This news is a few days old, but there is an important message in it so I thought I would post something on it anyway. The dev team is planning to release their 3g unlock on New Years Even 2008. So if you are interested in unlocking your 3g, you must make sure you do not update to FW v2.2 in iTunes. If you do, you will have a newer baseband and cannot use the new unlock. It is safe to update to 2.2 using pwnage on the MAC (not quickpwn as that requires iTunes restore to 2.2 first) or xpwn. Xpwn is a more complicated method that uses command prompts but will work on a PC. Or, you can just stay at 2.1.

3G Unlock
We have been working hard on a few other things. The main one being the 3G unlock codenamed “yellowsn0w”. This is now completed and is currently being packaged into a user-friendly application with the simplicity that you see in QuickPwn or BootNeuter.
- The target release date for the unlock is New Year’s Eve 2008.
- This unlock method is available to iPhone 3Gs that have 2.11.07 (FW 2.0 – 2.1) baseband or earlier, we did warn you.
- You can tell what version baseband you have by going to Settings->General->About->Modem Firmware
- The unlock requires a jailbroken 3G iPhone. It’ll be installable via Cydia and so it doesn’t matter if you have a Mac or PC.
- Please refrain from updating your baseband, regardless of what version you’re at. We’ll have complete directions on New Year’s Eve.
- We’ll stream a live demo of the unlock before Christmas (see the update at the end of this post)

Question. If an ATT 3G phone from the US is unlocked and then used in a Country like Brazil with different 3G frequencies, will the phone use those frequencies and operate at 3G?? I understand the hardware for both sets are built in the phone. Thanks

Nice. I personally have a 2G, but a few people I know have the new one, and have been quite pissed at the rates they’re having to pay for the plans here in India. Outrageous, what with there being no subsidy on the phones either. . .

Bigboss plz help..i dnt know wheres MK hes the who help me jailbreak my 3Giphone 2.1…my question is now that i restore my iphone trough itunes then update to 2.2 can i still jailbreak it again?wtf is “SOFT UNLOCK” do i really need it?what does it do…i just want my theme..but at the same i want my iphone works like normal iphone…
