SBSettings v0.91 Released

Author: BigBoss  //  Category: Apps

Thank you all that tested SBSettings.  I put v0.91 beta into Cydia.  We will continue to fix issues and expand the app over the next week. Enjoy it and thank you all that tested it.

Note: Fixed a bug in libhide that made it so you couldnt unhide hidden apps. Make sure you install the libhide update that gets pushed down in cydia updates.

If you get a dependency error in Cydia on sbsettingtoggles, just uninstall sbsettings, uninstall sbsettingtoggles, and reinstall SBSettings from scratch and it should work. I’m not sure what is causing this error, but I redid the sbsettings package from the 0.90 beta because I didn’t like the way it would upgrade (thought it may be problematic).

If you see no toggles at all, somehow the SBSettingToggles package did not get installed. Like above, uninstall sbsettings, sbsettingtoggles. And then reinstall sbsettings.

Coming soon:

* Ability to make your own toggles like BossPrefs.
* Minor fixes for some of the known issues (see changelog link).
* Much more beefed up “more” app.

Known issues:

* The icons are refreshed only on respring. It is possible for them to get out of sync. This is by design because it is a significant performance drain to constantly refresh these things. But you may have to occasionally press the refresh button if you believe the states are incorrect.
* The SSH toggle is very slow after the iPhone has sat idle for a bit. It does work just be patient.
* The “add your own toggle” is not yet designed. Be patient.
* There are times where the iPhone is very low on memory and bringing up the window is not very helpful. Example is maps app while its locating you or some cases inside safari.
* The SSH and “more” button are implemented by launching apps. Therefore, they will only work if you have no other app running and are at the main springboard screen.
* Respring option while locked brings you to springboard bypassing your passcode.

  1. OMEGA_RAZER Says:

sweet, keep up the great work :)

  2. Ingo Says:

    Hi,

tried to install through Cydia and getting “1 Broken Packages. The following packages have unmet dependencies: SBSettings” error. Any idea?

  3. dieburnbot Says:

Looks really nice. I saw it on Cydia. Not sure I want to install it just yet though. I think I’ll wait for final. Just wanted to tell you to keep up the good work.

  4. spam_artist Says:

i just installed it off of cydia, but nothing showed up? No new icon, nothing, when i go to poof, i do see sbsetting, display as on, yet i see nothing…?

  5. jhay Says:

help i always get this error when i trying to install this
“NetDB: iphonebigboss5.com nodename nor servname provided, or not known”

  6. Dimz Says:

    ” Instructions for use:

    - Slide across statusbar to show the window. (Tap once with two fingers seems to work also) Tap the close button to dismiss the window.

    - The big buttons are toggles. Red is “OFF” Green is “ON”.

    - The “more” button brings up the settings app which lets you configure which settings you want available, hide icons, and other bossprefs like things.

    - The “refresh” button will refresh the state of the icons in case it gets out of sync. ”

So just slide your finger on the status bar, meaning slide your finger on your ihpone screen where it shows the signal, battery, wifi….

i had the same problem until i read BB post of yesteday :)

  7. BigBoss Says:

It’s installing fine. It’s had several hundred installs already. NetDB: is a networking issue maybe the host was down or your network was not working for a bit.

Igno: try refreshing your sources. If you still get that error try it with apt-get update. It does not have unmet dependencies or it couldn’t be installed by anyone. So we need to know what unmet dependency you are having.

  8. Dimz Says:

woohhoooooooo i love it!!!! it’s sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeettt sweeeeeeett :) thanks BB!!!!! i just removed BossPrefs and will stay on SBSettings!!!

  9. adam Says:

i aam uising an iphone 3g in the uk with cydia.

when i open cydia i dont see this package there?

isn’t this in one of the pre-installed sources?

if not what source do i need to install?

  10. RpR Says:

Got the exact same problem here Ingo. Back to 0.90 for me.

  11. Kookoo Says:

    Awesome, removing bossprefs…
    Thank you

  12. RpR Says:

Fixed it, apparantly a problem with having 0.9 installed earlier. Remove 0.9 and libhide from Cydia.
    Then from SSH type:
    apt-get install libhide
    apt-get install sbsettings

Fire up bossprefs and hit “fast respring”.

  13. BigBoss Says:

It’s in my source. It comes with all known installers. Nothing to add.

  14. jrentzke Says:

Hi bigboss. v0.90b installed & worked fine for me.
v0.91b does not want to install from cydia (dependency error). When I download the file & try and install it, I get this:
    iPhone-3G:/tmp root# dpkg -i sbsettings_0.91b.deb
(Reading database … 9389 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace sbsettings 0.90b (using sbsettings_0.91b.deb) …
    Unpacking replacement sbsettings …
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of sbsettings:
    sbsettings depends on sbsettingstoggles; however:
    Package sbsettingstoggles is not installed.
    dpkg: error processing sbsettings (–install):
    dependency problems – leaving unconfigured
    Errors were encountered while processing:
    sbsettings
    iPhone-3G:/tmp root#

EDIT: strange, after trying the above, I went back into cydia and it showed that v0.91b was installed. I did a re-install & it went through fine

  15. jhay Says:

thanks BB i’m using it right now…cool!..hehe

  16. Duluen Says:

    Simply awsome!

  17. BigBoss Says:

Thank you. I’ll update the post with this information.

  18. jhay Says:

i have a problem may wifi address has changed, now i can’t connect to winscp..

  19. Radestock Says:

Just installed and had my 2G on 2.1 boot into ‘safe mode’.

Tried the ssh toggle to see if it worked, had a quick look in ‘more’ then tried a respring. Backlight went off completely whilst showing a ‘safe mode’ description, came back on once dismiss was pressed. Was fine after a reboot.

  20. jhay Says:

i can now connect to winscp after reinstalling the SSH,, but my wifi address changed..

  21. Arsenal Says:

Ok this is awesome.. Goodbye to WifiToggle, SwapBT and just leaving 3G on because Bossprefs took too long and the default menu was too fiddly.

Thank you so much for this!!

  22. jrentzke Says:

Ok, now how do I go about adding the auto-correct toggle please?

Also, does the RESPRING in this app do the same as the bossprefs FAST RESPRING?

  23. BigBoss Says:

The custom toggles isn’t ready yet. But it’s coming soon. The respring is the same as bossprefs fast respring (it also rebuilds cache on 2.1).

  24. chromeluv Says:

I am still on the NO GO list for this app, same as the beta release, here is what has happened:

    1) After I found out 0.91 was released and LIBHIDE had been updated, I updated LIBHIDE first and resprung.

1a) I double checked mobile substrate and it is up to date and working

    2)I removed SBSettings v0.09, resprung.

3)I then tried to install SBSettings in Cydia, and I recieved an ERROR from cyida, the same as a couple users above, saying there is a “Broken Package” and “unmet dependancies”.

4)I then SSHd into my phone, removed libhide and resprung.

    5) I then CD into root/, and tried to manually installed via “apt-get install libhide” and
    “apt-get install sbsettings”.

Libhide loaded fine, but when I try to install SBSettings through APT the following happens:

It gets down to the line that states “After unpacking 548kB of additional disc space will be used.”

And the WINCP gives me the error telling me, “Host has not answered after 15 seconds, Aborting this operation will close this connection”

I wait for a couple of minutes, and no response and I close.

I try to get SBS up on the ipHone after that, and no luck.

    Hopefully this helps BigBoss

  25. Awayze Says:

This has to be the best add on to Springboard along with QG!
    Keep up the good work!

  26. jrentzke Says:

    Thanks for that, great news.

btw. do u ever sleep? lol

  27. adf Says:

    nice good job bb
Perfect I only need safari dl toogle :))

  28. rvn88 Says:

SSH toggle won’t work. any help?

  29. Peter Says:

    Hiya BigBoss,
Would LOVE to have a toggle for Insomnia! I have Insomnia on 100% of the time now, as otherwise the phone stops syncing my email once it sleeps (the one single drawback of Firmware 2.1). So it’d be great to be able to check on it basically from the lockscreen! :)

Thanks, it’s working like a charm so far!

  30. Ada Says:

great program- but one issue. I can’t seem to get edge to go on or off. Bossprefs work but this doesn’t. With fi and phone toggle work great. Anyone else having problems with edge toggle? BB thanks for all your hard work!

  31. ErMasLoko Says:

Ada, i have the same problem with EDGE toggle.

In bossprefs works great, but in SBsettings don’t work :( The icon appears in RED but the EDGE it’s on

    Can you fix this BigBoss?

Apart from this, is a awesome program, I like it more than the previous one. Good work!!

  32. Noobie Says:

In Bossprefs, I used to select POWER then reboot. How do I perform a REBOOT with SBSettings? P.S. Thanks again for your hard work on this very useful app!

  33. Rajiv Says:

    Hey:

Do I install this OVER BossPrefs in Cydia, or should I uninstall BossPrefs first?

    Thanks,
    Rajiv

  34. bobbydigital Says:

BigBoss you are the man, keep up the good work!!!!!

i love the app no problems so far, but would like to mention some thing that maybe you can fix.

although you can swipe while in any app, you can only get the setting while on the home screen, is it possible you can make the setting feature work while using other apps, rather then having to go back to home screen.
    thank

just wanna say this is awsome and keep up the work

  35. Dan Says:

    Hey,
Great app! Respring option put me in safe mode.

  36. jgonzalez31 Says:

awesome again bigboss, i like the the fact the new phone toggle just turns off your service not your wi-fi too like airplane mode

  37. jgonzalez31 Says:

it works for me when i swipe in other apps, check again, i just tried it on my ipod app and it worked

  38. jgonzalez31 Says:

    it doesnt have reboot yet

  39. jgonzalez31 Says:

check if your connected in the same network as your pc, or do an adhoc mode and you can use winscp

  40. jgonzalez31 Says:

usually the host has not answered after 15 seconds happens when your phone locks itself, so make sure you take the auto lock off first then try it

  41. Innovative1 Says:

How do I make a toggle? I need to find the api that is called for the VPN toggle?

  42. Alen Says:

    Works great for me!
    Thanks BigBoss!

  43. Zurie Says:

Can you make a slider to control brightness so I can adjust it from any application?

  44. dougp Says:

Are we going to see the ability to skin it? That’d be pretty slick to make it match up …

  45. Awayze Says:

My Wifi adress is always changing when I reset the router.
Just type in your IP address shown on your iPhone, when using winscp.

  46. Awayze Says:

    Same here!

  47. chromeluv Says:

roger, autolock was disabled, this happened multiple times…

I’ve probably tried it 3 times this morning to install SBS and all 3 times the same thing..

  48. bobbydigital Says:

it works in other apps, but if you click more to goto settings, that only works when on homescreen or lockscreen not other apps. give it a try and you will see what im talkin about

  49. chromeluv Says:

    BIGBOSS!

I just figured out my problem. Why, I am not sure though.

So I tried to install it via CYDIA one more time, and I got the same error.

SBSettings wasn’t showing up in CYDIA automatically, so I’ve had to search for it manually in CYDIA to install it.

So this time, when I started to type in its name I noticed “SBSToggles” and “SBSettings” were both appearing in the options to download. So I downloaded SBSToggles first, and then tried to SBSettings after that, and it worked!

So for some reason on CYDIA (mine atleast) it wanted the toggles downloaded first then the settings.

I noticed some other people were having this issue above, hopefully this resolves it for you guys.

  50. chromeluv Says:

    Bigboss,
Fixed my problem above, got it installed and its working well. Thanks for the program, awesome!

  51. jdh Says:

can we get the power option menu instead of just a shutdown when pressing the power button!? Where is my restart option! Haha

  52. Rastarr Says:

Absolutely brilliant app, guys. I was able to throw out 2 icons as well (BossPrefs and swapBT)
    You are doing fantastic things!!

  53. DG Says:

Awesome app! Thanks and keep up the great work BB.

Is there anyway to add toggles? I would really like to add an Auto Lock toggle so if you could include that in your next update, that would be awesome.

    Thanks again BB!

  54. HandyRandy Says:

BigBoss, this is a truly smart…fast app. It’s snappier to load than QuickGold! You sir are a pioneer. And you deserve much praise for your generosity. You inspire me.

    My suggestions:
A way to adjust brightness of screen on the fly.
A way to assign desired apps to a quick launch just like you could before with the dock on BossPrefs.
And a “muter” that would turn the sound volume as low as possible and then back to previous state.
An alarm toggle to turn all alarms on or off.
A timer toggle to activate the timer at whatever time it was last set to.
Maybe in the future it could launch an app within itself so that you could be in another app, and launch a seperate app, and then exit right back to the initial app avoiding a relaunch. This could outpace using backgrounder in some situations.
Make the info box show “what’s playing” in the ipod.

The possibilities are endless. This is just what I could pull off the top of my head.

Seriously though, the app is wonderful and installed just fine and I haven’t personally found any bugs. And the swiping is VERY easy and not finnicky.

Remember the brightness adjuster. That would be a very nice addition.

  55. Skol Says:

Please add a VPN Toggle! That would be SO fucking nice!

Also a small Application Launcher would be nice!

  56. ...Me Says:

Thanks much BigBoss, works great but I do have a problem nobody else has mentioned.
    1)Password lock your iPod/iPhone
    2)Use respring option on lockscreen
Congratz, you just bypassed the password lock.
Please add an option to change respring methods to the next release.
    Again, thank you very much.

  57. essarem Says:

absolutely awesome!!! Works like a champ. Looking forward to custom toggles!!!

  58. Joe Says:

I had to reinstall bossprefs because anytime I turned on SSH it refused connection. So I refreshed the SBSettings, and it wasn’t enabled, even though I enable it.

I still need bossprefs to SSH, it sucks, I love this app.

  59. BigBoss Says:

It doesnt have reboot. We do not see a need for the option.

  60. BigBoss Says:

The more button brings up an app. You can only have one app loaded at a time. I am not sure we can ever fix that. We purposely made the more a separate app to not have a bunch of bloat carried around in springboard all the time.

  61. BigBoss Says:

    Just respring again.

  62. BigBoss Says:

The SSH toggle, like the “more” only works when you are at springboard not when you have another app loaded.

  63. dridzz Says:

How about the airplane mode toggle ?

  64. iLauncher Says:

    yeah, me too.
the only thing keeping me back from uninstalling bossprefs is lack of safari download plugin switch and need to sync the toggles’ status, in sbsettings. also, it wud be sweet if u cud had app icons, like in the bossprefs docks. finally, since i have sbsettings already installed/working and when i decide to uninstall bossprefs, will hidden icons get unhidden or will i lose my battery/killswitch settings? awesome job on this app, and keep the updates comin :)

  65. mark Says:

The EDGE toggle does not work. While 3G is already on and I toggle EDGE on it grabs a data IP briefly and then EDGE shuts right off again and loses the IP. I can not use 3G with this program.

    Back to bossprefs for me…

  66. iLauncher Says:

@Innovative1: have u got vpn to work on the iphone?
do u use pptp type of connection coz i can only use that to connect to my office network.
if u can help, plz contact me at yohanirani@hotmail.com
    thanx.

  67. BigBoss Says:

The EDGE toggle shuts off data entirely. You do not toggle EDGE off to use 3G. I have been using 3G with this app as it is one of its best uses. If you are a 3G user, perhaps you should just hide the EDGE toggle as you do not need it and use 3G to toggle between EDGE and 3G.

  68. BigBoss Says:

The Phone toggle replaced it. As my release notes said, if you want full airplane mode, tap phone, then wifi.

  69. BigBoss Says:

    This is coming soon.

  70. mark Says:

I actually toggle EDGE on and 3G on at the same time. Even with EDGE off, and 3G on and a data IP, I still can not use mail or Safari, it can’t connect. If I go to wi-fi all is well.

I had to uninstall sbsettings. I then tried to access 3G from the iPhone Settings panel and could still not get online.

I then reinstalled BossPrefs and was able to get back online via 3G. Yow.

  71. Chase Says:

Along with being able to add more toggles, will you be adding a dock to this? That’s one thing I’ve loved about BossPrefs. I could put all of my iPhone utilities and settings in the dock, rather than having them in a category or on the home screen.

    Great work!

  72. Alen Says:

Can you please add horizontal mode…
    For safari and other…

    Thanks

  73. ErMasLoko Says:

I have iPhone 2G, and EDGE toogle don’t work for me. I reinstall BossPrefs only for this.

Please BB, fix this, SBsettings it’s great!!!

  74. Robert Says:

bigboss i have installed sbsetting without a hitch must i still install sbstoggle?

  75. bobbydigital Says:

ok that makes more since to me now as it being a seperate app. ok thanks for the reply and keep up the great work.

  76. bobbydigital Says:

bb how about a location service toggle in an update

  77. Joshua Says:

Great app!!! I have been waiting on an airplane mode springboard toggle app, but this is 1,000,000 better.

Can I ask if I already nuetered Apple Killswitch via Bossprefs, can I use SBSettings to toggle it? Right now SBSettings says Killswitch is enabled even though I have it disabled. If I push the button, will it be out of sync? Or will it just do it again?

May I politly ask if airplane mode could be an option? I do like having phone toggle, but I use airplane mode all the time.

Thanks again for all you effort!!!

  78. JonM Says:

Installed for the first time. It eats battery life at about 1%/minute! Phone died in under 2 hours. Recharged and dieing again:(
Can’t seem to use Cydia to completely uninstall either, the sbsettingstoggle and libhide are not showing as independent packages.

  79. Noobie Says:

For whatever it’s worth, I thought the reboot option was a very useful and convenient feature. I used it all the time instead of having to press the home button and power on/off button at the same time which I found a little tricky for me. If there’s any chance of adding this power feature back in the future, I would heartily welcome it.

  80. bobbydigital Says:

if you want airplane mode all you have to do is toggle phone and wi-fi and you will have airplane mode

  81. JD Says:

Well that’s total BS, this is based on MobileSubstrate so correct me if i am wrong but it isn’t running in the background on its own, eating battery. As we speak i’ve had it installed for over 4 hours and my battery life is normal, about 80% after a little over 2 hours of ipod usage, some web surfing/email checking and a few Cydia/AppStore installs and updates and about 20 minutes SSH’ing stuff, including a couple reboots (which i always do after installing/updating apps).

Whatever is draining your battery, it isn’t this app, as most people would have complained about it by now (including me, i’d definitely notice if there was a significant battery drain).

  82. asa Says:

    Good Feedback!

  83. Anonymous Says:

Might be the mobile substate then? I can’t use winterboard either because of battery drain. It stops after I uninstall it. I had to manually remove the settings and libhide.
Battery was fine. After an hour and showing 99%, I reinstalled. Battery went to 78% after 20 minutes.

  84. HandyRandy Says:

I think you should install a one-time message explaining these notes along with the non-disappearing EDGE icon. It would really help users and keep you from repeating yourself. I can only imagine how many times you’ve had to explain this.

  85. HandyRandy Says:

see this is another note worth mentioning to everyone one-time within the app. I was a little puzzled by this myself too, but after a few seconds of deducing, I figured by myself, but some people are not as…u know

Most folks dont read release notes. Sure, they’re stupid for not doing so, but a lot of them really don’t. Keep this in mind.

The one-time note/tutorial is a very powerful thing. VERY. Mostly because you can display them at the appropriate moments and people learn and remember better when you teach them while they are simultaneously “hands-on” with said focus of note.

  86. Anonymous Says:

No one has presented me a good case when you ever need to reboot the iPhone. If the device has crashed then a reboot button won’t work. If you want to kill all your apps for faster responsiveness then respring does that. So until I see a value use for reboot I don’t plan to add.

  87. Innovative1 Says:

Yeah, got VPN working great. Took quite a bit of trial and error though. I will hit you up and see if I can help you get it running. It kicks ass to be able to access my entire network via my iPhone. AP needs rebooted….no problem! Just fire up the VPN and 1Password and you are in! :D

  88. HandyRandy Says:

    BigBoss

…if toggling edge turns off 3G as well….then what exactly is the DIFFERENCE beteween the phone toggle and the edge toggle? This feature is appreciated and has a purpose I can see, but aren’t they one and the same?

  89. HandyRandy Says:

In other words I believed the Phone toggle has effectively replaced the EDGE toggle even though it’s literally just a name change. And BTW I think it’s much more accurate to call it a phone toggle anyway since it toggles off all phone features (3G + EDGE).

BUT……….theres only one problem. When I use the phone toggle it actually goes into AIRPLANE MODE (shutting off wireless), meanwhile the wifi toggle innacurately stays green and I must manually turn wifi back on. So if there is no way to avoid shutting off wifi, the the app should automatically REACTIVATE WIFI while at the same time updating the wifi toggle appropriately. Or if this is not possible then u should just stick to the Airplane toggle, eliminate the phone toggle and make sure the wifi is updated and turned red at this time.

And when u toggle the EDGE off, it should update the 3G to RED/off.

I believe the simplest fix would be to forget about the EDGE toggle and rename the phone toggle to airplane toggle, cuz thats what it does. And make the users reenable wifi. But wifi needs to turn red when u do this.

  90. HandyRandy Says:

    I apologize.

The phone Toggle DOES leave WiFi on & untouched!!!!!

BUT….I believe the reason it was acting buggy is because I was in the phone settings menu WHILE I was toggling and checking the results, etc. So I think the toggles are buggy when inside the settings menu of the phone. Because I was able to reproduce the seemingly random responses by going back, but every time i exited it worked correctly.

I’m gonna keep trying to isolate the bug for you. One I know for sure is the wifi status bar symbol disappears when you toggle the phone off when in the settings of the phone. But it reappears when u go home. But it did actually turn wifi off a few times.

  91. JD Says:

No offense, but if you would have simply read part of the instructions, you would know that toggle states don’t change properly unless you are on your home/lock screen, and not while inside any other app.

  92. HandyRandy Says:

It hasnt happened again, so maybe its nothing to worry about. I have tried multiple ways to retrigger it. The only issue is the missing/reappearing wifi symbol in the status bar when cwhen toggling the phone when inside the phone settings, but that may not be fixable. And it reappears when u go home.

But my question still stands. Aren’t the EDGE toggle and the Phone toggle one and the same? The only difference I can see is that the phone toggle is permanent while the EDGE toggle is only temporary and immediately reconnects. Maybe the EDGE toggle is not compatible with the 3G phone, but what purpose would it serve to toggle EDGE on a phone with ONLY EDGE since you already have a phone toggle that does this same thing.

    I have 8gb 3g 2.1 btw

Sorry for babbling, I should’ve just kept this to myself and not wasted your time. Just please explain the purpose of the EDGE toggle. It makes no sense to me what it could be useful for.

  93. Arsenal Says:

Having used it for a while my only request would be that the close button is a little on the small side.. would it be possible to make it a bit bigger, or even make tapping on the status bar or open area in the bottom half of the screen close it?

  94. mindblowerz Says:

Bigboss, you’re the man!!!! I’m going uninstall the individual toggles for all my services… SSH/Wifi/etc.. and use sbsettings instead!

just a couple of minor issues I’ve experienced. No big deal though…

    1. sometimes it takes a few swipes to bring down the menu.. maybe its my phone :P
    2. landscape thingy… others have mentioned it before in this thread. Sbsettings is a little buggy in landscape.. buttons like “Refresh” or “X” were a little hard to activate.

Overall a magnificient job well done! Cheers!

  95. Innovative1 Says:

So to set my VPN up I just went to Settings>General>Network>VPN> …then I set it to PPTP, typed the description, the IP of the server, the username under ‘account’, RSA SecurID off, password entered, Encryption level set to auto, and send all traffic set to on. That does it for me. Hopefully that helps. Then you just have to toggle it on or off from the main Settings screen once it is all setup.

  96. jr Says:

First, thanks so much for your hard work on this app. I don’t know if anyone has suggested this, but I’d love it if the toggles would center themselves when there are fewer than 4 selected (like the dock will do for you). I only need 2-3 toggles, and I find that the close button is awfully close to the leftmost toggle. Additionally, I’d prefer to see the close “x” on the right side for easier one thumb navigation (yes, I’m right-handed… So shoot me). Last thing would be the Location toggle as was mentioned above. Tremendously good job. Thanks again!

    Hi There

I was having the same issue while trying to install SBSettings and when i read this thread i was thinking to implement the solution of installing from SSH… i installed OpenSSH and tried once more to install SBSettings… guess what??!! Voala!!

    Installation worked like a charm!!

    Hope this helps to anyone!
