Cydia….then try it. You should include this in the directions, I’m sure a lot of people are going to have this problem. Thanks for putting the file on a new website!
September 25th, 2009 at 4:56 pm
Im gonna wait for the 3.1 Jailbreak, make it a little simpler…
September 25th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
Alright got the step by step fix for those of us using a PC I only confirmed this using:
iPhone 3G 3.0.1
iTunes version 8.2 (Beta not needed)google oldapps to get it.
I have a Vista Machine but confirmed it on my XP Laptop
you have to downgrade iTunes because apple made it so you can’t see .ipcc files in itunes.
make sure itunes is closed and open cmd and copy and paste this:
cd C:\Program Files\iTunes (hit enter) then:
iTunes.exe /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1 (hit enter)
Now open itunes hold the shift key and hit update
then where it says it wants the .ispw there should be an option with a down arrow to select the .ipcc file open it restart your iphone and now your sending mms baby!

The capital i vs lowercase L did the trick. It’s easy to confuse in the fonts used here. In the command line capitalization is irrelevant so don’t worry about it here.
Also, if you do it incorrectly iTunes launches when you execute the command. If you do it correctly, you will manually have to launch iTunes, and after shift-click>Update the .ipcc dropdown is available.
September 25th, 2009 at 5:29 pm
ok can someone help me or at least let me know if I am ok.. This is what I did.. I did a restore yesterday on my phone and jailbreak. My phone is a iPhone 3GS on firmware 3.0.0 Anyway I did the restore and jailbreak and installed MMS Above and my Visual Voicemail wouldnt work at all but the MMS did (Without changing any settings in settings).. Well today I got home from work. Restored again to 3.0.0 and jailbroke and then activated my voicemail before doing this install. I then did this install above and after the install (of 5.0) I rebooted the iphone and everything is working like a charm. No need for any changes in the settings or anything. I am on Contract with AT7T if that makes a difference. Should I have to do something else or is that ok what I have done so far..
Thanks
Patrick
September 25th, 2009 at 5:34 pm
wow, so two minor things fixed the problems. first, Preflnt is “PREFINT” with an “I” not an “l.” second, for some reason, if you have big boss’s better ATT carrier logo, you must uninstall that via cydia before updating the .ipcc. Problem solved. keep those two points in mind as you follow the directions above, on any version of iTunes, and it will work.
THANKS guys, sorry for the confusion…
September 25th, 2009 at 5:41 pm
followed exactly that, when it starts updating it gives me that 0xe8000 error, whats the deal?
im trying to update with carrier 5.5, my phone is 3G with 3.0 jailbroken, and no, I do not have any of those big boss carrier settings on my phone
September 25th, 2009 at 5:45 pm
I’m getting different code error The iPhone “” could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (0xE8000050).
The other posts show errors ending in 3D.
I don’t have any carrier logo’s installed. Any idea.
September 25th, 2009 at 5:46 pm
What Operating system are you using?
because I could not get this to work with Vista Ultimate x64
September 25th, 2009 at 5:48 pm
Never encountered that error code either though
September 25th, 2009 at 5:48 pm
wait hold on, I lied, I thought I removed the carrier logo but it was still installed… LOL im removing it now and giving it another go, and im on wind xp
September 25th, 2009 at 5:48 pm
Actually 5.5 works but 5.0 doesn’t work. Get the error above
September 25th, 2009 at 5:49 pm
yeah u need older version of itunes trust me.
September 25th, 2009 at 5:56 pm
it works now phew
September 25th, 2009 at 6:05 pm
PS. I’m on a 3G jailbroken to 3.0 and I did the update in Windows with iTunes 9.
September 25th, 2009 at 6:09 pm
oh yeah. i got 9.1..
September 25th, 2009 at 6:13 pm
I had same problem, I was using iTunes 9.1 and it didn’t give me the .ipcc option. I installed 9.0 and it now gives me the option.
September 25th, 2009 at 6:42 pm
I have been trying this for HOURS.
No matter what I do I don’t get the option to select .ipcc files, only .ipsw.
After many tries I thought the old iTunes 8.whatever I had might be the problem for being older.
I then “upgraded” to 9.1, same problem.
I read 9 works, but not 9.1 for many. I therefore found 9.0.1.8 or whatever, still don’t work.
What the eff do I do? Can anyone help me?
September 25th, 2009 at 6:44 pm
Oh, I have an 8GB 3G with FW 3.0.1 jailbroken with redsn0w for Windows if that info is important.
September 25th, 2009 at 7:00 pm
I have a 3g, Vista, v3.0.1, but Carrier V4, tethering, which I dont want to lose. Should I upgrade or wait for JB v3.1?
This site is SUCH a great help, THANK YOU
September 25th, 2009 at 7:03 pm
iTunes 8. whatever what? you have to go back as far as 8.2 at least. And what version of Windows? And if you already installed anything above that version on a Vista machine and try to downgrade forget it. Won’t work.
September 25th, 2009 at 7:16 pm
!!!AND I CAN CONFIRM INTERNET TETHERING WORKS WITH THIS!!!
September 25th, 2009 at 7:16 pm
0xE800003D – After almost 3 hours of working I got iTunes to recognize ipcc and now I got this problem.
I know what everyone has already said, check for carrier logos and crap. I did that BEFORE I even started trying this MMS activation stuff. I took off my custom AT&T logo. Guess I just keep taking stuff off until this works.
If it helps anyone, here is what finally made my iTune (9.0.1.8) recognize ipcc. Instead of ““C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1″ I did “cd C:\Program Files\iTunes\” and then “iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1″
Now onto this new shit…
September 25th, 2009 at 7:20 pm
do you use the upgrade tab next to the 3.1 upgrade question, or is it somewhere else?
September 25th, 2009 at 7:29 pm
Your problem is most likely iTunes 9.0.1, either downgrade or use another machine with a earlier version, 8.x works (like mine), 9.0 MIGHT work (per others)
September 25th, 2009 at 7:29 pm
Could someone confirm what version of iTunes you need to use, the newest 9.1 does not seem to let you load anything besides an ipsw.
September 25th, 2009 at 7:30 pm
Yes, the one next to the 3.1 question, the one always used to update things.
September 25th, 2009 at 7:31 pm
probably missing the quotes….
try cd(ing) to the correct directory first,
see one of the above reply’s for more info
September 25th, 2009 at 7:31 pm
I think some of you guys are unzipping the files you’re downloading. I did this by accident my first try. DO NOT unzip the file, just rename the zipped files extension to a .ipcc then you should be able to see it.
September 25th, 2009 at 7:32 pm
I eventually got 9.0.1.8 to load ipcc
September 25th, 2009 at 7:33 pm
I have Itunes 8.2 it lets u look for ipcc
September 25th, 2009 at 7:34 pm
use iTunes 8.x, carrier v5, tethering stays
September 25th, 2009 at 7:34 pm
Nice dude…worked like a charm thanks!
September 25th, 2009 at 7:38 pm
I have a PC and i got it all working. If you are copy/pasting the command line in there, it will not work. The website uses ASCII quotations which are not recognized in Command Prompt. I have iPhoneOS 3.0.1 and iTunes 9.0.1…
I had some trouble at first getting an “unknown error” but that was due to a “Carrier Logo” I had installed from Cydia. I removed that (per gonzalez finding), and whala…it worked like a charm.
September 25th, 2009 at 7:42 pm
Has anyone found anything besides carrier logos that have caused the 0xE800003D error code? I just can’t figure this out.
Don’t want to remove everything from my phone and start over. At that point, I might as well of just restored my phone 3 and a half hours ago…
September 25th, 2009 at 7:43 pm
Did you reboot your iPhone after uninstalling the Carrier Logo?
September 25th, 2009 at 7:43 pm
I didnt even think about someone doing that. That makes a lot of sense why other people arent able to find it. Lol. Silly people
September 25th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
In that case, Install “AptBackup” (there is a T in there) and backup your cydia apps. Restore your phone back to original settings from DFU mode (clearing the iPhone completely of any garbage). Then do the upgrade, then sync all of you other apps and reJailbreak your phone. Reinstall AptBackup (again, there is a T in there) and restore all of your Cydia Apps. That should work. That way you dont have any conflicting applications installed.
September 25th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
I got iTunes 9.1 to work on my 3Gs, 3.0.1, jailbroken phone but it would only recognize 5.5 and not 5.0 for some reason…Still working to get 5.0 to work…
September 25th, 2009 at 7:52 pm
I have used AptBackup in the past. It doesn’t works right for me, must be some of the apps I have. It used to work when I first jailbroke, but as I added more cydia apps eventually it got to a point that I would be resetting my phone and trying to restore with AptBackup repetitively for hours (like 7 or 8 times), failing every time, and coming to the conclusion that it is faster to just reinstall everything one at a time.
September 25th, 2009 at 7:52 pm
I have the same exact phone and software that you have but csnlt mine to work…any ideas???
September 25th, 2009 at 7:53 pm
I have read of that happening from many mac users. Apparently the file automatically is being relabeled as a .zip or something.
September 25th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
Installed 5.0 carrier file (iTunes 9.0 recognized the file just fine, BTW) and no ATT logo issue, but MMS still doesn’t work even after resetting network and re-entering info, shutting down, doing the hokey-pokey…
and that AIN’T what it’s all about, apparently! Help, please?!
MacBook Pro, SnowLeopard. JB iPhone 3.0, Aries…
September 25th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
Yes I reboot my phone.
September 25th, 2009 at 7:55 pm
Sorry I have iTunes 9.0.1.8, my mistake but I downloaded 5.0 from a different website and it worked fine, the only difference I could see was that the first 5.0 file I downloaded was only 12.7kb and the new one I downloaded from rapidshare was 56.7kb…hopefully this will help everyone out…
September 25th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
Safari doesnt let you download .ipcc or .ipsw files, so that author named it as a .zip – this is Apples way of “stopping” jailbreaking from being so easy to everyone.
September 25th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
read above…hope this helps u
September 25th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
Oh, that would suck….it worked for me! I have about 9-10 applications installed from Cydia. I’d give it a go
September 25th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
After you go into cmd and enter:
cd C:\Program Files\iTunes (enter)
iTunes.exe /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1 (enter)
Then open iTunes and sync your phone
Go to the “Info” window for your phone and while pressing “shift” click the Upgrade button…A new window will open and on the bottom right you will see file extensions for ipsw…click that and select ipcc. instead and hit open, a window should open and say Updating Carrier…Then rebbot your iPhone and WOOHOOO…
September 25th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
Make sure the 5.0 file you downloaded is 56.7kb and NOT 12.7kb…
September 25th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
im so mad, i updated the carrier settings on 3 other phones one one 3.0.1 and the other 2 on 3.0 and they are able to send mms, and me that im on 3.1 im not able to send mms and all 4 phones are 3g iphones
September 25th, 2009 at 8:51 pm

September 25th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
uh I didn’t use Quotations..
September 25th, 2009 at 9:02 pm
if ur on 64 bit os u must type
“C:\Program Files (x64)\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
September 25th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
I’m on windows vista 32 bit with iTunes 9.0.1 and a 3g iPhone running 3.0.1 fw, jailbroken.make sure you have itunes closed first. at the command promt I typed cd c:\program files
then enter uppercase dose not matter
type cd itunes then enter
itunes.exe /setprefint carrier-testing 1
then start itunes shift update and it will let you change from ipsw to ipcc
I used the 5.0 ipcc
updated after restarting works like a charm
September 25th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
OK, I finally got it to work! I went to my AT&T acct online, and noticed that I had 1500 “text messages” package. So I tried to put the 1500 “iPhone messages” but didn’t let me, gave me some error, so I switched to my old Samsung cell, waited for AT&T to detect it, then switched it, and it now works on both!
September 25th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
This how you should do it:
1. in windows open cmd program
2. type “cd c:\Program Files\iTunes” without the “” then press enter
3. type “iTunes.exe /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1″ without the “” then press enter
You should be able to select the .ipcc file now
It did worked! but i noticed that my tethering does not work anymore. It doesnt show up anymore. I want my tethering back now.
September 25th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
UPDATE: @impala thanks for letting us know that in order to get thethering back you need to reset the network settings
September 25th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
Try 5.0 carrier, I had an old 5.0, updated to this 5.0 that now shows “cellular data network” settings, and still has tethering. I’m not sure if u can downgrade though, try it.
September 25th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
After updating to that file and restarting you must goto “cellular data network” (Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network)
.. after updating i dont have these options.. i go to general> network
and my choices are:
enable 3g (boolean)
data roaming (boolean)
VPN
Wi-Fi
..? am i missing something
September 25th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
OOH yeah,. i tested MMS (sending to myself) and it worked fine.. i havnt tried sending to anyone else yet, it is 2:20 am.
September 25th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
For those how not work, calm down YOU are doing something wrong.
I read it an in 5 minutes since I load this website I was sending and receiving my first MMSs

I’m on 4.0 carrier with AT&T iPhone plan and 3gs, my MMS has been working for a mounth!
September 26th, 2009 at 1:21 am
for anyone that is having problems.
IT’S THE LITTER i(eye) NOT L (ell)in “setPrefInt”
I feel like a moron, I just wasted like 30min trying to figure out why it wasn’t working for me.
Info:
iPhone 3GS 32GB; Windows XP; had 9.1 (didn’t work), downgraded to 9.0
hope that helps
September 26th, 2009 at 4:55 am
Ok, so this is how i got it to work for me.
First, I have a 16gb 3gs v3.0.1, unlocked and jailbroken. My computer os is vista 64.
So I downgraded iTunes to 8.2. I then hit the start button, typed in cmd and hit enter.
then this is exactly what it typed:
cd c:\program files (x86), then i hit enter
*note* – i did not have an (x64) for my program file. hence the (x86), check your c-drive to see where your itunes.exe file is located.
then i typed:
cd itunes, and hit enter again
lastly i typed:
itunes.exe /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
i then hit enter.
*note* – i typed everything lowercase except the P and the I.
i connected my iphone to my computer and then opened itunes.
once i tunes recognized my phone i then held down the shift key and clicked “update”
after it updated i shut down and restarted my iphone. I then went into settings > messages and had to turn on mms messaging for the 5.5 update. i then went and opened up the message app and created a new message. you should now have a camera icon to the left side of your typing area.
hope this helps all the vista people.
September 26th, 2009 at 6:40 am
why use 5.0 when 5.1 is better
September 26th, 2009 at 8:25 am
I used the ATT US.ipcc (5 not 5.5) and then went to help.benm.at and re enables tethering. not both mms and tethering work just fine. thanks a ton guys!
September 26th, 2009 at 8:55 am
You can go back and forth all you want. I’ve done it.
September 26th, 2009 at 8:55 am
The real tethering (using the built in iPhone screens for it) hack still works.
September 26th, 2009 at 8:57 am
I have the old baseband and mine works just fine.
September 26th, 2009 at 8:57 am
Just follow the instructions above. Yes it works.
September 26th, 2009 at 8:59 am
This process works perfectly fine for me. Maybe you just aren’t reading and following the directions?
September 26th, 2009 at 9:00 am
Why not just get on the latest version of itunes? It works perfectly fine and it works with jailbroken phones.
September 26th, 2009 at 10:12 am
Yeah this was said about 15 times already…and you were still having the problem…maybe you didnt read all of the posts.

works!!
September 26th, 2009 at 11:37 am
I agree, I’ve been using MMS for a week with carrier 5.1. Tethering and visual voicemail still work, with no need to edit network settings. Link to .ipcc with carrier 5.1:
http://cdn.krillr.com/iphonetuts/3.1mms/ATT_US.ipcc
It’s hosted by Aaron Krill at his blog. If anyone is still having trouble I would read his post from Sep. 10:

September 26th, 2009 at 12:28 pm
i have the same error on my 3GS 3.0.1 but it work on my 3G 3.0.1 without any problem……if you want the 5.5 send me your email and i’ll send it to you, by the way i tried the 5.5 and i still get the seme error OxE800003D
September 26th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
How do you downgrade from iTunes 9 to a previous version?
September 26th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
I Followed the advance instructions for the 5.0 ipcc w/ my 3.0.1 3g. Everything went fine but sending mms fails during sending. I double checked the network settings and restarted several times. I don’t have any carrier logo installed either. I’m not sure what to do, any suggestions????
September 26th, 2009 at 1:39 pm
i found out today by talking to at&t that a lot of phones were locked out of mms, this will me fixed automatically but you can just call them and they’ll do it for you, mine is working perfectly now
September 26th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
Download the file with Firefox. iTunes will then be able to see it.
September 26th, 2009 at 2:53 pm
have 3G / 3.01 / ben’s tethering / NOT JB..
just followed your directions.. took 3 minutes total..now have MMS / tethering and still have 3.01!
THANKS!!
September 26th, 2009 at 3:43 pm
ok everything went good for me, except when its time to send a message. I load it up and hit send, then the status bar gets to the end and stalls out, and message is not sent.. anybody else have this problem? I try it on edge and wifi dont matter.
September 26th, 2009 at 4:13 pm
I’ve also been getting the hanging sending status bar. I have a feeling it has more to do with AT&T getting overloaded with MMS messages than it has to do with the procedure. Although, I did use the 5.0 carrier settings so I could keep tethering with PDAnet. Would PDAnet still work with the 5.5 carrier settings? Or is the hanging MMS status having to do with it being on 5.0 vs. 5.5? Mysteries abound…
September 26th, 2009 at 4:46 pm
Try typing it in. don’t cut and paste
September 26th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
I’ve read other people stating that PDAnet still works, but the official tethering does not. Personally, I’d rather keep the official tethering because it is 1.) free and, 2.) seems to work better for me, but it you paid for PDAnet then just go with 5.5. Just check their site to make sure there are no problems. Good luck!
September 26th, 2009 at 5:00 pm
Same here… This is killing me! I really want mms, but I can’t give up tethering. Maybe, it is something on att’s end?
September 26th, 2009 at 6:56 pm
You guys just totally ROCK!
Thanks for making my 3.01 3gs do it all, and still remain jailbroken!!!! MMS works like a charm with the 5.0 installed as recommended!!!!
Thanks Again!
September 26th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
PDAnet for iPhone is free, so it’s not like that’s a big deal for me. Curiously, I just updated my friend’s 3G to 5.0 (she also uses PDAnet) and MMS works perfectly for it. Strange thing, when I send an MMS from her 3G to my 2G, I still get the website link to view it. I wonder if it just takes time for it to realize there’s a 2G phone accepting MMS? No point in enabling it on a 2G if you can’t receive them properly. (Still getting the hanging send bar on my 2G, btw.)
September 26th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
I have a 3GS JB on 3.0.1 and I had the 5.0 ipcc installed and MMS was working perfectly as well as the tethering. The only problem that I was having out of 5.0 was my visual voicemail wasn’t working. I installed the 6.0 ipcc file tonight to my phone and it is all working great! MMS still works just fine tethering is still free and great and my visual voicemail is back and works fantastic!
September 26th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
for people who can’t see the ipcc file and have done the dos command (remember after you press enter nothing seems to happen. it’ll just go to c:\)
make sure the browse is looking for ipcc files and not ipsw. At the bottom there’s a dropdown box to change it.
September 27th, 2009 at 12:12 am
When I couldn’t see the ipcc files I broke the cmd into blocks. cd programs,cd itunes, itunes.exe /setPreflnt carrier-testing 1. I also updated my itunes to 9.01. Idon’t think I need to update if I had done the cmds as I listed. I had been trying all day just putting it straight in windows7

After I updated my iphone w/3.0.1 using the 5.0 carrier I got everything to work however I noticed after about 10 minutes the tethering option in settings just disappeared. Anyone have anything on this?

September 27th, 2009 at 3:53 pm
I have the same problem. Running iTunes 9.0.0.7. D/L’d ATT_US-5.5.ipcc with Firefox. Drop-down only allows .ispw
September 27th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
it was the “I” vs “L” in “setPrefInt”… the font i use to display this page made it look like an “L”.. why he used mixed case in the command, who knows?
September 27th, 2009 at 8:43 pm
Hi,
I followed the instructions exactly and when I try to send a mms text, I get an error. Also, I still cannot receive either. Currently running os 3.0 and it is jailbroken. oh and i DONT have a data plan. i’m wondering if that would be the reason. please help.
September 27th, 2009 at 11:12 pm

September 28th, 2009 at 3:18 am
If you are using 64 bit Windows, the command you need to type is “C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
Hope this helps.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:21 am
I don’t know if anyone else is having this, I read about halfway down, and can’t find anything. I have a 3GS running JB 3.0.1, with IPCC 5.0 (did advanced settings) and have no camera icon on my phone. Everything was done to the “t”, and was done on both a PC and a virtual Mac. I don’t know what is going on here, I’m discombobulated, and I’d like my MMS now. Herp?
September 28th, 2009 at 3:22 am
This has nt worked for me. I have used both AT&T carriers that the site has available, and neither config worked.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:24 am
It is in C: Just type the command as it is written. You’re fine.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:25 am
Does anyone have confirmation on this?
September 28th, 2009 at 3:29 am
UPDATE: Installed, instructions followed, still no camera icon. This is upsetting.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:42 am
OMFG! I love you! YOU ARE AMAZING! To all 3GS users, I have been updating IPCC files all day, trying to get this to work, and it never did. One crucial step I missed was one that this man did. Make sure you go to Settings -> Messages, and enable MMS messages. THANK YOU!
September 28th, 2009 at 3:52 am
EDIT: I got it working, seems you have to actually go to Settings -> Messages and Enable the MMS Messaging on the 3GS. Thanks to above who posted a rather lengthy expose on this. LOL
September 28th, 2009 at 7:27 am
I tried everything to the “T” and used Itunes 8.2 and 9.0 and when I tried to update (Shift plus Update) i could not see see the IPCC files just the ipsw. Please advise
September 28th, 2009 at 7:36 am
I’m an avid reader to this site but I haven’t seen where I can JB a 3.1 iphone with 5.11.07 firmware using a windows computer. Downgrading works only so far and it creates more problems. Did I miss the steps to JB this thing?
September 28th, 2009 at 8:30 am
Did u try going to the link that I wrote last night. I wish I could it prove to u that works I have a 3Gs, 3.0.1 firmware everything is fine
September 28th, 2009 at 9:42 am
I also tried your suggested link help.benm.at/help.php
and it did not work. I am on 3GS JB with 3.01
September 28th, 2009 at 11:29 am
I love how ATT tells you that you now have MMS included in your account for the iPhone, but NEGLECTS to tell you that each time you send an MMS message with an attachment of any kind, they charge you for TWO messages, not just one! ATT is determined to squeeze their end users for every nickel and dime, one way or another! What SleazeBalls! BE Aware, those of you that don’t have unlimited text plans!!!
September 28th, 2009 at 12:38 pm
If your pics aren’t sending, don’t think it’s because of using 5.0 and not 5.5. I installed 5.5 and it errors out towards the end of “sending”. I guess it’s just because AT&T sucks.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
Same 0xE800003D error here on 3.0.1 on a 3Gs. I’ve removed the BigBoss AT&T Carrier Logo and still get the error.
I’d re jailbreak but, I can’t restore in DFU to 3.0.1.
Any ideas as to what else could be the cause of this error?
September 28th, 2009 at 5:24 pm
Hi, I see you did a lot of posts about your way of putting in MMS and I want to thank you for that becuase that is what I used. I do want to say that I havent had to change any settings in the (Settings – General – Network -Cellular Data Network) becuase everything works just fine after just doing the update to get MMS working on my 3.0.0 Firmware iPhone 3GS.. I would like to ask though.. I have found now that my Call Forwarding doesnt work. You can go the the settings and hit Call Forwarding On then it takes you to the phone dial pad to input a number then once you do that you hit the back to CallForwarding and it processes and auto matically turnes if off again and it just keeps doing that everytime you do this. I called Apple and they said they didnt know and I called AT&T and they reset my all my settings and their settings and still the same thing. They told me to restore but I wanted to ask you guys about it first since EVERYTHING is working but that.. Can you give me any input or at least post this and let me know..
September 28th, 2009 at 7:14 pm

If anyone here have problems with Windows 7 64 bit.
Here is the command line you need to follow
cd C:\program files (x86)\itunes ENTER THEN FOLLOW THE REST OF THE COMMANDLINE
“iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1″. It took me 2 days to figure it out. work with iTunes 9.0.18
October 1st, 2009 at 12:31 am
You have to actually “reboot” your iphone instead of just respring the baseband.
October 1st, 2009 at 4:22 am
sorry 2g cant do MMS ever man only 3g and 3gs phones
October 1st, 2009 at 7:58 am
I’m using iTunes 9.0.1.8
a Jailbroken 3.0.1 3GS
I’ve used the official .ipcc, the 5.0, and a custom ‘Stealth’ version that is just 5.0 with the correct settings (i think)… nothing works
I have followed all of the steps exactly, and I constantly get a red exclamation point when trying to send MMS. Normal text works and I spoke with ATT and Apple about it and they were unable to do anything…
any ideas?
October 1st, 2009 at 8:21 am
you dont have to use custom version. just update 5.5 and you’re good to go…im on 3GS JB 3.0.1 using the latest itunes. mms and tether works great!

October 2nd, 2009 at 1:17 pm
sweet. took less than five minutes. using 3.0, vista, itunes 9, 5.5
October 2nd, 2009 at 2:39 pm
Attention If you at any time had an iPhone 2G, you must speak with AT&T’s technical support, not business care. Make sure they ask for the last four digits of the IMEI and ICCID numbers. I have found that if your message sending is failing it is likely that your account has a reference to the 2g and it is killing your mms. Make sure they check those numbers, because they can’t just look for references to 2G. And make sure they don’t send you to Apple technical support. I did this and went through three techs and finally had one that found the mismatch. Be patient yet forcefull… Good luck!
October 3rd, 2009 at 8:13 am
Settings -> General -> Reset on iPhone, and tap Reset Network Settings. The iPhone will reboot. After the restart, MMS, VVM and tethering should be working fine again.
Alternatively, go to Settings -> General -> Network -> Cellular Data Network, and set the APN for Visual Voicemail to acds.voicemail. However, doing so will disable Tether and the option to tether will disappear.
October 3rd, 2009 at 6:50 pm
So everythings working fine for me, but i’m having ONE problem, ever since i enabled MMS through this hack (using the 5.0 carrier settings file) i cannot send a group SMS. Whenever i attempt to select more than one recipient in a new message being composed, it changes the message from being a new text message to being a “Group MMS.” I don’t know why it’s doing this, but if i compose a message, no matter what the content, my iPhone insists on using an MMS template for any message with more than one recipient…..is anyone else seeing this? iPhone 3g jailbroken on 3.0.1 fw, and the 5.0 carrier settings file with the above hack (and tethering hack enabled).
HELP! my friends get mad when i send them an MMS for no reason…

Okay, I got it to work also…. 2 hours ( I know I am a NERD)
for those not getting the IPCC to show up:
the extension is C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefint carrier-testing 1 (not the letter next to the f in setPrefint it the letter “i” not L. That allows you to find the IPCC.
The above file path may not be where you installed itunes, that is the file path to put in. outside of the above I followed and got all of this to work.
OHHH YEA Close Itunes and UNPLUG your Iphone while doing the above steps. Make sure all itunes files are closed (CTRL+ALT+DELETE) and look in Proccess. I hope this helps!

So…
If you have 3.0.1 and not JB your phone, don’t follow these instructions for the MMS update.
The files are signed for the Carrier Update, and AT&T shut down anyone without a signed update.
I had to update to 3.1 and just get the signed update as 3.0.1 with a bunk Carrier update (5.0 or 5.5) seems to not let MMS work, regardless of the settings in network or whatnot, it’s not seeming to send Pic mail.
I said “F”-it, and just updated to 3.1 (I’m sure the dev team will let me JB sometime, they are smart) and got the signed carrier update, and boom, my MMS works.
If there is a way to get the signed Carrier Update and all, with 3.0.1, and then drop it into the phone, then it’d work I bet.
I have 3gs. 3.1(now) and it’s not JB.

I don’t believe carrier files are “signed.” Only firmware files are signed, and it’s done by Apple to try and prevent jailbreaking, not by ATT. Something else must have gone wrong in your attempt to use the method above, as i believe i have the same specs as you and was successfully able to push the carrier update to my phone using the above method.

I honestly thought I had it all right, and sent SEVERAL messages with the NON-JB 3gs, with 3.0.1, and then used several of the carrier-files out there 5.0, 5.5, and attempted to configure in many ways, but alas, about 3 days after the update, my MMS stopped sending, not receiving. I rebooted and did it all. Maybe it’s not signed, but it didn’t work for me, once I upgraded (3.1 and the carrier file direct from itunes) it all worked very quickly.
another few cents for the fixings… I just want to jb this effer so bad…. dev-team got the power like he-man.
